Something is off with Destiny 2

I don't know what it is exactly, but you guys broke the spell somehow. The gameplay is the same, though a bit slower feeling due to requirement of stacking mobility to achieve D1 speeds. The weapons and abilities are either just as good or more interesting. The visuals are solid, music, voices, etc.... all good. But for some reason, I don't feel like playing. PvP is still hot garbage. I always disliked PvP for one reason alone - latency issues. The inconsistency of it drives me mad. When I am playing a round of PvP and the time it takes to kill my opponents varies widely between all members of the opposing team, it can be confusing and exhausting. In the same match, I will have one guy who can seemingly kill me in two shots, his teammate who somehow magically takes twice as long to kill as everyone else, one guy who seems ok and the last one will be warping around and dying to my bullets 4 seconds after he kills me. PvP is way too frustrating for me to enjoy, so that is definitely a turn-off. And no, its not MY internet that's causing issues. It is your garbage method of hosting p2p instead of dedicating servers. BF1 is a way more consistent experience. Loot changed a lot in D2. The vendors associated with each zone were a nice addition and paired well with the token scheme. The problems I am having recently revolve mostly around the RNG of it all. Tokens are great, but they need to feel rewarding. If the engrams reward duplicates over and over, or never ever ever give me the one item I am really interested in... the whole system falls apart. Fix the RNG and stop trying to control the drop rates like they must be trickle-fed as if we are all playing video poker. This is a game where gear is supposed to matter and if you withhold an item that I believe is needed to achieve my goals, I will stop playing. So I think those are the two negative things happening in both PvP and PvE which are turning me away from Destiny. I hope you can find some way of fixing one or both in the near future.

The weapons and abilities are just as good or more interesting? Haha, that's basically where you're going wrong.... The weapons are terrible, the legendary ones have less perks than D1 blue weapons!

    •
The weapons and abilities are either just as good or more interesting.
LOL, no. Even with all the other good points in your post, I have no choice but to downvote you for this one line. There is no weapon that is half as interesting as anything in Destiny 1 (except Mida, but...). Abilities, really? The skill tree is Lego Videogame trash. Two of the most interesting abilities from Destiny 1 have been ruined. They turned Sunsingers into Hammer Bros. They took away my Titan Bubble (mostly, they let me have a weak version of it without the buffs that made it cool). Nope. Can't have Bungie thinking they did a good job on these things. That is some of the worst game design any game has seen in years.

      • Did u just find this out? Here's what happened. A very reputable and loved company that put out an amazing product, made a deal with a greedy company that makes child's games, and they are some of the best marketing and hype people in the business. They convinced some of us twice, and once they got the money, they don't care, and they will rinse and repeat every cash grab, or some will call it a DLC.

          • When i play d2 i see attempts to recreate halo. Granted now we can level for whatever good that does. This game has so many moments that i saw and said, "where have I seen this before?" Halo 1 and 2 had the drive to freedom mission. The obligatory tank mission. Its like bungie was trying to recreate the feel of its glory days without having to put in the work. They took the space magic part of the game and nerfed it into the ground. I shouldnt be surprised but i am. Because bungie fed me hope. And it feels like i am getting a halo knock off but without any substance.

                  • I shard more weapons than I ever did in D1. Static perks are trash (though I do like static stats). Plus the perks aren't that good. Exotics feel like legendaries. The mod system is bare bones. They should've stuck with Int/Dis, etc instead of the mobility and recovery. I do enough PVP to get call to arms and have never done a strike outside nightfall (minus the ones you needed to unlock it)

There is something very wrong about unloading The Forward Path (Iron Banner Auto-rifle for those who don't know) into someone's face and not killing them, while they are killing you in what appears to be two or three shots. Or people literally 'teleporting' around. Other than when my Fire-Team want to play Crucible for the weekly milestone, I don't bother with it. It simply isn't fun, in addition to it being terribly unbalanced.

D2 is a very shallow grind, you can hit level cap pretty fast, which is fine with me, I don't mind that part. The part that bothers me is that there's a large portion of the game that is practically pointless once you've hit a high enough level. I have never played a normal strike outside of unlocking the nightfall. Literally everything you do provides almost no benefit to progression unless it's a weekly milestone. Plenty of fun things to do, just no reason to do them. Go to any planet or strikes and grind it, you get tokens, pass in your tokens for gear that's lower than your level, dismantle it (unless it's something you want/never had), get gunsmith parts, take to gunsmith, get more things lower than your level, dismantle for more parts, and continue the cycle until you've cleaned your inventory, wasn't that fun? Not really. Destiny has the same problem that Destiny 1 had for the longest time, relevant content. Not lack of content mind you, but how relevant current content is. D1 for the longest time had plenty of things to do, but those things just didn't give you any gear the helped progress your level or character after you got so far and after each expansion. But you could customize your character more based on random rolls where everything was at least something you'd investigate to see if the stats were better for your build. They fixed this eventually where leveling up vendors gave you packages that would actually progress your character in light or be on par if you were level cap (and you still had the option to buy things from them at a locked light level). D2 now has this problem again that they had already fixed, every single vendor after a certain point will always give you something 5-10 power below your level, everything has fixed perks so there's no real customizing. After that point you need to rely on the weekly luminous engrams. For someone like me who is stuck at 304, needs one chest piece to hit cap, gets everything at 294 (even exotics), and can't get it from luminous engrams for some reason is just stuck. If I could hit level cap I would at least have reason to go to other planets and grind for the rare opportunity that a vendor is offering 300 engrams and be able to level up the rest of my gear. But as it stands now there is nothing for me to do besides wait until reset on tuesday, be disappointed, and have to wait again, just like I did in D1 vanilla. Only place I will disagree is weapons/abilities. Some abilities are a bit more interesting, like the warlock being able to charge his grenade or consume it is really cool. But there's no customizing subclasses, you pick one group of 4 abilities or the other, why can't I mix and match? Also the guns... man... you can't even compare to D1 legends like VoC and Fatebringer, Fang, Gally, Icebreaker etc. Guns that were from vanilla that are still some of the best guns in Destiny to this day.

you got pay another 50$ bucks to get the real version, that how it feels. so stupid they do not even got 40$ worth content in destiny 2. and i pay 140$ a year for a sub game. and each month content updates there dlc, and ever 3 months is 20 dollar expansion , and ever year and half they got the 30$ expansion that 3/4 the size of the normal game , plus all other expansion for new players auto get the newest expansion once they pay for it , so no straglers .so entire community all on same page, once newest expansion out all old one everyone gets , and newest on all can still get gear and stuff but the newest dungeons gear and raid, and few minor stuff

                      • Agreed. I don't even feel like completing milestones. What's the point? It's just going to be a not-fun experience for no reward at the end. It was fun being powerful in PVE but we're not powerful anymore. It's fun to get a competitive PVP match, it's never a fair fight because of ping. Loot was fun, but there's no loot. "Loot" implies something meaningful worth working toward. Nothing in Destiny 2 fits that description. It's just a gimmick that D2 happens to deliver all the gear to you in "drops" instead of just unlocking everything for you as you go. Nothing makes you more powerful. This meta is a tepid pool of spit.

Lag and latency are alive and well in crucible. When you get shot and die from one bullet from Uriels gift, you know it's broke. That plus being team shot into the ground, makes for zero fun experience

                      • some very good work to express the frustration of pvp... some will swear that this is simply due to perception - that in fact some of those people are just better shots than you are, and that this accounts for all of the difference you describe. personally, I completely agree with your account. If the difference really is one of aim, then the visual feedback systems need serious tweaking to make this apparent.

So the lousy players look at what the premier players are using. And go buy it with micro transactions.there are threads in explaining it. A new low for gaming. Will never buy another activision game again.

                          • It's missing the big boy items. It's missing the, o wow I really want that weapon, this is what I need to do, I'm going to do everything I can to get it. Once you have it, there's another gun that's just to enticing not to farm for. Everything in d2 has been handed to us, and all the weapons feel lack luster. Wheres the feeling of getting the fatebringer, walking back into vog, and making the vex regret ever messing with you? That for me was the best part of destiny. Trying over and over to complete difficult content, then getting a game changing item that makes the encounter seem easier, and helping others get this great thing that you have got. Bring back the chase bungie, we need our fate bringers!
