Researching In Red (Offtopic roleplaying Warlock Holmes Story.)
Disclaimer: offtopic roleplaying so here is the typical if you don’t like don’t read. Also I apologize for bad formatting and grammar mistakes if there are any. Enjoy.
“I don’t get it Holmes. What do these murders have to do with vampires? There is none of the traditional tell tale signs. No pale skin or even bite marks. The only loss of blood was from the slash wound.” I asked my companion. “Careful vampirism my dear Watson. With people like you and me it is imperative that one stays carful in there nightly feasting or else invoke the wrath of any hunters like us.” Holmes responded. “But how do you get vampires?” “It’s elementary. All of the murders took place outside but furthermore they took place all around sewer grates. The blood was assumed to drain out into the sewers but I checked there but the blood disappeared. Furthermore there were no tracks of any kind except for at the site itself meaning that the murdered did not walk there. Finally I found tracings of blood on the sides and roofs of the building meaning that the killer flew away. I deduce that this vampire was trying to be careful which explains the many different victims who he fed on each.” “Huh. Carefully vampirism it seems.” “Not careful enough Watson. Once we get back to Baker Street I will check the maps and trace these murders back to where they originated from. Get the stakes and garlic Watson. The hunt is afoot!” Holmes cried as he proceeded to make haste towards our apartment. In a literal sense for he casted a spell of haste upon both of us. It was a dark and foggy night on the streets of offtopic. Holmes was excited for this case. He was dressed in his trench coat and hat with the addition of his purple cloak. I myself was suited in chain and on over the mail I wore a dramatic trench coat because Holmes demanded it. In my hand was a trusty cane which unfolded into a saber of course. As we approached the apartment that we shared, my companion halted. He sniffed around a little before turning to me and saying, “Enter with caution. Someone has been here recently. Maybe a potential client but we should always proceed cautiously.” We entered the building and slowly creeped up the staircase. Once we entered our own flat I saw everything was still in the usual mess Holmes keeps it in. But my companion was not so sure. “Something was amiss while we were gone. Our visitor was looking for something. '' Holmes said as he began looking through cabinets. I began my investigation for a glint of light reflected to my eye from the windowsill. Hanging from our open window was a necklace with a bright orange gem attached to it. It belonged to Holmes and was where he would store a certain extra dimension prisoner. I walked over to the crystal to peer inside but instead of seeing the monsters hidden inside I only saw the orange glow of the gem. “Holmes,” I said, my voice filled with urgency, “did you say I would be able to see the creature stored inside of this crystal?” “Of course you can” he responded casually while continuing to search the room. “Then why is there nothing in the crystal?” I said while placing my hand on the hilt of my sword. Holmes froze and slowly looked up towards the crystal. The words that’s impossible uttered from his mouth. Suddenly something started materializing behind Holmes. A hulking abomination cloaked in death. Some unearthly mix between a giant spider, a serpent, and a person. I tried to warn Holmes but it was too late. The creature picked up the wizard and threw him into a nearby desk. I charged the beast and my sword slashed into its flesh three times but to no avail. The creature did not seem to be harmed at all by my blade. The beast launched a cone of fire at myself. I attempted to dodge unsuccessfully and the magical flames burned into my skin. “Watson! The closet” I heard the voice of my friend say behind me although I could not see him. I backed up towards an old wooden closet that Holmes likes to keep and I waved my sword frantically trying to get the abominations attention. From out of his invisibility spell Holmes appeared behind me. The creature could have used some reason but once it caught the sight of the man who locked it up in a gem, it grew angry and charged Holmes. Both of us grabbed a door to the closet and swung it open before dodging to the side. As the beast charged it went right into our closet of holding and we quickly slammed the doors and braced them. “Not the weirdest thing we have in that closet” Holmes joked. We began barricading the closet door with everything we had. Beds, desks, chairs, nothing was spared. “What was that?” I asked Holmes. “Niw. An enemy we defeated once before.” Holmes replied. “Why do you keep those things as a pet. Couldn’t you just get a dog or a lizard or something! And how did it escape.” “It’s escape would be impossible. Only I could open it so I thought. Fascinating. Either way we have flying vampires to catch” “We were just attacked. Could that case not wait” “No it cannot wait Watson. For you found the prison gem on an open windowsill. We left all the windows closed meaning that someone used that as a method of entrance of escape. Maybe whoever released Niw was trying to distract us and get away. Let us make that escape unsuccessful.” Holmes said as he walked over to a group of maps. He began looking over the city's maps and tracing each attack back to its origins. I went to get some tools. I grabbed a better shield and sword, wooden stakes, some garlic, and a frozen bottle of holy water on a stick. Once we were prepared Holmes led us away. Later that night we found ourself at an old decrepit manor. A set of old doors were guarded by two ancient gargoyles. Set upon the doors where rusted metal knockers which had a pattern that resembled a bat. Holmes knocked on the doors and they swung open creaking eerily in the night. Once inside the doors slammed shut. We were in a sitting room. Old decrepit sofas were thrown about. The whisper of a soft harpsichord echoed across the room it’s melody of beauty almost haunting the night. There was a set of double doors on the back wall. Paintings hung about in the room. Paintings of Holmes and myself it was quite odd. Holmes went over to investigate the door. “The door is locked and possibly trapped. I will see if I can get it open” he said as he readied his tools. I decided to give the place a quick look around before moving onwards. I noticed that one of the paintings was crooked, which wouldn’t be odd, except for the other ones where perfectly straight. I moved over the painting to find a button behind it. Holmes got the doors open but it only swung open towards a stone wall. As I pressed the hidden button words appeared on the wall of stone. It can't be seen, can't be felt, can't be heard and can't be smelt. It lies behind stars and under hills, and empty holes it fills. It comes first and follows after, ends life and kills laughter. What is it? Holmes repeated the riddle under his breath before searching through his spellbook. After finding the spell he needed he looked to me and spoke, “Get ready for I am unsure what is about to happen.” Then he cast a spell of darkness. The entire room was plunged into darkness and even when Holmes tried dispelling the magic it would not work. We heard the opening of a trapdoor somewhere unseen. Darts and arrows began firing from the walls although we could not see. I raised my shield as an attempt to block. I could not see Holmes but eventually I found this secret trapdoor. I alerted Holmes to its location, if he was still even there, and entered. I found myself in an old stone cellar. There were no exits that I could see. Shadow-like figures led by a spawn of a vampire began approaching me. I readied my sword and shield for a fight.

 • Meanwhile Holmes began making his way towards the trapdoor when a strange mist surrounded him. “Come with me” the wizard heard echoing through this head as he was teleported away. Holmes found himself in a big open room. Four tall statues stood on each corner of the room. A harpsichord was in the middle of the room on which a figure dressed in dark clothing sat. The figure got up to greet Holmes. He was tall and dark and his face was covered in shadow. Only two piercing red eyes could be seen. “I would like to invite” the shadow began before Holmes interrupted him. “Where is Watson?” Holmes said aggressively. “Do Not worry your friend is safe. He is skilled in the art of combat and probably will return to you. If he survives of course.” The vampiric Figure said with a grin. Holmes observed the strange vampire before saying “Your a man it Education, or at least in life you where, I can tell because of your tie or more likely the chalk on it. Probably some sort of Professor. But professor who?” “Very good Holmes but who I am is unimportant. It is who you are that is important in the matter. I could show off but I don’t have to. I know everything about you Holmes.” “Why are you here then. What do you want?” “Why don’t you guess?” “Well you seem to have wanted me here. At first I thought your schemes were supposed to avoid my watchful eye but now I can tell you wanted me here. Why? I cannot be certain. Although I would make a powerful spawn and I do have a history with vampires.” “Incorrect Holmes. I don’t want to feed on your blood. I want to play a game. We are not that different. We understand that life can be boring and it is all a game. I wish to play. You are an entertaining little wizard.” “Why then haven’t you kept to the shadows then? Haunted from the cover of darkness.” “I have but it is so boring. I have been here for a long time, Holmes, hidden in plain sight, but I grow weary of waiting. It is more dramatic and entertaining if the world is aware of my presence in some way. Watson’s journal will be quite a good tool for that. Let me show you where this all began” the vampire said as he reached his hand out towards Holmes.
