A few fun facts for those who think HCs don't need to be nerfed

Got your attention? Okay. Let's compare ranges (source used is D2Gunsmith). - Palindrome max range roll (no Adept mods or Rangefinder): 33 meters rounding to the nearest half meter. - Eyasluna (Best Range using Hitmark, no Rangefinder): 32 meters - Ancient Gospel (Best Range for Mag and Barrel, Stability MW): 31 meters - Darkest Before max range: 35 meters - How about Gridskipper? That's got 18 zoom. Max range: 37 meters - Okay, how about Messenger? (No Adept Mods): 41 meters Okay, fair point, Messenger maxed out has about 10 meters on most HCs. But hold on a minute. Those are max range rolls, not optimal rolls, those don't have a lot of Stability. And since those HC rolls are the arguable best possible without RF (Full Bore + Ricochets keeps Palindrome's stability at acceptable levels), let's now compare optimal rolls, since Pulses care about having Stability. For reference, I'm using Chambered + Ricochets + Stability Masterwork for this, since that's arguably the best combo to have on a Pulse. Darkest Before: 32 Meters Gridskipper: 33.5 meters Messenger Adept: 37 meters So why am I throwing these numbers out? What's my goal? Well, dear reader, it's to illustrate why Pulses aren't actually good options matching up against Hand Cannons, and why the meta isn't actually very diverse for the most part. It's because Pulses and other weapons are entirely not worth running against Hand Cannons. They break 30 meters with only about 60 in their range stats. For any good option, this is very hard to roll/build yourself out of. And the result of this is that pulses simply don't have enough range advantage to be worth the reduced ability to play mobile, or the reduced ease of use, or the reduced close range performance. This also doesn't even take into consideration Rangefinder, which on a 140 just outright invalidates any Pulse not rolling at LEAST 60 in the stat at 18 zoom, and squeezes the gap enough to take any Pulse out of contention. Want to know why HCs are used so much? It's because they invalidate most of the weapon roster. That's why pulse usage dropped since Anniversary nerfed Mythoclast, as the nerfs, while not severe, made it lose enough popularity to where using a pulse to counter it in a direct fight wasn't necessary anymore. In short: Blanket nerf HC range by 3 meters, this keeps them still pretty good into that medium-close range playstyle, while giving pulses some breathing room.

  • That or statt tightening up stability(bounce) on pulses. I agree though. No reason a pistol should outrange a rifle... Fusions are their own beasts. Peak shots on single taps from a distance for experienced players will always win. Catching Guardians in the open at that level is rare.
