About the Complete and Utter Lack of Chat & Social Features

The lack of any real kind of chat is sorely disappointing, and makes a lot of things much more difficult. A game that's all about grouping up, whilst having no way to communicate and meet new people is a bit bizarre. I get that you don't want players to be toxic, but this is not the way. This is only hurting, and forcing players to use other, outside means to group up and talk with each other. I can almost wrap my head around not wanting some sort of world or local chat, but there's not even a way to talk to clan mates. So what is the point of a clan? Do clans only exist so you can get the free stuff each week? Is a clan just an arbitrary thing you have to join -- a box to tick -- so that you can get an extra engram or two? Because it's obviously not about the social aspect, or making it easier to join groups, as clans are with literally every other game on Earth. The people in my clan are complete strangers to me; the only way I can communicate with them is by blindly inviting them, hoping they accept, explaining what I wanna do, and then hoping again that they'll be up for it. I don't wanna do that, and they probably don't want that, either. That is counterintuitive to the absolute max, and there is literally no difference between doing that to someone in my clan and some random person I see standing around. This needs to be addressed. Every MMO and MMO-lite on PC -- ever -- has had these features. And there's a reason: the positives far outweigh the negatives. Yes, sometimes there will be some toxic players; there will be those people who send you hate after a Crucible match; there will be those people who cuss you out for some perceived sleight; there will be those people who just decide to throw out a bunch of obscenities for no reason at all. These people exist, yes, but that's why block & report functions also exist. And the benefits? Take your pick. There are lots of little things, like helping strangers learn how to activate the Heroic versions of the PQs (so they don't ruin it for everyone else, like is currently happening), taking 10 seconds to ask the community to clarify something you don't totally understand, finding that pesky region chest, alerting fellow guardians about the location of a high value target, or just thanking someone for saving or reviving you. And then there are bigger things, like turning clans from these arbitrary things you join for no other reason than to get free loot into communities you want to join so that you can meet new people and have an easier time running Nightfalls and eventually raids with. And emotes simply don't cut it; there's only so much you can convey by walking ridiculously at someone.

 • I was absolutely taken back by not having clan chat. Literally flew my hands up with my head tilted and yell “WHAAAT??”... the heck is up with this. The game feels like one of those chocolate Easter bunnies that you thought was solid, only to bite it and find that it’s hollow, thin, and crumbling. xD
