It's part of the new filter that goes after even the wildest misspellings of the "n word", often targeting separate words that at their end and beginning have some combination of the letters N, G, E, and R.

I don’t read every topic around here, but was there an epidemic of N-word usage on these forums?
-
Never that I've seen. Quite frankly don't think I've ever seen it here, whether that's because of filters, moderators, or the community, it's hard to tell. Probably a combination, to be fair.
-
It just felt like an overreaction to something that wasn’t happening.

Well with the recent focus on things of that nature, being more sensitive to each other, being progressive, etc... Particularly after that IGN article... I'm not surprised. Seeing how little attention this forum gets in the form of dev support, I'm even less surprised to see something implemented so poorly, whether it was with good intentions or not. When I first noticed the filter, all I could think was it was a Streisand effect moment. In trying to hide offensive words, all they did was highlight it in draconian fashion. Make the word they wanted to hide more apparent while making themselves look oppressive for trying to shut speech out to such a degree.

Certainly seems like they may have tweaked or removed the filter, which is good news.

Testing for Harbinger.

Was that even an issue to begin with? I can’t recall ever seeing this forum full of intentionally misspelled racial slurs.
-
No, in fact I think it's brought nothing but more attention to the word ever since the change. However, looking at some of the responses, I wonder if they changed the parameters recently, some words seem to be getting through now, properly.

IMO it was because they used the same algorithm from the bungie name change thing for the forum. It removed so many people's usernames that were benign just because a few letters together were flagged.

That would be my guess as well.
