Critical Feedback, however not all negative

So let me just start by saying I think Destiny 2 is a much more refined and enjoyable game than the first. Graphics gorgeous, new Power & stat system better for the most part than it's previous iteration of light levels. Strikes fun engaging and stepped it up a notch ( I thought the first games strikes were fantastic, however the new ones seem like they were taken up a notch, well done bungie ). Now for the hopefully semi constructive criticism. I am very displeased with the new soft caps that are seemingly in place. You start the game and at a steady pace progress through levels, and ascend in power as well. You hit your first soft cap seemingly at power level 265 ( at least in my experience ), then again around 280 ( however less severe than the first), and once again the 290's even softer of a cap. Then you hit 300 where you are lucky, VERY LUCKY if powerful gear drops, nightfalls, or raid actually drop you relevant gear. Which I get, you don't want everyone and their kids to hit cap and complain about lack of content in end game. While this game is very enjoyable to play ( especially the gun play ), the many hours of grinding at certain points just seems worthless.. on top of that nightfalls and the raid scaling to your personal power level, creates a sense of never truly ascending in power.. This has at least for me brought the question of "Why grind for more powerful gear when enemies just scale to it. Never really becoming stronger, just able to do the higher power level activities." I love that public events and patrol areas scale making the planets seem always a little challenging and worth playing on. However I don't think raids and nightfalls should scale. That way when I'm done grinding through three to four soft caps and I have earned myself some pretty powerful gear, I get a sense of wonder and like the journey was worth it leading to a grander gaming experience at higher level. The second largest drawback to the soft caps is my larger complaint. Because of these walls you hit, causing you to incessantly grind through. My wife who works and go to school doesn't even wish to play anymore. She gets on only three or four hours sometimes, and in all those moments she steals away to play your game she jumps maybe one power level every two to three play sessions. It really seems a system punishing those that work and have busy lives, those who can't spend many hours every day breaking through these soft caps. I myself would not have bought this game, it was her that you sold a copy to, her the bigger fan. Yet it is her you lose as a player and a customer with this system. It is unfortunate because it begins to lose me as well. I believe the previous progression system worked a bit better, you may have had fans with no real life grinding their way to the highest level to quickly. However now those without time, just simply can't hit higher levels. The infusion system I think is great, it is just the soft caps. Getting lower engrams, and rewards from everyone that are at least 5-10 power levels below what you are at the time that kills it. I hope this changes in the future. That all being said I believe Destiny 2 is a huge step in the right direction, and I hope you all at bungie are proud of the game you made.It is great and I hope you all keep up this good work. Best wishes your Bungie fan KubatheLost.

  • Hi there. You made a fine point about hitting that invisible wall, but in D1 it was worse. Playing raid was the only way to get to higher light level and you don't always get raid gears. It was a disaster in the beginning where purple engram turned out to be green and blue. D2 had improved a lot.
