At one point in time it kept me playing but then I soon realized I wasn’t having fun so I stopped playing as much. We want to enjoy the game and not be made to feel like it is a chore or a second job to play the game.

Edited by Sturm with no Drang: 5/20/2025 11:40:15 PMI'd argue that it has been going on for so long that most folks are just fed up at this point. I couldn't be bothered to run the raids during the Brave Arsenal event so I did the bare minimum to unlock Super Black and when the latest Guardian Games came around I knew that the rewards would just end up being converted into masterwork/enhancement cores. Unlocked the trace rifle and skipped it in its entirety. At least Heavy Metal had something more than just a dismantleable and offered more substance than the dogwater events we've seen in the past.

I took me longer than I care to admit to realise that nothing in this game is special, if you miss out on anything that is time gated or limited, it will be back or it won't be worth getting anyway. So many times I sunk time into getting something to realise I won't even use it and it will gather dust. Not just weapons, but even titles, triumphs, sparrows, and whatever else. The Rite of the Nine is another perfect example of fomo... 9 weeks and it will go away so get in there and chase the carrot on the stick for hours on end for loot that is obviously perk-weighted STILL.

Edited by STARS-Raven: 5/20/2025 12:10:53 PMBy all metrics available. It doesn't drive people away. Infact its the exact opposite. It drives people to spend more time and money on a particular event. Too many people are driven by the immediate marshmallow.(points to those who understand that reference)

Once you figure out you're not really missing out on anything it becomes much easier.

Edited by Obelix: 5/19/2025 3:11:24 PMFOMO is everywhere these days, That’s why god created the MasterCard, so you can spend money you don’t have on things you don’t need to avoid missing out.

There will come a point when you realise you don't fear missing out anymore. It's usually when you realise the only thing you're missing out on is what other games are willing to offer you by valuing your time.

I don’t understand how FOMO affects adults. I see it having an impact on kids though. I play what I want to play. If there’s a weapon I really want, then I play the activity to grind it. I haven’t finished part two and three of this Episode. I know it’s there and I’ll get done at one point but I don’t feel like I have to. I guess it’s self control and perspective.

Only one that makes you feel like it's a job is yourself. It's a videogame. It's extremely unhealthy to get to the point of feeling like entertainment you choose to engage with is a chore At least you can stop when it's not fun. Keep up the good work.

FOMO is a player problem people create for themselves. You don't need to own or do everything in the game. Play the things you want to play.

[quote]At one point in time it kept me playing but then I soon realized I wasn’t having fun so I stopped playing as much. If you don't enjoy something and fear missing out on something, then that's your own problem.
-
Agreed. FOMO, seasons, and cutesy Fortnight wannabe crap have gone a long way the wrong way for this franchise.
-
FOMO doesn’t even work anymore. The game is so flooded with items that were previously “ fomo “ that it defeats the purpose. The only things that truly go away now are seasonal titles and maybe an emblem or 2. But if you’ve played the game long term you already have so much stuff you can’t even show off or use it becomes pointless to chase. On top of that… if you’re a cosmetic ho then the older more rare stuff will always be of more value than the new stuff. Sunset OG titles etc. I’d say the only true fomo these days are the contest emblems. Those are also declining however because you can only display one at a time and the current contest are such that it’s basically a streamer grind fest more than a community event.

Boredom and time-gating That's what kills it for me.
-
If a video game feels like a chore or a job, dump it.
-
FOMO is a skill issue. If you care enough to have fear about missing something, then you should probably go for it and get it. Same rules apply to real life. Stop trying to blame bungie for one of the only things that's actually in your control lol
-
Well who is forcing you to play?

False. I feel like it sucks me in and gets me to want to play. Like I’m excited to get on and get the exclusive stuff
-
I get the sentiment, but I promise you, the billion dollar company has thoroughly thought out, and invested, in ways to keep people addicted to this game. FOMO might suck for the players, but it is a very real psychology, proven to improve numbers. I hate FOMO, but am the first to admit it had me grinding my -blam!- off for shiny weapons in onslaught.
-
Unfortunately, limited edition items on menus and store shelves prove that fomo is a key component for every business and not just gaming.
-
What i realized with FoMo is that everything will be available after the next update or some sort of event that gets released. Unless it's some shiny weapon of the same gun we already have, but ppl want the shiny look, and that might not be available. But the main weapon or gear always somehow is available byvother means. I've learned not to give 2 effs about FoMo anymore. I just want to play to have fun and on my own time. If I'm being tossed something to make feel like I'm missing out, I lose interest fast.
-
Its driving you away from the game.
-
Play a different game then

Wtf is a fomo
