Halo 2: The game it should have been (beta).
So I was bored one day, looking up stuff about Halo 2 and the e3 trailer, and suddenly I found a lot of stuff about halo 2 before it came out:
First off, here is the e3 trailer:

Check it out: MLG dudes playing a Halo 2 Beta. Notice the Halo 1 HUD, proof the game was based off the Halo 1 engine. This isn't unusual in game development, did you know that Black Ops is really based off ID tech 3?

EDIT: Turns out, it was a pressed disc given to reviewers, and most ms employees. It worked on normal unmodded xboxes, and was the beta in the other videos below. Of course, there were other betas on Partnernet, but the most common beta (and the one floating around) is the Private beta.

Also, if you bork a softmod on an Xbox 1, you can recover easily if you back up as all files are on the HDD.

And anyone can use game saves to change stuff on an Xbox. In fact, the only thing modified is the gamesave in itself, it would hardly be considered modding. Theres also a difference between downloading something and changing the code and scripts yourself.

All it does is save ammo if need be, but at least with the 3 shot burst you know it takes 4 shots etc. -

It really isn't difficult to softmod an Xbox, I was able to do it years ago with no issues whatsoever. It's a simple matter of AR, load a save game, click on backup Xbox dashboard, install modded dashboard, job done. Honestly, people make it out to be harder than it really is but it is fair enough because the risk is there if you forget to backup the original dashboard. Otherwise...I stand by my statement. As for the Beta, it is good, it's very similar to Halo 2's final MP build with a couple of noticeable differences (weapon handling, hud, vehicles, cut extra's and a secret on waterworks which may surprise you all...) All will be revealed soon when I get round to uploading the comparison between the two. -

My original xbox is very precious to me as well and it's also rare now, but playing the betas really does interest me a lot. I've seen xbox mods where people upgraded the CPU to a faster one and added more RAM to the Xbox. I've thought about modding my Xbox before, but there's always a risk and I don't want to ruin my xbox, even though most of the games I have for it will work on my Xbox 360. I will be uploading a full detailed commentary and comparison of the Halo 2 Beta compared to the final build shortly, within the next 2 weeks at least which should hopefully shed some light on the differences etc. -

I always dreamed Bungie would open their front door one day, and say "Free copies of the Halo 2 Beta for all the good little fanboys and fangirls."
