A thought about the exotic AR "Tommy's Matchbook"

Hello, just quickly sharing a thought here about that gun. Tommy's Matchbook is a pretty unique exotic, but also one I, as a core player with an unsatisfied love for drum magazine auto rifles, would never play in any activity voluntarily. The simple sole reason for that is the Overheating mechanic. The idea of using a gun that damages myself down to 1/3 of my life when going sustained fire just doesn't sound fun and useful to me. Not even if I get a hefty damage boost for it. Personally, I have to say I would use the gun at all in any activty, if instead of an Overheating mechanic active all the time there would be an alternate fire mode, similar to Vex Mythoclast and Cerberus+1. To me, the gun would appeal much more if I can fire it sustainably without damage boost and without Overheating by default, generating "Overheating" stacks on kills that I can use then to swap to the alternate fire mode, which would work like Overheating already does, but straight from the first bullet I fire for an entire 100 rounds magazine. The Catalyst could also improve the Overheating damage buff or damage resistance while the alternate fire mode is active, to compensate the fire-mode limitation. Right now, I am using this gun only to finish the Catalyst. But once I have it finished, I will put it back into my Vault where it can keep collecting Dust. As I said, to me the guns disadvantages are bigger than the use. It is basically the same "Meme-Gun" problem like Sweet Buisness has. I may be alone with that mindset, but I have yet to find people playing this gun on a regular basis in the crossplay console pool. In both PvE and PvP. ----------------------------- Edit: For example, if players would have more control over "Overheating" via firemodes, they could pair it very well with other exotic perks, like the Solar-Kills Buff Proc from the Titan Exotic "The Path of Burning Steps", which would result in a damage buff of 235% (+35% from the Exotic Boots with 4 stacks for 10 seconds / +100% when firing while Overheated)

  • The issue with this gun is to have to start fieing in order to activate the perk. Most of the time the perk procs when you killed a target, meaning you have to keep firing until you find a new target if you want to use the perk. Its not a fun gameplay at all And in endgame autos are bad enough, i dont really need to be low HP against ennemies that can make me mid life or low with one shot
