CUPHEAD - FMFL

Throwing humility out the window, I'm pretty damn good at games. I've played through the entirety of the Souls series, with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne included, and done challenge runs such as BL7/SL1 and Broken Straight Sword Only. I've beaten Wolfenstein, both the New Order and the Old Blood, on the permadeath difficulty (planning to do the same with The New Collosus). I've beaten Horizon Zero Dawn on Ultra Hard. Sadly, LASO runs allude me as I don't have a reliable team, and the only one I've even started was ODST. Even then, Oni Alpha Site is practically unbeatable. But this game called Cuphead opened a can of whupass I didn't even know I was keeping on the shelf. I keep on telling myself that I'm just not used to 2D plat forming games, or that World 2 is my Achilles Heel as Curse-Rotted Greatwood was in DS3. Maybe that bullethell isn't my thing, although I've beaten Enter The Gungeon and Furi. But I know that I'm lying. This game is, at least for me, impossible. I've died 457 times thus far with a good 10 hours in the game and I'm still only a quarter of the way through Isle 2. I managed to somehow beat Djimmi after 2 hours of trial and error, locked in a steaming hot room, covered in sweat, listening to the Prog Rock Spotify playlist. But I've hit a huge concrete wall in my progression. Beppi is just too hard to keep up with. The only fire modes I have this far are Peashooter, Roundabout, and Lobber, but I really need Spread to kill this demented asswipe clown. The animals are really stressful to deal with, and I keep on getting trapped under the horses. Baroness Von Bon Bon... Fuсk this bitch. The candy corn in particular is horrifically difficult, and everything gets worse in Phase Three, when you have to deal with the miniboss, gumdrop warriors, and the Baroness shooting cotton candy at you. If I even get past this and fight the Baroness herself I'm already at one health. Plus, when you get her down to Phase 4, her head is so difficult to dodge consistency and her peppermint is impossible to parry off of. Have I also mentioned, at least for me, SHE'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DAMAGE IN PHASE 4? I DO THE KAMEOMEO WAVE SUPER ON HER AND THE BAR DOESN'T BUDGE. Grim Matchstick is somehow, for me, the easiest of them to deal with. His first two phases are a cakewalk, especially when using Lobber. It's just that last phase that gets me. I always get caught too close to the dragons and the fireballs always split and evaporate my health bar. So, yeah. I'm stuck. Bon Bon is a сunt, Beppi can suck my dick, and Grim Matchstick is annoying af. Finna kill myself

  • It is tough but worth it once you get the hang of the level. Yes you will die more than 10x but let me tell you, afterwards you will definitely throw a victory fit.

  • The story of Cuphead was written before it was released. Gorgeous but frustrating gameplay.

It is an extraordinarily tough title. I guess all I can do is give you my suggestions: Beppi: Phase 1: Peashooter, plus an occasional jump to get the ducks. Keep your distance and jump over him as he comes at you. Should take three goes. Phase 2: Spreader is great here, fan it around above you to take out the dogs, then pour hot pink spikes into his face once it's all clear. Phase 3: can be pretty tricky with the train, you've just got to play it safe. Focus on dodging the train and horseshoes, pour more pink fury into him from beneath when it's clear but otherwise Peashooter potshots and supers should be k. Phase 4: keep jumping and use the Spreader for maximum AoE. Baroness: Candy corn has a relatively predictable pattern, so just try to follow that. Obviously keep an eye out for his mini-mes. I agree the fourth phase can be nightmarish. Don't have a great deal of advice but to keep moving, but try your ultimate if you get the chance. You have to be on top of the floating sweet for it to work, because her castle doesn't take damage. I managed to nail Grim last night, after like a week of trying. Phew. Grab the Charge Shot if you can, helped me a lot. No damage required when dodging, just hold the trigger, and release when you get a moment.

    • With the Baroness on last phase the bar not moving at all is a glitch. And btw you can bounce off the wheel looking thing the castle shoots at ya by parrying. Phase 3 idk what I could say to help ya. R.I.P.

    • To be fair you really cant compare dark souls games to games like cuphead. The two games are completely different sets of skills. Cuphead is a lot more like a combat platformer, which dark souls most definitely is not. So i wouldnt beat yourself up about it to much.

    • Yes the baroness it says I don't deal any damage no matter what I do. Must be a bug. Yeah this game is ridiculously difficult. I don't think I'll ever beat it. I'm going to go back to it once in awhile. Can't beat any boss on the second island.

    • You know what's sad? My 11 year old daughter plays Cuphead on her XBOX, but I'm too scared to buy it. It looks hard AF, not going to lie.

    • Look, I felt the rage while playing this. I filmed every second I played by the way as proof: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvQuy_Dp8kIzoKch_VTFRR8ZVSrGUFXet. But the game is far from impossible. I struggled mostly with the bee and King Dice eventually overcoming them both. All the advice I can give aside from watching others’ walkthrough of the fights is to not fret over parrying. More often than not you’ll fudge it up taking damage instead. Also don’t give any f-ucks about score. Just be in it to win it. Try alternating charms and weapons as well. I too felt like quitting. Who wins in that case though? If you’re not having any fun it’s obviously not worth it. Play because you WANT to, not cause you HAVE to. I originally thought King Dice was going to be an impasse but I watched GT Live do it on their second...? try so I played forward then found a means to win. Feel free to watch my playthrough to see I was in the same boat. No, I’m not trying to self promote by the way, I just want to help.

Are you using the smoke bomb charm? That is easily the best charm in the whole game for most circumstances. I couldn't have beat a single boss (besides the airplane level ones and a few of the first bosses) without it.

You just gotta learn attack patterns and where the safe spots are on each stage. Also I’d recommend getting Smoke Bomb as that makes many bosses 10 times easier to deal with

      •
Beppi is just too hard to keep up with. The only fire modes I have this far are Peashooter, Roundabout, and Lobber, but I really need Spread to kill this demented asswipe clown. The animals are really stressful to deal with, and I keep on getting trapped under the horses.
I would recommend getting Chaos Orbit before spread. Tips for Beppi.
For Beppi's first phase all you gotta do is jump over him & use a dash, whenever he rushes you. Jump occasionally to shoot the lightbulb ducks, too, but other than that just whale on with the Pea Shooter. On his second phase, immediately go to the middle of the arena and fire straight up. Once the roller coaster comes it'll take some fast footwork but since you don't have Chaos Orbit, just focus completely on dodging. Once the roller coaster passes, shoot straight up from the middle again. With Chaos Orbit, this beats this phase before the second coaster. Without it, I'd assume before the third. On his next phase is where you'll probably have the most trouble, but the same principle as phase 2 should work in theory. Focus entirely on dodging when the coaster's there, shoot straight up at him when it's not. If I'm being honest though, I relied entirely on Chaos Orbit here. On the next phase I don't remember too much difficulty. It's similar to Grim's 2nd phase with a much easier to hit target. I remember using the Pea Shooter, but can't remember any of the specific attacks.

Have I also mentioned, at least for me, SHE'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DAMAGE IN PHASE 4? I DO THE KAMEOMEO WAVE SUPER ON HER AND THE BAR DOESN'T BUDGE.

For the Candy Corn use Smoke Bomb if you can, and dash through him rather than jump over him. Pea Shooter works just fine. For the Gumball Machine stay on the left side of the arena, and just keep shooting, adjusting your position when need be. Even on phase 3, you should be able to dodge pretty easily here. For the Jawbreaker, use the levitating platform to move in a circle around him. He's the hardest to fight on phase 3 imo. Ideally, you'll get Jawbreaker first, then Gumball, then Candy Corn. That was the easiest for me, anyway. For phase 2, the Jellybeans come out on a fairly regular basis. They can screw you over if you don't notice them, or if you get unlucky with attacks, but over all, they're usually easy to dodge with a jump. For phase 3, the cotton candy can be shot to destroy it, so if you're able, do so. Otherwise, it moves in a straight line, so you can usually predict when it's going to hit you, and dodge accordingly, with a Smoke Bomb or jump. For the final phase, stay on the green platform whenever possible. Only attacks on the Baroness herself affect her, not the castle, so make sure you aim accordingly. I'd recommend using Super II if you have access to it, if not, see the bottom spoiler. The heads will dash at you on pretty regular intervals, and then vanish. Usually there's a brief moment with 2 heads, which is when I'd use your super. If possible, an effective method of dodging is dropping to the floor, when they dash, back onto the platform, and jump when they dash again. I used Chaos Orbit here, but I'd imagine Roundabout would hit her pretty well.

Grim Matchstick is somehow, for me, the easiest of them to deal with. His first two phases are a cakewalk, especially when using Lobber. It's just that last phase that gets me. I always get caught too close to the dragons and the fireballs always split and evaporate my health bar.

Lobber makes quick work of his first two phases. In his first phase, try to stay near the rear of the screen, so when the tail comes you can move up to the middle. In each "wave" of fireballs, they always alternate (except for doubles). If you can keep track of yourself, try jumping over the top of the screen when facing an upper fireball. His second phase was easiest for me. The little fire guys will jump at you. Jump but don't change platforms until they're gone, and it should be easy, if you whale on him with the Lobber. In his final phase, you'll want Super II if you can get it. If not, just don't use your super. His fireballs are pretty easy to dodge, as ling as you don't shoot them. This mkes them split four way. When the middle head is getting ready to breathe fire, go up or down if you can, if not, then use the invincibility frames of your super.
Final note;
There's a shortcut behind the mountains near Grim, that'll let you get behind the Baroness' fight. There's another boss back here, who I find to be the easiest on the entire island, and beating him will let you reach the cathedral where you can find Super II before beating Grim or Bon Bon. I might be mistaken, but I believe there's also a run & gun level back here, so you can get enough coins to buy Chaos Orbit, making Beppi & Bon Bon a lot easier.
I wish you luck! I was stuck there, just a day or two ago!
