The Malicious Moral Intent of Iron Banner in Destiny 2

I'll lay this out straight. I've been playing Destiny since the Alpha, it was a game that floored me to get a Playstation 4 back when i was in college/art school. I've poured nothing but love and appreciation into this game. Particularly the design aspect and spectacular artwork all throughout the series ( being a professional illustrator and graphic designer myself ) is something that always kept my interest more so than other titles. Im also quite competitive, and do enjoy a challenge. With that being said, I don't not mind the grind to achieve something really nice and worthy of the time and effort spent. I've always had 3 characters, one of each class, and I've participated in every Iron Banner so far. Not only that, the endless hours and "packages" have rewarded me accordingly. That is, until now. As a designer, I was captivated by the Armor of this first Iron Banner event. Anxiously waiting to collect all I could. Little did I know, 44 reward packages later from "tokens" I would not even have a full set of armor for even 1 character. 44 Packages. 880 tokens. Endless hours and time take off of things in my life. With nothing to show for it. Iron Banner doesn't reward you, it just passionlessly grants a lucky winner their desire like a retired grandmother at a slot machine. Out of all the packages, I received 6 total arms/gauntlets 5 Chest pieces, 5 Boots, 2 class items, a handful of guns here and there. Mostly duplicates. and ONE HELMET. ONE. HLEMET. This is a broken system, and I am incredibly dissatisfied and above all disappointed in the lack of proper reward system for this game. My guess would just be to keep it consistent with the other "token" systems with vendors, but when things are this exclusive and also quite difficult and time consuming to earn said tokens, it feels like a slot machine. Just stealing what little life and time I have left as I rot away on a bar stool made of tokens. This is concerning, because Im sure players have voiced their opinion in various ways since the start. And how ill-prepared this system is. But now I really get the impression that since no effort was made to increase or fix loot dropping in this first Iron Banner, that it shows this company's true colors. As we've seen in other ways before. I don't consider myself oblivious or naive to this daunting feeling of an industry and empire discarding what us, the consumers, want. But maybe after this I'm a little more cold hearted. And it's time to just play this flawed game only on occasion. I see everyone else voicing their opinions, so i wanted to leave mine as well. I feel cheated, and falsely encouraged to grind for things practically unachievable and not promised. False advertising just to suck out playtime from us. Feel free to share your rewards from x number of packages. And duplicates. Because i've lost count of how many of those useless grenade launchers i've dismantled. Im also aware of the countless changes they've made to this game in effort to fix things over the years for the benefit of everyone. So i'm not just pointing fingers with ill expectations. -Sincerely A concerned and cheated Guardian.

    • This post is well written and expresses my concerns, and my level of frustration after a very similar experience with the first months of D 2. There are common threads though all the criticism Bungie. We are devoted fans across a spectrum of millions, and we all love your product. You are one of the most talented development teams money can buy, so brew a lot of coffee and right your ship. You owe it to us, but if you take us for granted we'll move on. It's tough love.
