I couldn’t disagree with you more. The weapon, especially with its catalyst, is actually very slept on in the crucible especially when running well of radiance.
However I will say this: Boots of the assembler does such a better job at healing teammates with noble rounds that there’s almost no point to run Lumina while you have the boots equipped on your Warlock.

I run both in PvP. It helps especially with an empowering rift.

I completely agree it is slept on. The perk is awesome but the point that I’m making is there is simply no incentive to run it. It’s effective range is 29 metres, it’s exotic perk is healing for teammates and a damage buff. Why should I run Lumina when Ace of Spades only has 5 less stability and gives a damage buff per kill but has 4 more metres of effective range. 29 metres just doesn’t cut it for a 140 in the current sandbox. Virtually all 140’s go higher than that including the exotics.

Virtually all 140’s go higher than that including the exotics.[/quote] Because Ace of Spades is designed to be a top tier dueling exotic hand cannon, where as Lumina is designed to be a top tier team fighting support hand cannon. You simply cannot have one that does it all for the sake of balance, each weapon has its purpose: Lumina is to be a support weapon and AoS is meant for dueling, because it comes back to what you said. Why would I use Ace of Spades if Lumina just got its range buffed? Does that make sense?
-
The distinction id like to make is that lumina doesn’t have to be a top tier duelling hand cannon. Ace has its selling point. It has a non timed version of kill clip, it has outlaw and dragonfly in one and it has an ads radar. All that with 33 metres of range. Lumina has 2 healing shots after a kill with the catalyst unlocked and a 10 second 20% damage buff. But it’s certainly not a top tier support hand cannon. I didn’t ask for lumina to have ace’s range either. I only mentioned a tiny tweak in range to make it the same as a base 140. Giving it rangefinder or even just an additional metre and a half of effective range would make the gun actually viable. Once again considering it is an exotic and demands the slot to be used it should at least be somewhat viable.

Lumina is 100% slept on in the crucible and in pve. I paired it with Boots of the Assembler a couple days ago in Trials of all places, and it was absolutely phenomenal! I was able to stay in the back and snipe while my team rushed the enemy players with overshields and beefed up damage.......... I think Lumina could still use some love though LOL
-
If it got anymore love than it did then it would be too powerful and it would result in some nerfs. Also you have to keep in mind that the whole point of getting extra damage through healing allies is what makes the weapon good to use in crucible, it shouldn’t have a better passive play if the active exotic perk already makes it top tier imo
-
That’s simply not true. Giving it the tiniest bump in range just to make it viable would not hurt the balance of the sandbox in any way.
-
You saying it’s not true doesn’t make it so. Hand cannons already have a forgiving amount of range, Lumina already has a decent range for what it is and not to mention a damage buff that’ll outweigh the falloff from far targets. You’re not even considering the fact that Lumina, much like thorn, was designed to fulfill a specific purpose and that purpose being a healing weapon that also buffs your damage, if it had more range then it would edge into sniper territory levels of ridiculousness once you had the damage buff (which mind you is easily obtained twice after getting a single kill). I mean have you seen a how busted Chaperone’s range is in a lunafaction empowering rift? Now imagine instead of using a rift that was just your exotics passive range stat, it would be too strong in the crucible.

So there’s one big flaw with your argument there. You claim if lumina were to receive even a tiny buff in its range it would enter sniper territory with its buff active. Then why does ace have 33 metres at base and a similar potency damage buff after a kill. Surely that makes memento mori ace able to hit at sniper range? Of course it can’t. I understand guns are made to fill niches but the point is that luminas range is not competitive for it as a base hand cannon and that is making justifying the commitment to using it harder. Hence bungie should tweak its range ever so slightly to give it a little more. If it was able to hit at 31 metres at least it would be viable. Considering legendary options for archetypes with lower base range than lumina can reach 31 metres (a god rolled survivors epitaph) lumina has a niche but part of that niche doesn’t have to be its lower range. The weapon should be brought in line with other 140’s. The previous trade off for its range was a faster fire rate and slightly faster ttk. It’s stability stat is only 5 more than ace of spades and yes it has more handling but with quick access sling and hand cannon dexterity that isn’t enough of a reason to justify having a weapon be downright worse than the other weapons in its archetype.
