I have replied to a topic like this before, but that was before crown of sorrows had come out. I appreciate the sentiment of “anybody can be taught”, “anybody can be carried”, “the community should band together and help people” etc. However, in crown of sorrows specifically, due to the nature of the witch’s blessing buff, each fireteam member to an extent is required to demonstrate some level of competence.
Players with buff and players without buff are required to kill certain enemies at different times depending on the timing. It is imperative that each player understand their responsibility, whether it be thrall, wizards, knights, or ogres. If a person is not pulling their weight, in addition to not having timing correct when witch’s blessing needs to be swapped, it becomes immediately obvious.
While I don’t condone elitism in anyway, I understand people not wanting to spend hours on a relatively simple concept. I have other sh*t I have to do in the day. Some people will never complete a raid, some people will never see a comp game above 2100, some people will never.......(insert achievement here). And thats okay in the end. Never will encourage trying to make these encounters and mechanics more accessible, because when things are easily completed we don’t get any better as players.
Seeing 5500 glory is not an actual achievement in life, completing last wish or crown of sorrow is not an achievement either. Do the best you can with who you are and strive to improve.

And I agree with your statements, though I do want to point out that I don’t carry people through raids. If I’m teaching someone a raid then I’m dedicating hours of my time to teach and they will have to carry their own weight. I might put them in a position that is easier or take a job that is complicated so they have a moment to learn the basics, but carrying people doesn’t help them learn. It’s also completely valid to not want to teach someone a raid. It takes time and patience to Sherpa a group through end game activities. A lot of people don’t have the time and just want to spend maybe an hour or two on a raid instead of more. While not everyone is going to do a thing is true a true statement, that doesn’t mean people should be excluded from an activity. If people want to learn and give it a try, then finding the right teacher should be easier for them. It will help them grow as a player and bring another person a fun experience. If they don’t complete it then maybe raiding isn’t for them, but that is for the player to decide.

I respect that honestly, perhaps I have been somewhat elitist myself to an extent in the way I put together my fireteams. I just always looked at from the perspective that the person being brought along was a “carry”. I never really considered taking the time or approaching it as a teaching experience. There will always be people who do need help with these kinds of things in the future, and I would encourage those who do have the ability including myself to make room for those who solicit help on occasion. Thats not really a flex, more of a reality check. I know I have cut myself off from people in crucible and in raids because of how sh*tty they played on a given night. In the end it wasn’t really that big of a deal, this is a video game after all. Let me know if you ever need a player when you sherpa. Happy to help. -Warden RS
