Lore-Backed Faction-Rally Rant

What Dead Orbit fails to realize is that if you leave the Traveler, you will become what the Fallen are to the Eliksni. Accept it will have been entirely voluntary. No one to blame but themselves. Dead Orbit's ideology is not to bite the hand that feeds it, but to cowardly run away from it. No one should reasonably be supporting Dead Orbit. Need more evidence? Lets look at it from a practical perspective. Dead Orbit is justifiably fearful of the dangers the traveler unintentionally attracts. No one is denying that there arent any dangers. Now decide for yourself which is better: to allow that which would kill you and all you hold dear to claim your Traveler, consequently severing your connection to the light, and to force you all into hiding for the rest of existence; OR would you rather prevent the bad guys from doing that, save the Traveler, and possibly relive the Golden Age.  Ya I don't know either. Real tough decision here.  "But Parallax... were all gonna die if we don't run away!!"  You're an idiot. Allow me to explain: we can assume that so long as there is a chance, however slim, that the Light prevails; then there is a parallel universe correspondent with that chance. And since there are infinite parallel universes, there must be an infinite number of timelines we survive. We could EASILY be one of those universes.

Simulator Plate "In this vision we are victorious. In this vision also. And this one. And this." —RECORD 115-CHASM-8991

"But Parallax... HOW could we possibly know what to do??"  Well little boy, considering we have the technology to literally simulate other timelines and shape our own as we see fit, I think the answer should be pretty obvious. Take a look:

Simulator Gauntlets "As in the other timelines we examined, where the simulation includes our intervention, the City survives. Where it does not, well..." —RECORD 116-CHASM-0064

Listen, if you couldn't tell already, I'm a Future War Cult man. Have been my whole life; and I'm not saying that fighting will be easy or safe. Like in all War, there will be casualties. But it is a price we must pay if we are to survive.

Simulator Gloves "I see a submerged Earth. I see humanity in crude boats, battered, drifting. I see them fight what rises from the deeps. Fight and win." —RECORD 463-CHASM-3102

Aside from that being a really interesting piece of flavor text (and something I will discuss further some other time), it's also a prime example of what I've been saying from the beginning; that humanity can win. Whatever comes, we just need to be ready. JOIN THE FUTURE WAR CULT TODAY, PREVENT THE TRAGEDIES OF TOMORROW.

 • I find problems with all of the philosophies now over before except NM's hasn't changed. War Cult, had they truly been prepared for war, would have assisted us with their stockpiles of weapons to take back the city. Dead orbit, now that the traveler is alive, has no legitimate reason to permanently leave. If their ideals switched more to creating colonies out in the solar system, it'd work. But now, the traveler hasn't left them and they have no reason to abandon it. New monarchy still sits on the stupid basis that a monarchy would actually work here. I suppose they're trying to fill a gap where the speaker once was, however establishing a monarchy still is and will forever be dumb and ineffective in a world of super powerful guardians with space magic.

 • I'm pretty sure 90~95% of the community don't give a -blam!- about the lore of the factions (and bungie really doesn't either since it's so shallow and poorly thought out). The general community just likes the shaders, and remembers that DO had most of the better weapons from D1.

 • honestly, the mission statements of all three factions are pretty lame and not well thought out. for a game that likes to borrow from classic literature they could have ripped off some way better reasons for factions to exist

 • The whole "we looked and saw infinite parallel worlds where we win" argument is self defeating. There are then under your own logic, infinite worlds where Dead Orbit is correct to run away. There are also infinite worlds where New Monarchy is correct to do whatever its trying to do. That is what infinite means.
