Sony just bought Bungie because we are no longer in a “console war” for money and are moving to a “content war.” Only Bungie and now Sony know if Destiny is profitable to the point of going beyond the original 10 year plan or have a new Destiny game or that’s the end of the franchise. Likely Destiny 2 ends in 2024 with one final expansion. If it’s been profitable then a new Destiny comes out with a better engine some time later. Also Bungie has been doing Destiny for 10 years and the leadership/employees may want a change to a new IP because they have been working on one. Best case scenario is Bungie has the ability with Sony to make a new IP and continue Destiny but that’s only likely if then can expand or Sony helps somehow. Edit: the expectation is new IP comes out 2025 so I doubt they will make a new destiny unless they get money and people to continue. My guess is 2024 is the end for a few years.

  • From what I’ve been hearing for a while, it won’t be too long before Sony has to start thinking about the viability of putting gamepass on PS. That’s been one of the end goals for a lot of the moves Microsoft has done as of late. Won’t be long before it’ll be accessible via an app on your tv anyways.

  • Yep. Consoles are going away. It will be an app with you having to find a stick or Bluetooth to work a controller/KBM. PlayStation and Xbox will have more money and resources to make games if they don’t have to make a console.

  • I don’t see consoles going away as there will always be a market for them. I just think you are going to see a lot less console identity especially with every company offering some sort of content pass for their games these days anyways. Plus, Nintendo is still around and while Sony and Microsoft can battle, Nintendo doesn’t have to compete with anyone as people buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games, not multiplatform games.
