[opinion] Dungeons, if done right, could be the future of solo-player endgame content - please read

And if you read and agree, upvote. So bungie sees this and all the further opinions you other users post in here. Let's make this the dungeon thread or something. Ideally Destiny 3, or whatever the big final content drop will be, should definitely come with sufficient dungeons. Three or four as per vanilla would be ideal. With one additional dungeon per DLC. If they are as long and tough as, or longer and tougher than, Shattered Throne then that's perfect. Make it a really immersive experience. In a location and environment that is really unique in the game and cool to look at and of course fun to play and be in. But don't forget the loot. Some pinnacle rewards, similar to how Shattered Throne gave you the Wishender bow, is a given. One great exotic piece per dungeon. Maybe it could tie in with the story as well. But aside from that I think it would be cool if dungeons had their own loot pool as well. Legendary weapons and armor sets that you can get only there, in the dungeon. As everyone who playes RPGs knows: Dungeons have treasure chests. And so should Destiny dungeons. And with each chest there should be a chance to get the unique armor pieces and weapons. These dungeons could also come with challenges, minor daily ones which grealy boost the chance of getting the dungeon exclusive gear, but also weekly challenges which are harder but you are guaranteed one dungeon exlusive piece. If you want to make the dungeons and rewards really enticing, then make it so that dungeon weapons and gear also have their own selection of perks that cannot roll on any other weapon from any other source. Perks that are generally useful, but also perks that are especially good to be used in dungeons. Similar to how raid armor gives an edge in raids. This could also be tied to sets and set bonuses, which were more or less introduced in Gambit Prime. There is also room to have dungeons come with modifiers too. I've been missing stuff like Small Arms and Specialist for a while now. Would be a good place to bring them back, right? Dungeons could be themed after each of the enemy factions. Shattered Throne was a taken dungeon, but how about a Fallen themed dungeon in Old Russia for example? Where puzzles conists of platforming through the walls of cosmodromes and hacking old terminals to progress (Similar to Wrath of the Machine). Or a Cabal themed dungeon which is basically some legion's barracks and which focuses more on flat out combat and horde mode. A hive dungeon where we have to recreate their rituals by assembling and placing runes in order to move forward. There's plenty to work with. And some of them could even have real story relevance. Consider this? Do you want the finale against the darkness to be a campaign mission? Or a raid that will require five other people? No no, a much harder, immersive dungeon at the end of D3 that culminates the entire story as our guardian goes in to take on the darkness (or whatever it is) would be the perfect way to wrap things up. Way too good an opportunity. And of course: NO dungeon in no genre is complete without bosses. Dungeons could contain up to three: Two minibosses and one final boss. The minibosses would be the usual fare: Customized and size-increased regular enemies. Maybe with a gimmick or two. But the final dungeon boss would be way more unique. Something between a strike and a raid boss but for single players. I know Bungie already teased they want to do this more. But we haven't heard about it since. So that too is why I made this thread: As some sort of pre-emptive feedback, if that makes sense. This way Bungie gets an idea of what we would like to see and want. So feel free to either agree with me or contribute your own ideas and opinions. Make sure bungie sees this.

  • Another thing: If Dungeons were fleshed out enough they could have their own Triumph section. Complete with tasks and a title at the end.

    • When I was first told about dungeons I was super excited just on the premise alone. Difficult endgame content that while still being accessible to a fireteam, was possible to be soloed by skilled players. We are glad the community really enjoyed this content and the team is aware that there is a desire for more of it.

      • In all honesty, if they had a set cycle of shattered throne esc dungeons for every week (not random ffs), then id be incredibly happy with that alone. DG Specific loot pools would also be nice, even if the gear just had a "chance" to drop, id be more inclined to grind for it knowing the drop tables aren't cluttered. Although, if you really wanted to implement team+solo play into something like this. Seeing how bungie wants to encourage team play activities (from content ive seen thus far) they could simply add a modifier to how many enemies there are, an their power level for the number of players. i.e. a 1 man could be pretty challenging, but doable if youre smart, 2 man would feel about the same as doing it solo. but if you 6 man it *leans back in chair with evil laughter* id at least hope the struggle is as real as the loot :3

      • Wishful thinking!!! Bungo will never do anything that fun. They drip feed ornaments for gods sake. How hard could it be to make 20 ornaments for every weapon and dump it on us in game to grind for?? Apparently super dooper hard!!

      • Infinite forest could have been a cool dungeon idea. Each time you enter your path and order of boss fights changes. Niobe labs could have been a cool name for a dungeon instead of a poorly executed puzzle door for a forge. Thought we’d see more dungeons since it seemed the community really liked shattered throne.

%100 agree Every lost sector should've been a dungeon with unique rewards: 1. 1 Exotic per dungeon 2. 1 Armour set for each class 3. A legendary weapon of each type 4. Cosmetics (Ghost Shell, Ship, Sparrow.....) 5. Ornaments for Exotic for doing a certain challenge for that dungeon Imagine the amount of content for a solo player, all of the unique weapons from dungeons should be like pinnacle weapons too. I know that sounds like a lot of work to make, but if you want a quality game that brings people back, this would be one hell of a step in the right direction. They could even make it where once a week, a dungeon is chosen at random, it is higher light level than normal and drops more rewards at higher light levels.

        • Yeah, Shattered Throne is one of the best things to run through. I hope we get something like a Vex dungeon to open up on Nessus or Io

          • To me it's also important that dungeons do not lose their labyrinth character. Exploration and trying to understand the layout of a dungeon is at least half the fun. Nobody wants a series of rooms in a line.

          • Big idea: Remember during year 1 how people complained about stuff like Kabr's ship, Saint-14's ship or the armor sets of lore characters being exclusive to the Eververse store? Dungeons actually bring the solution: Lore character armor sets, weapons that belonged to lore characters, lore character ships and sparrows or ghosts shells, all these would make for sweet dungeon loot.

            • Honestly, raid would be much better without the wipe mechanics or time trial bullshit or the boss that requires "DPS phase". Ffs, just give boss shittons of health and mechanic changing attack when its health get lowered to certain %. DPS phase on boss is just plainly -blam!- where in the end it just became the contest to be able to 1 phase the boss. Bosses should be hitting hard, fast, and have unpredictable move, not a move where you all get wiped when you do a single wrong move. Shattered throne Dul Incaru is the perfect example of this. More dungeon like shattered throne will probably become more impactful to players that are trying to do chill stuff rather than grouping up for raid and most of the time put "KWTD" since raid has wipe mechanics.

              • Anything that doesn't require you to scream down a mic with others all the way through something is fun in my book👍. It is possible to make something challenging without the need for a mic. Mic should always be optional in my opinion

              • I just want more PvE content with 4 player fireteams. A 4 player Dungeon that's still playable solo would be nice. I'd like to see more Dungeons in Destinys future than raids.

              • I don’t agree. When I hear the word dungeon I think a mysterious and hard area in a video game. I think they should be like a lost sector without the Lost sector sign. Take the EDZ make the map x2 bigger make 2 dungeons on this huge map, there shouldn’t be milestones or rewards tied to it I want them to be these mysterious places dark places just like shattered throne. The deeper you go inside of it the more kills you get the higher chance for reward. You can go in solo enemies will be easy at first the more you kill the higher health and smarter they get. There could be a voice spoken to you as you go deeper saying “escape this place” or “leAve now” in a deadly hive voice like a horror game. Your chat on the button right says something like enemies become more aggressive or your light grows darker. The more people you bring with you the easier it is but enemies will scale to your power and eventually you will die. The more enemies you defeat the more loot you get. This would be an amazing wave experience people have been asking for since destiny 1, these dungeons could be HUGE areas and the deeper you explore new mysteries come etc...

                • They will make it cost 20 enhancement cores to enter a dungeon, all the while lowering drop rates of said cores.

                • I love raids. Absolutely love em. But I'd take a nice dungeon over a raid lair. Solo players have something to work for and it'd still have the complexity of a raid. A nice challenge for all players.

                • It would be even better if these dungeons went more into lore too. There is so much lore in this game that you really don’t see or hear about. Yes it’s cool to read the cards or the triumphs but lets see them actually integrated in the game. Some cool dialogue or cut scenes. I want to feel this story and be drawn to it as I’m playing. To be genuinely intrigued and not have to go to YouTube to figure out what’s actually going on story wise behind the scenes. Dungeons would be a great way to integrate some more lore as well as offer solo players the opportunity to get powerful and unique gear and weapons drops with similar loot pools as raids. Just my 2 cents.

                  • Dungeons can also be expanded through DLCs. What's stopping updates from adding doorways that lead into new sections of old dungeons?

                  • Shattered throne and whisper mission are both my favourite content in D2, then last wish, haven't done Niobe labs but looks ok but not on par. If I had a new dungeon every 2 months with modifiers challenges an internal economy including armour, weapons and shaders etc I would be a happy customer
