Exclusive Exotics
I would like to see exotics that are only attainable by doing a list of hard challenges for different modes. One each would do for, pve questing, public events, strikes, raids, and crucible/trials/iron banner.
For example, the one for pve questing could require completing every adventure, finding every lost sector, killing 10k enemies in pve, and then being rewarded with a exclusive exotic.
The best thing about these exotics is that they can only ever be attained by doing these crazy challenges. So anyone you saw who had one, you know they earned it, spending lots of hours doing that activity. Not buying it from Xur some weekend.
That's my idea for one thing that would add to the games long lasting appeal. Upvote if you like the idea.
Edit: I get that 10k kills is easy, just takes awhile. So that would be the easiest one to get then.
The exclusive exotic for raiding would be much more difficult to earn. Ya know, for all you hardcore players who would never take me on a raid, simply because I have never done it before.
The idea is simply that there would be a handful of exotics that can ONLY be obtained from hard challenges for each "mode".
Edit 2: I'm not asking for balance breaking super exotics, just more to grind for. And I'm an elitist for that apparently, wanting more content, that isn't easy for everyone to get.
Please casual gamers, beat the game and move on, stop ruining the game for people who will still be playing in 2 years.

Quad barreled blunderbuss that can be equipped as a primary weapon as reward for completing hard raid without walking forward or strafing to the left.[spoiler]Step off on your right foot, matey...[/spoiler] [i]Oversized Sword of Too Much Japan[/i] as reward for killing enemies in crucible only after pointing at them and finishing the match with a positive k/d. Minimum of 10 unassisted "target" kills. Challenge can not be completed as part of a fireteam. Melee gauntlets with passive elemental damage of current subclass as reward for completing a special nightfall strike ten levels above max level cap using only melee (no shots fired, no abilities, no grenades, no supers), getting no less than 40 kills, and never allowing health drop into the red. Helmet with zoom function (press in stick while aiming) that acts as a toggled scope for weapons with no attached scope but removes aiming crosshairs while zoomed as reward for getting no kills and 321 assists without dying across 21 consecutive hours in mission.[spoiler]The Spotter's Spyglass[/spoiler]

1 ReplyI wouldn't say going on a dull collect-a-thon is really "exotic" worthy. When I think of exotics that are properly challenging to get, I think of things like the Y1 Thorn quest and Black Spindle. Or, even better, something like the Outbreak Prime which required an ARG, a raid completion, and cooperation with other players.

Rat king in my opinion is a pretty interesting quest but the reward is trash if you're not working with other rat king users. Seriously all I have to do for Mida is complete a regular mission? Then do some pointless shit with a scout? Ok bungie.

Exotic quest more like thorns from vanilla destiny or the sword quests. Im so down. Making exotic so easy to get takes away their value. People used to literally scream and cry with joy when getting certain exotics now it oh cool I got it well into the vault with you

1 ReplyExotics should only ever be attainable by nightfall, raid or trials. Or by a hard quest line similar to black spindle. No exotic engrams, no 3oC. You want (what was suppose to be) the best gear in game? Work for it! This coming from a year 1 hunter doing the thorn quest with only a blue fusion rifle. Hard but so worth it.

also, swords. not even exotic swords, remember how it was a big deal in the old game to even get a purple sword? good times: there is a sort of very special evil laugh that I laugh, and my clan-mates are instantly like, "good lord, Unkie picked up Heavy and he's got a sword and so many Guardians are about to die" (and then yes the multi-stage grind to earn exotic swords, which I really liked that format) ((and then yes, Lord Salad-Tongs started handing out a free exotic sword to anyone who was willing to pay :( )) but now? almost everyone gets a green sword for free just in the middle of the very first story on Titan. (which I thought was hilarious and I think I was one of the first to post about it and ppl were like "zomfgwtfbbq no way!" lol!) and then the blue swords start dropping like sweet, sweet candy, not to mention the purple sword we all get if we pre-ordered or whatever. hmm I think that may be the only complaint I have about the new weapon class system, I can't have a sword and a fusion (or a Lord of the Dance, lol) at the same time.

Problem would arrive when you got your exotic and it turned out to be 💩 like most other exotics in this game, gone are the days of Tolesto Mythocast and Gjallahorn.

Ok, my point is there should be exotics that need to be earned through hard challenges. Surely if they did implement this in the future, the challenges would be more well thought out than the 30 seconds it took me to create the original post.
