After 500, the Portal Activities are No Fun

Not sure how to say it in more detail, but having to play Portal activity on Ultimate for decent rewards can be fun when playing with a group on comms with everyone using meta load-outs, but having to play every match-made activity on Ultimate with limited revives usually ends in disaster. I took 4 months off when Edge of Fate released. I did not enjoy the ball mechanic in particular, but decided to come back when Bungie offered the chest of 300 gear. Grinded my way to 500 by the end of last season, and was looking forward to Renegades. When Renegades launched, I played through the campaign and got the light saber. However, being forced into the portal to grind seasonal ranks at 500 light level sucks. Every match-made activity is a sweaty, frustrating experience, and you are more likely to load into a 6 player activity with no lives left on the initial encounter. No way to relax, have fun, and level up your season pass. Hopefully Bungie can address this issue. I guess I’m just going to play the seasonal end-game activities, until I don’t. Being forced to play Portal activities at higher levels just sucks, but I guess I’m a more casual player now and expect fun more than having to prove to Bungie every time I play that I can tolerate their game. I have a job, and I don’t want to feel like I’d just rather go to work than play Destiny 2.

Also agreed. I want people to have their sweats, I do, but I don't really want to sweat. I play video games to chill out and have a fun time, but Ultimate difficulty just isn't that fun for me. Grandmaster was my sweet spot; a fair bit of challenge, but not so much that I felt like I was a liability to my teammates. Last night I did an Ultimate something or other, we kept running out of revives, in the end I was dead and my two teammates had to take on the boss without me. Not saying I would have helped them that much, but it's better than being literal dead weight. I'd be happy to compete at Grandmaster and collect bonus rewards at Tier 4 rather than Tier 5, that seems fair to me. Hell, I'd still be Level Capped, so it's not like being LL510 would be any sort of unfair advantage. It's cool that we have a sweaty mode, really it is! Lots of people love sweat, and I don't want to detract from their game in any way... ...but I am detracting from their game, because any Ultimate activity I participate in sort of feels like I'm making them carry me. I'm a LL450 skilled player with LL510 gear. Maybe Master/Grandmaster/Ultimate should be divided by Guardian Ranks rather than Light Levels. The hardest of the hardcore (GR9+) automatically get shuffled into Ultimate, while the rest of us can be content in GM. If you see me in your group, please accept my preemptive apologies. I'm trying my best!
