To start I just want to say this IS NOT a rant about invaders because I "suck" at pvp or invading as I'm actually good at both.
From my experience I've noticed roughly 3/4 (75%) of the community that plays gambit seems largely against invading. I say this because about 80% of my gambit matches, if I don't invade no one does. This gets annoying especially since the vast majority of gambit bounties are pve focused and also it get old knowing that if I don't invade, then we will be and we'll end up losing. At that point I've also noticed an increase in matches were neither side will invade for the whole game. Looking at feed back, it seems like the most hated part of gambit is invaders.
So I propose removing the invasion portal and in Witch Queen, have hive guardians spawn in, in place of player guardians. Lore wise, bungie could tie this in very nicely since drifter does a lot of work and experiments with light and dark, and Savathun has an interest in both.
Post Witch Queen we could hear the invasion alarm and see text pop up on the bottem of the screen saying, "Savathun takes interest and sends a vessel to investigate." Then a hive guardian spawns in and hunts the players. What would make them deadly is the fact that they could respawn over and over unless their ghost is crushed. Which given some of the large maps, could be challenging to get to the ghost before they respawn. Then if you ignore them, more could spawn in, so long as the enemy team reaches invasion thresholds. So potentially you could have up to 3 roaming the map, popping supers and spamming abilities.

i like this idea, to expand on it, what if there were longer matches, and upgrades to hive guardians? say first to 200 motes, then defeat the boss. But you could instead use your motes in a separate, clearly marked bank, that would upgrade the hive guardian's health, shield, damage, or mobility depending on the side that you bank on, and have more rotating upgrades per game for replayability (something like grenade cooldown, melee cooldown, class ability cooldown, super cooldown, respawn time decrease, stuff like this). And then make it every 33 or 40 motes banked to summon a hive guardian on the opposing team's side. Then at the boss fight, there will always be one hive guardian trying to defend the boss, and would target the player with the most damage on the boss more than the rest. I like this idea of having hive guardians instead of players, I hope you agree with some of the things I've said here, hopefully some of these can become a reality soon

I think invasions are fine as is.

People don’t invade as they are working on bounties. As a pretty sweaty invader in Gambit myself I am bound to say invasions are important - but I do think they are. Invading (and counter-invading is what the “Gambit” is all about. Risks. I do think they could tweak things, maybe gamble notes to invade? Also, the main thing Gambit needs is a boss melt rework.
-
As you said in your own post....most of the bounties are pve related...so not many invade they are there to get the bounties done while trying to get the pinnacle and then the game mode doesn't get touched.
-
No and no, also no. Without invasions Gambit would be pretty dumb and would remove the PvP portion of the PvEvP. As you pointed out, invading is a strong tool in winning a match. If you’re just bounty hunting you should either use clan mates or stay out of gambit anyhow. Bounty hunters ruin the game mode for other solo que players.

1 ReplyEdited by A KOOL POP TART: 2/3/2022 3:23:18 PMI would like to see your data that claims 3/4 of the community opposes invasions. Was there a survey or general poll that I missed? Did you use random sampling? Stat jokes aside, invasions are common enough that it indicates it is still a popular mechanic. Also, regarding your AI invader idea, Destiny AI is about as intelligent as a dodo bird on a bad day. It would be frustrating for the players on the invading team, and a minor inconvenience for the opposing team. A player forces people to actually take invasions seriously and either continue collecting motes or hide.

Can’t remove invades from Gambit. That makes no sense at all. I played a lot of gambit last week and every game people were invading from both sides. So not sure what you think your anecdotal evidence actually means. Sounds more like you just got paired up with people not good enough to invade.
-
No. Gambit is pvpve mode, theres plenty of pve only activities that u can do if youre not good at pvp
-
3 RepliesNo just because you don’t like invaders doesn’t mean they have to change their entire game mode.
-
The entire point of Gambit is to merge PvE and PvP. What you suggest sounds more like a seasonal activity.
-
You use so many words when all you needed to say is “I’m bad at PvP”. Perhaps try strikes?
-
I dont mind the invading mechanic, what pisses me off is when myself and 2 of my teammates are running around collecting motes, sometimes theres that one -blam!- who stands next to the portal the entire time waiting for an invade and does nothing else
-
Sounds like you just need to play Strikes! You'll get more maps that way too! ;)
-
If you remove invading, Gambit is essentially a 4 player PVE activity where two independent teams fight to see who can kill their boss the fastest? That would be the equivalent of having a Strike playlist where 2 teams compete to see who can complete their strike the quickest. Invading is integral to Gambit and needs to stay. Other improvements need to be made to improve the game mode. The issue with players only doing Gambit for bounties is a symptom of Gambit's downfall, not the cause.

1 ReplyI feel like you're on the right track. What if, instead of invading with busted loadouts, Invaders were given control of a Taken Miniboss with a set moveset?

The biggest problem with invasions is that they're are too much of a game changer, and on top of that, are incredibly linear and predictable. I'd personally love to see invasions receive a complete overhaul rather than being outright removed, preferably so it's more about general sabotage than just outright murdering the enemy team.

I like the idea honestly, but then again there are those that play gambit for the sake of invading. The hive guardians would be a good idea, but I still think gambit is in its test phase (although it’s been 2-3 years) bungie has been fixing a lot of mistakes and have been continually putting in more mistakes to which they have to switch their focus, but it seems that besides the seasonal and story stuff they are now going to start focusing on what players have to play via Gambit, Crucible, and Vanguard. I think later on this year Gambit will be improved to be a better game mode. I do think hive guardians should be added though, like collect 30 motes to activate them or something like that.

I don’t invade and I don’t like that aspect pf the game. Bungie, however, loves to create bad feelings among players. PvP is about toxicity and invading helps feed it. We’ve all had a great run, gathered 15 motes, and been hit in the back with a sniper rifle. How does that make Gambit more fun?

1 ReplyThe bosses need a health pool buff obviously but to clean the invasions up from being so oppressive, tracking rocket launchers should be disabled in gambit or have their ammo drastically nerfed to trials level Having people spawn with an over shield wall hacks and 8 eyes of tomorrow shells is not great gameplay because the only counters are to spam them with your own tracking rockets Gambit has plenty of other problems and super low replay ability but the tracking rocket spam is the worst experience in destiny 2

NO, just fix the AMMO drops if everyone has heavy and special, we're all equal

Lore wise, it's belived that the Lucent Brood can't leave the Confines of Her Throne World. So, that wouldn't work. Again, Not Confirmed, it's the ongoing Theory. -
they need to invade with the eye of riven from last wish that way you dont have to worry about a eyes of tomorrow crossmapping you with no warning.

Losing motes while being invaded simultaneously isn't fun imo.
