Solution for Grind, Balance, and Fun

This may end up being less epic than it sounded before typing, but I had a random idea to try to solve some of the issues being brought up about D2's fun-ness level vs. D1. What if Bungie made a Competitive Crucible Vendor who sells exclusive gear. The gear can consist of weapons, amour, etc already in the game, and can continue to have fixed roles and perks. It should be easy to obtain at least a starting set, and then you can potentially grind for more passed that, or not. Then, they make this the only gear you are allowed to use in competitive play. So you can use this gear anywhere, but if you want to go into comp, you need to have a full competitive loadout of your choice. If you don't, it can lock you out until you equip the right gear. Once in comp you should only be able to select other gear from the competitive 'pool' of gear you have access to/ on your guardian. That way they can balance the crap out of those 'exclusive' weapons and armour, and then they can revert to making fun gameplay for the rest of the game, and re-introduce random gun rolls (not allowed in competitive play) etc. It might also add another element of 'thought' into building an ideal comp. guardian. As evidence that this might work; I don't think anyone minded when some legendaries in D1 had 'locked' rolls. I feel this is because they were contextually locked. Ironically, it made them special instead of in D2 where every gun seems... dull? Yes, quickplay might get a little 'unbalanced', but I'd think this might open up more possibilities for PVE and PVP in the long run, in both Quickplay and Competitive. Furthermore, I feel it may give the whole game some of the breathing room it needs (and has needed since D1 IMO), without completely separating PVE and PVP, which would be plenty more work I'm sure. While grind/ gear rolls would be the first thing 'solved' by this suggestion, I think other balance changes might crop up as a lovely result in PVE and PVP. This would also, in a way, double the loot pool already in the game as a neat side note. Other points: - Raid loot should have raid specific perks else what's the point. - Nightfall timers should be optional for a chance at additional loot, even if it's just the chance to get one/ two more engrams, or extra XP as a reward. - Love you bungo, but I was kinda expecting at least a new enemy race or two, and a new element type like acid or ice etc for the game to feel a bit more like a 'sequel'. - If the concern is that casual players will now have to work more to collect all the loot, I'd like to point out that most of my casual friends don't play for the loot, they play and move on when they are bored, regardless of their level of completion. Anyway, might be a dull idea, but what do you all think? TL;DR Bring back random rolls etc but create a vendor to sell the current gear from D2 with the current locked rolls. Then, have that 'exclusive' gear be the only gear allowed in competitive play.
