With all the most recent controversy about lootboxes, because of games like Battlefront 2 and Shadow of War, it’s pretty safe to say that lootboxes as a system have had a spotlight shone on them. People are finally starting to protest this scummy practice on a much larger scale. I’m fairly certain that the UK is even going so far as to take a full legal investigation to see if it should be regulated as gambling or not.
There’s a petition right now for ESRB to redefine what gambling is in its eyes, and the more signatures the better! Keep the pressure on them!

Here is a novel thought. Don't buy them

Edited by MC_3_TTV: 10/20/2017 5:20:47 PMtbh I'd rather games cost more (~ $70 USD) but have no micro transactions and free dlc
-
How some people don't care is beyond me. AAA games are becoming just like those crappy pay to win games on mobile devices.
-
At this point, I'm too jaded to care (I complained about this shit from the get go and was always met with moronic responses, now suddenly people care? Whatever) but I signed it anyways. What's with that sorry argument going around that without loot boxes, games wouldn't be 60$? Like, the -blam!-, -blam!-?
-
If the ESRB considers loot boxes a form of gambling, they could have those games rated AO. Almost all stores refuse to sell those rated games.

Edited by PhreshBrotha: 10/22/2017 11:21:50 PMThe only issue I see with removing MTs and loot boxes, and it’s a big issue, is that games will increase in price. Removing MTs could make games go from $60 USD to possibly $80 - $100 overnight. This is why so many devs make “Legendary Editions” that cost more than $60 We haven’t seen a price increase in games in like what, 2 generations now? While DLCs can make money, they also cost money to make, so MTs are cheap alternative to make more money. The beautiful thing about MTs is that they are optional. Of course you could argue that MTs create a “Pay-To-Win” system, but again they are optional. Personally, I don’t like MTs, I’m old school. I miss the days when the best way to win a game with ease was by using cheat codes. You never really se those in games anymore. But despite my dislike of MTs, I understand that they have a purpose

Loot boxes ain’t gambling, bro. If they want to slap a sticker on the box that says a game contains in app purchases, then fine. It’s not gonna stop publishers from shoving them into their games.
-
I don't think the ESRB controls that. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they only exist to tell parents if a game isn't good for children
-
Shadow of wars loot boxes aren’t even bad. You don’t need a single one to get through the game
-
Signed along with 3 other people I threatened if they didn't sign it.
-
Signed cuz why not
-
Please do, so they can raise the price of gaming / crack down on pirating so the welfare queens can move onto another hobby.
-
Bump for awareness
-
Cool to see the number go up and up

I know it's hurting the industry, but with the way these companies are so greedy, I won't expect it to change. The microtransaction temptation doesn't get to me so I'm fine with it.
-
Shadow of War is a bad example. I shouldn't need to tell you why if you've played the game
-
Edited by Handsome Jack: 10/20/2017 8:50:50 PMSigned it!
i did not hit her, I did not
Bump the hell out of this
-
Bump. This needs as much attention as possible
-
I like how I can see the numbers go up when I click the link. I'm glad this petition seems to be getting some attention.
-
I'm just waiting for them to become a problem before I care enough
-
Meh, i don't care enough about loot boxes to be bothered.
-
do i HAVE to put my real name?
