Post your ideas for ODST 2!

Only the hardcore ODST lovers come here, so it's up to us to turn this thread into a hypothetical compilation of what could have been a sequel to Halo ODST. Let's come up with a plot, some key gameplay elements, modes, etc. and share them here. I'll keep this thread updated and gradually organize it as our design progresses. I'll start by listing some things we can go off of: Story: New Mombassa wasn't fully explored in ODST, so we could say that there were other ODST's in this city that fought in the battle in a different way. We could experience the story from different "Echo Team" who encountered Buck and his squad at some point during fighting in the city. Echo has their own mission to complete within the city. Or we don't even have to do it during this point in the city. The ODST's can drop in before the carrier goes into slip space and help the chief in old mombassa. The ODST's don't even have to be in the city--we can drop them to a completely different battle. Heck, we can even drop them on Reach and have them assist in the battles there. What about Harvest? Though if we drop them there, we lose the urban feeling, which was great and could be expanded on. Gameplay: > The ODST's can now Sprint at all times. > VISR mode now does infrared and thermal modes, in addition to its night vision > You also have a standard flashlight in case VISR is too glaring > Assassinations are possible for ODST's as well (pioneered by Buck!) > You can pick up biofoam like equipment to heal yourself and your teammates later on > Compass comes back off course--anything to add to the detective feeling Features > Fully customizable ODST's > Firefight is back (pretty insane...) with ODST inspired modes > New "Battle Bro" mode for 2 that gives you specific missions to complete > Actual multiplayer mode with various styles of gameplay and tactical combat > OPERATION--Invasion-style gameplay, except ODST's have to complete objectives and elites/brutes have to stop them > Play as Brutes and Elites [Edited on 03.02.2011 10:17 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: Sector Z 157 I had always imagined that if another ODST title were to occur, then it would start off in the Rookie's pod. As the slip space occurs, it shows the rookie concentrate on another pod, and the camera shift to the inside of it. At least, I think that it would be cool. Anyone else wish that they could have played as an ODST in say Halo 2 and fight with the Chief. I loved the moment, such as the intro to Crow's Nest when the marine says "No way, a Spartan?!", "We're gonna be okay". Being one of those soldiers and having hope shine in you eyes makes me smile. Each and every time.
I like the idea of having the story coincide with things that we've already done in previous Halo games. It's such a cool feeling to have a completely different take on something you did as Master Chief. It allows you to maybe find out things that you didn't know before. There are so many possibilities. Like, maybe when the Chief goes through an area where a battle had just raged, maybe that was an intense battle that your ODSTs fought and was a huge part of their story. It doesn't really seem to be anything when you're the Chief, but now knowing the ODSTs story, it's so much more. [Edited on 05.14.2012 6:16 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: BlackAangelO Not really concerning the gameplay itself but I would like it to have some secondary missions. You would stroll somewhere and you receive a message or s'thing that lanches a small mission. It would make the game more live.
I like this idea. Side quests not required for the main story. I think this would enhance the game.

 • I'd like to see for campaign: -ability to place waypoints over enemies you want allies to prioritize on and that will cause them to attack those specific enemies first -most of the time, the AI follow your lead and don't drive/run off without you -firing silenced weapons from long range (4x zoom) will alert enemies but not to your location. Firing silenced weapons from mid range (2x zoom) will alert enemies to your location but not to you unless you keep firing at them. Firing silenced weapons from close range will alert enemies to you -switch between VISR and flashlight -firing your gun from behind cover will cause enemies to patrol -Grunts go back to sleep if there's a lull in battle -more vehicles in addition to ghost and mongoose on hub levels (i.e. Mombassa Streets) -cloaking like in Headhunters -instead of firebomb and spike grenades, I want to use specialized grenades. Or just use the d pad to switch to new grenades -a flare that actually affects enemy behavior -more flamethrowers -jumping Scarabs. They look like they're capable of that. They can already climb and operate underwater. Let's see some aerial operation... -marines to spawn with regular M6C pistols instead of the silenced variant. I can only assume they were given silenced weapons to provide ammo for the player when they die. I think it'd be better if walking over the M6C while wielding the silenced M6C results in a prompt to pick up the ammo or to swap it for the M6C Update: -driving a Scarab or riding on an allied Scarab. Just imagine this -live Covenant Separatist AI appearances -specialized sniper variant that works like the CE sniper since the current one isn't silenced and probably never will be (H4) -Forerunner activity. Anyone heard of the Knowing? [Edited on 05.01.2012 2:21 PM PDT]

 • An ODST 2? Quite intriguing, although I'm not sure if one will be made :( All the ideas posted above are great. I, being the story-lover I am, would personally like the story of Sadie to be elaborated. I really loved this. If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, it is the story that comes with the finding of the Audio Logs throughout the streets.

 •
Posted by: RookieRules I've been thinking. Couldn't the ODST's be more agile? Like they have light-weight armor and they can dodge attacks and enter cover mode and such.
I would think that is the case.

A medic class(heal teammates), an engineer class(fix vehicles), a Sniper class(umm Snipe!), and a Recon class(silenced weapons, a knife, and Recon mode enabled). -Scarabs now appear in Firefight. -A new Objective Firefight, where you and 3 other ODST's have to roam around the city of New Mombasa and rescue civilians. The game ends once everyone is dead, and the game gets harder and harder as you progress. Also, you cannot kill any civilians or the mission will fail.
I like most of these ideas. Maybe sprinting and leaping actions could be incorporated into stamina; sprinting too much lowers stamina. Now, Scarabs as a boss in firefight: have you tried to take on those two Scarabs in The Covenant (Halo 3) on foot? It's hard, but exhilerating. Both at the same time. And memories of four player hot-drops onto two Scarabs at once still make me smile. -Huge firefight/campaign style battlefield with a small AI army. -Hornets for above. I want this game now... :D

 • These are really cool ideas, hope you don't mind if I add!!! CAMPAIGN -More than 1 drop/mission -Maybe in the early war (before the fall of reach?) -Original ODST squad from the Original ODST game -More than the missions: Another mini story (like Sadie's) -Spartans involved? -Connection to Original ODST FIREFIGHT -Drop in before you start -More Vehicles (Falcons, Scorpions) -Online Search for Team -Firefight Matches: Like invasion, only ODST's must survive from endless covenant controlled by others to take down the squad before time runs out. Just like Reach, only you search for the game and get xp from it as well MULTIPLAYER -Choice of Spartans, Marines, or ODST's -Similar game modes from Reach -Aircraft Battles: From flying in space to dog-fighting in the air, these battles mostly in air. Main Goal: Destroy the enemy ship/fleet. Thumbs up? Or two thumbs up?

 • alright loving the sound of the ideas but mine is a little different while i loved the urban feeling of odst my idea takes place while the cheif is on the ark it begins as one of bucks odsts (rookie) are handed a message(cutscene)saying that he is being recruited by an even more elite super team of odst's and marines they want you to be the leader rookie becomes known as lucky shot he is the sniper support for the unit then you begin walking around inside the frigate to talk to the captain you find out that another of the rings have become active so your elite team is sent to deactivate it before the covenant or flood detect it then you and your team get droped in drop pods even marines.(yes i know marines dont do it but it's an odst lead squad so they do)then you find out that the covenant had sent a ship to look for another ring so they found this one and got stranded there even elites still working for the covenant well that's a start any way

 • The emphasis is on the ODSTs being ordinary humans. Exceptional soldiers, but clearly not augmented like the SPARTAN II are. -VISIR night vision, contrast changes in outside daylight time to highlight FOF(Friend Or Foe) tags within 100m in-game. -Limited customization. Armor configuration can be unlocked, colour stripes and camouflage, decals and callsigns can be assigned. -Integrated party and communications suite to the HUD takes place of the audio logs. Xbox Live friends can work together and coordinate, while in single player this is handled through the fictional Battle Net and AI. Easter eggs and a similar backstory like Sadie's present. -Larger scale insertions. ODSTs must secure dropzones in one or more missions for troop transports, and then fight alongside them in an offensive of grand scale. -Clandestine missions, involving direct action, intelligence-denial, assassination, reconnaisance and rescue. Just my $0.02

I mean, what would things like Buck's headset, Dutchs helmet, and Romeo's shoulder plate do? And how would you balance it so your character couldn't just be a spartan without shields?
Hmmmm. Maybe each one should have a debuff - maybe when you have an Armor Permutation that increases melee damage it should reduce movement speed, y'know, because of the added wait.
That kind of defeats the purpose of the way they design armor, at least if we followed the books at all for this. Its supposed to be light, but very protective.

Yeah, you are right, didn't think about that - sorry about the typo...
