I have been a hardcore fan of destiny since the beta of D1, but I have certainly taken breaks like many others during that time. One of those breaks started about a month into the season of the undying. I missed out on some ornaments I really wish I had now.
In games like Valorant, they have an option to actually choose which season pass your XP goes to. During seasons like this one, it would be great if I could just go to the timeline menu where it shows I own the undying season and select to contribute my XP to that season where I left off after reaching 100 this season. To those that have earned everything, allow them to restart the pass to earn more ascendant shards/exotic rolls. This would help eliminate FOMO, monetize old content, and still retain those ornaments' value because they are earned.
Vaulting content, like locations is necessary due to size constraints as discussed before by Bungie, but this Idea would reduce FOMO by using content that is still in the game but inaccessible while also providing more to do and another reason to bring late in the season. I genuinely believe this would help the game, and I would love to hear if others agree.
EDIT: To clarify, this would only be available to earn old rewards after exceeding rank 100 in the current season. So to a new light that started in S15, after reaching 100, he may equipt S14's pass and complete it at 200 for the current season. For players who have already completed all seasons, there would be a blank repeatable season where world drops would take fixed weapon/ armor slots and synthweave would replace the old ornaments. While this eliminates the "but you weren't there" flex these ornaments provide, all of them will require the same amount of XP and hours to earn, just earned when they wanted to play.

2 RepliesHere's MY idea on how to get rid of FOMO: Just don't let it bother you. Just acknowledge that anything you "miss" will not be -missed-. If it's a weapon, it'll come back soon enough so you didn't really miss anything. Same for armor. If it's a campaign, it's immortalized on youtube so you can go back and catch up on the story. If it's a map, it was probably crap anyways (except you, Equinox...Miss you, buddy <3) so don't let that wear you down. Seriously, FOMO doesn't exist unless an individual allows it to. Just stop giving a -blam!- about "missing out" on things that are never truly gone.

Agreed, but not on the method of getting old seasons. I think it should be done like halo mcc/infinite. Add a season, charge $10, when season ends, DON'T remove the season (which I know you weren't saying btw) Idk exactly how it would work, but show all seasons, players can, "equip" one season to level at a time, get 100% of it's contents if they pay $10 to get the paid track if wanted, and once all seasons are over, I'd be down for a "prestige" on season passes, (probably only the current one, for the time it's active) But I think you should be able to choose which season you want to unlock past stuff for, just like mcc/infinite. That last part didn't sound like what you were saying, but I think you are still right. I hope bungo does this some day, along with adding silver to the pass.

5 RepliesThe whole season thing is stupid. I much rather spend $15 on a DLC that you can buy and play whenever you want if you got into the game late, like the really fun Borderlands 3 ones were, than this "season that goes away" nonsense. You can even play the BL3 DLCs solo or with your friends or through LFG years later if you wanted to. so this is Bungie's choice. One of many really bad ones.

3 RepliesEdited by Xero: 1/31/2022 12:27:00 PMI get it. It sounds great. But it probably wouldn't work "on paper". Bungie already has a system in place. Take a look at the Eververse Store and the answer is in there. Bungie could just sell the seasonal sets for 1500 Silver like the other sets. No, not Bright Dust. The leveling concept suggestion also cheapens it out for those who pay for the season(s), max out the pass, and move to another game. It needs to be fair for everyone, and the best concept of how this is demonstrated, is the way things are set up now. A player who does pay for access to the season will get a slightly better incentive, compared to one who doesn't. The Season Pass is...1000 Silver (I think?) $10-15 give or take the region. For those who didn't pay for it (didn't play), or have no clue what was missed (new players), those folks can just pay 1500 Silver if they want it that badly, just like the other sets. It gives incentive to buy the season pass, because it's "cheaper (Think in Silver costs), in the moment (you are playing it during the season), and offers "more" (planetary material, few exotics, Upgrade Modules, Cores, etc)". It doesn't leave those who missed it completely in the dark, minus missing the seasonal story, which can be read in the timeline summarized. Also doesn't stick it to those who did buy the season pass and played the game for that time. That was the chance to earn them. Selling it for Bright Dust in any capacity will just enrage those who did spend money. So the set should also be paid with Silver to make it fair. Those caught in the middle who didn't level up the pass all the way, can just "complete the set" in the store if the player really wants to. Seasons are a "side story" with a toss of some "space fashion" on the side. Players shouldn't feel obligated to get it, but also should know what is being missed if they don't opt for it. Even then..."there's always next season". Besides, once you play enough seasons, you kind of know what to expect. It isn't about the FOMO so much now. It's more about playing the game to get your money's worth based on what you're spending in it. The cosmetic ornaments are a visual way for players to "see" their money's worth...in a way. The only reason the "Live event sets" can be bought with Bright Dust is because the event itself isn't required to be bought, it's free to all. Make sense? The marketing strategy is already in place. The only thing missing is adding those seasonal sets to the rest when a new campaign drops. (i.e.: Dropping the seasonal sets in store for SK when BL drops, or dropping BL sets when WQ drops.) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1 ReplyI played every season and have everything. I want new players to be able to get most of the stuff I have. Its so annoying telling someone you cant get the thing I have. Some of them will just quit because the feeling of missing out so much is not motivating at all.

1 ReplyI don’t know. I get what you are saying. But honestly the last three seasons I’ve waiting until 3-4 weeks at the end. In those weeks you can literally grind the 100 on season pass and earn the season title. These passes don’t have enough content for 90 days. A story line that can be completed in a couple of hours is dragged out for weeks on end. And everyone knows the expansion is ehe. The first season of the expansion you can stay busy. Story line, new location, new raid, etc. But after those first 90 days. The other 3 seasons suck. Truthfully there isn’t much to do or even hardcore anymore.
-
2 RepliesUnfortunately, Bungie would need to shed its "WoW" inspirations from their brains. People don't realize that WoW was the king of FOMO for over a decade because the entire game was built on FOMO, its why WOW players took forever to finally leave even after poor expansion releases.

3 RepliesEdited by Deadlocked21: 1/31/2022 4:38:38 PMPersonally, I’m torn on this. On the one hand, I think at least a little FOMO is important for the game. If you’re in Bungie’s position, and are constantly trying to keep people playing the game, then to me it makes sense to offer some exclusive rewards to them. FOMO, like it or not, is a side effect of that. If you don’t reward a player’s time investment in the game, then you’re actively making things worse, not better. Especially in a live service mmo/rpg-lite game like Destiny 2. That being said, though, the amount of FOMO in this game is absurd. On the whole, I hate the concept of paying for a season pass and then having it taken away from you, and I personally see no reason to keep those in particular locked away forever. Look at how Halo Infinite is doing it - sure, monetization isn’t good in that game either, but at least season passes are always available and you keep them permanently. Stuff like Day 1 raid emblems or the Moments of Triumph seals are a good kind of FOMO. Taking away COSMETIC CONTENT that people paid for is not. And it isn’t like the DCV, either - all those cosmetics are still useable today, still in-game, along with the weapons, even if they are sunset.

1 ReplyHalo MCC did something similar and I really like it

1 ReplyThis is actually a good idea assuming no leveling or content is associated with time limited content. Someone else also suggested that if you acquire the gear in the season it was originally available, it would be in a different colour or something just to add a little exclusivity (appreciate with shaders this is a bit pointless really, but all cosmetic stuff is pointless in the scheme of things).
-
3 RepliesBut the season passes offer nothing substantial, it's just a load of mats and a couple of emotes. Plus, people have 3 months to finish it...
-
1 ReplyI love when people start posts with “I’ve been a fan/player since *insert D1 game date*” like it validates what they’re about to say. Who cares when you started? If you have a valid point it shouldn’t matter if you’re a veteran player or not.

1 ReplyEdited by Althanash: 1/31/2022 4:58:13 PMSo recycle the content via the content we hardly engage with? I'm seeing a lot of positives but here's the trouble.......it gives us more control. Something Bungie have been reigning in and away from us a bit. It also gives an excessive farming ability...... In short it's a nice idea. But it'll never see the light of day.

3 RepliesOne of the most creative, sensible, positive suggestions I have seen on this forum .. who knows, a dev may actually get to hear/read this and pick up on it ..
-
They don't want to remove FOMO
-
4 RepliesNo because I want to feel special and snowflakey for being there when others weren’t!
-
Great idea's. Sony probably doesn't care.
-
10 RepliesReal way to eliminate FOMO? Stop removing content! Stop sunsetting! Oh then they would have to actually work ...
-
How easily are you nostalgia kids fooled by Bungie? LOL. Sunsetting didnt happen because of power creep. Content vaulting doesnt happen because of disk space or other limitations. Scummy decisions like these are made to reissue content. So yea, reading expressions like these from so called "vets" is either laughable or just sad. This company has only one intent. Making money. They keep reselling the same old garbage to us after taking it away from us. That's why we have FOMO. Greed.

15 RepliesMaxing out the season isn't hard if you don't do it that's on you

15 RepliesPro tip: if you want something in game, play the game and get it 👌

9 RepliesYou -blam!- call everything FOMO!!! It’s fine to not have things because you couldn’t play Destiny. The amount entitlement is staggering in this community. That doesn’t mean everything revolves around your schedule. Get over yourselves
-
1 ReplyThis is a great idea but unfortunately it will never happen. FOMO is a core part of Destiny as a franchise, it keeps people coming back for the "what if I miss something good". Imagine if there was no FOMO, people would leave during content droughts to play other games and the playerbase would drop substantially meaning the Eververse store would take a big hit. It's all about Bungie ensuring the cash flow is steady.
-
I really like this idea, and have suggested similar before. Sadly, some people only find gratification in the thought that they have stuff in a video game that other people don’t have, and bungie caters to those people. So I doubt bungie will implement anything like what you’re suggesting.

3 RepliesWould players have to buy the old season passes to be eligible for unlocking them? How would that work? It couldn't be full price as they wouldn't be getting the associated activities. You can't just give it them for free as that'd annoy everybody that paid for it.
