We've had the weapon TWAB now, and the orb changes still make no sense. Yes I can see why it was moved from masterworking.
However, there isn't any explanation as to why
1. It was moved to the helmet slot, which is very heavily contested
2. Why it's been tied to a specific element instead of simply replicating the old perk. You now need 3 separate mods to make all your weapons produce orbs.
This seems like an intentional nerf, but Bungie won't even own up to it. Ridiculous

well origin traits and after today vidocs makes even more sense , so yeah , we lose something not that important and we get something very good

All that weapon memory is bs just like power creep. They claim power creep is a huge problem but had no issue buffing weapons for witch queen so long as you have to grind endlessly to get it !!!!!! When was the last time weapon pool got a buff or better stats ???? Also they are probably making another change to make your armor obsolete just like they did with weapons Dares of eternity has been dropping some of the highest stat rolls that I have got from ANY activity You think this is by accident ???? If it was a mistake it would have been patched within hours….

34 RepliesMakes perfect sense to me. They already mentioned weapon memory before. Now that they removed orbs, we got intrinsic origin traits, which honestly are more more beneficial to weapon diversity and the longevity of the game than orb generation was. And we got a whole lot of crafting, and ways to extract traits from weapons. Which are also more beneficial to the longevity of the game as well. So while I wish we could still make orbs the old way, I get it.

It’s just like when they made different ammo finder mods for every weapon, instead of just kinetic, energy, and heavy. And that was after they took away ammo synths. Just imagine being able to plan out our own ammo usage/consumption like we used to be able to, instead of being at the mercy of the game saying “no ammo for you”.

8 RepliesIt is a nerf. Bungle is simply weakening our Guardian further - moving the game more toward COD with our Abilities being more like a Kill Streak. It's all about making you play longer and grind more to get less. Bungle needed to artificially increase those play hours so it looks good on paper.

16 RepliesWell their are perks like thresh that are in perk pools plus you get more super energy for damage dealt with a primary and we are yet to see how the mods will work with the reworks to void. All I'm saying really is at the moment I'm running thundercrash which at tier 7 I think is an 8 minute cooldown and I can get it back in moments currently

7 RepliesOrb generation had to be removed from weapons to free up the resources (console memory) to make the changes we’re getting. Bungie looking to buy the tech for Google Stadia may give them a way around these kind of limitations in the future (Bethesda streams some content to workaround the limitations of last gen hardware). But without moving orb generation to armor like they did odds are we would be getting these new weapons features.

Trying new builds I have come to the conclusion that orbs themselves are ridiculous. Orbs of power were close to you but elemental orbs are all over the place except for melee. The whole orb system sucks. When you need them they are over there where you can’t reach because you will die but…. They are laying everywhere after the fight ends. There are a few mods that allow you to be powered by an orb without picking it up but very few. We need to be charged with whatever by doing so no orbs are cluttering up the server and we still benefit from mods.

Bungle never admits to doing things that make the game worse on purpose. They just imply thar we don’t understand their “Vision”. Their only vision is cash flow.

1 ReplyI feel like this is one of those things you know the answer to, but want Bungie to just come and flat out say it. It’s a nerf. Yes they could have moved the ability to generate orbs to almost anything where it would be practically an intrinsic perk we have all the time. Tying to the artifact level, ghost masterwork or ghost mod, even armor master works. But they didn’t, and that should tell you all you need to know. They want you to have to make a choice between orb generation or some other beneficial mod that has made us stronger. And even then you may not be able to generate orbs on all three weapons unless they’re all the same element.

6 RepliesI think it's too soon to pass judgement, weapon crafting has shown that we will be getting a whole lot more trait options on weapons, which may end up being a net buff when compared to the current masterwork system. Personally, I think it is well overdue to remove the intrinsic orb generation on masterworked weapons, it has been a far too easy way to generate orbs which are used in very powerful builds in the game. It was to the point where masterworking a weapon felt mandatory, and now we are free from that burden. My primary complaint about the original announcement is that they found some random excuse for why they were removing orb generation. Saying that this will be a net benefit because some Exotics don't have a catalyst is a pathetic excuse. I would have rather they come out and talk about how on-call orb generation was an overpowered ability and need to be tuned back.

if you read the twab they are cutting down on special ammo so there is another reason to put it it head slot to make you have a hard choice.
