Daybreak Wars Ch. 3: Dinner in the City

We sat around in a lounge chamber, once occupied by the original Iron Lords, doing practically nothing. I was throwing knives at a target, and pulling them free, repeatedly; Colt was too busy being himself to be any help. Doc was pestering Blake, trying to reason with him and get his neurotoxins back; I did not want to know what Doc did this time. Monica sat on Kourtney's shoulder while they read a book together. Dakota was scrubbing his Red Spectre auto rifle clean, like he did regularly. "It looks as good as--of death--!" T.C. declared as he inspected the weapon. "Can't get any better than that, am I right, Traffic Cone?" Colt said sarcastically. 'Traffic Cone' was Colt's newfound nickname for Dakota's ghost because of his orange and white shell. T.C. spun around and faced my ghost. "With some time and careful thought, I believe I am on board with your--of death--..." I halted from throwing another knife and turned my attention to the ghosts. "Normally, I have a fairly good idea about what you're trying to say, but I'm gonna need some context..." Colt replied, clearly confused. "I'm sorry. I was--of death--to say that I was on board with your murder..." T.C. stated. "Okay... That esculated quickly," I said while getting back into rhythm of throwing my knives. "But, I could learn to live without a ghost..." "Colton, have you considered donating your Light to science upon your death?..." Doc asked while flying over. "What 'science' are you planning?" Monica asked. "It's better to avoid asking questions like that," Blake interjected. "With my research on the Taken, I have come up with a theory of making synthetic 'Light', and Colton's Light might prove useful..." Doc said to Monica. "One, my name is 'Colt', not 'Colton'..." "Two, that's my Light!" I exclaimed. "Didn't you just state you could learn to live without the Light?" Blake asked. "Well, I..." I spoke sheepishly and shrugged my shoulders. "And face the reality, Alan. Upon Colton's death, your own passing would only be inevitable..." Doc replied. "...That's a comforting thought..." I replied. "On that note, would you also be willing to donate your body to science?..." Doc asked as he held two pieces of his shell like he was begging. "After my death, right?" I asked. "Not necessarily, but if that makes you feel more comfortable with the idea..." Blake's ghost said after thinking for a moment. "I'm gonna go with 'no'..." I replied. Doc sighed. "I need more compliant test subjects..." "Wait. I thought only the Traveler can produce Light..." Kourtney said while sitting up. "Despite being the children of the Traveler, we ghosts only know as much about the Light as the next Guardian..." Doc said to the huntress. "But in the same manner as you give your Light to revive one another, theoretically, I could produce a weaker substitute for Light that give civilians lesser powers: strength, health regeneration, and so on," the medic ghost continued to explain his latest project. "Wait, so if I die... Alan is coming with me?..." Colt asked. "Take me now!" He expanded his shell with emphasis as he exclaimed. "Ah, so you are eager to participate?" Doc asked while flying over, turning a piece of his shell into a syringe. "Whoa! H*** no! Get your needle-nosed self away!" Colt shouted. "Can we get some dinner?" I asked to change the subject. "The City has some ramen noodle shop that's not too bad..." Everyone looked around, trying to decide. As we strolled down the City, I accidentally bumped into someone. "Sorry," I said quickly. "Eh, it's no problem," the man turned around and looked us over. "Oh hey! The Wolf Pack!" He exclaimed. "I remember them!" Exclaimed a peppy camouflaged ghost. I stood there silently, trying to figure out who they were. So was the rest of Wolf Pack. The man hit his palm to his head, playing foolish for our benefit. "Oh sorry... Edward Hayes, of ARC..." "Oh yeah! You guys helped us back in Tau'la," Blake said next. "I haven't seen your fireteam in the Tower roster for some time..." "Yeah. Ed thought it would be a good idea to stay in Tau'la with King Ta'Chal... It was very boring; nothing happened other than us helping rebuild their kingdom..." Gale Burke said as she stepped around Edward. "Weeell, there was that one incident..." Edward started. "No, that didn't happen... We don't speak of that..." Gale said, cutting off her husband. Edward rolled his eyes, then looked back at us. "So, how's City life?..." the hunter asked. We all looked at each other; the last year or so had been interesting, to say the least. "We're heading to get some dinner if you care to join us. We could catch you up then," Dakota said to the trio. After dabbing a napkin to his lips, Edward said to us: "It seems any Hive would try to claim the Dreadnought now. It's quite the fortress..." He was referring to Dakota's account of the Shattered Sun Hive that tried to take the ship. "Yeah..." I said somberly; that was a rough time for us. "Then, I got lost in the Plaguelands for a few weeks after that... So, once again I was away from the team..." "I'm sorry, what's the Plaguelands?" Gale asked. "It was a part of the Cosmodrome, but entry was denied until nanotechnology called 'SIVA' got loose. You could probably find more information about it in Tower archives now," I replied. "We had to fight this bird-brained warlock who thought she could start a SIVA Golden Age... That was fun..." Blake said sarcastically. The exo of ARC, Haxx-56, spit out his glass of motor oil. "You had to fight a warlock that transfered her mind with a bird?!" I slowly turned my head to Wolf Pack and stared at them with concern; Blake even recoiled slightly from the comment. Haxx leaned over and tapped Gale's shoulder. "Your associates perform rediculous experiments..." Edward dropped his head. "I thought we were done with this literal nonsense..." "Nonsense?! I asked a legitimate question; these Guardians are talking about a warlock with a bird's brain!" Haxx exclaimed. "We did fight alongside a Guardian that could fly..." I said. Haxx gestured to me to prove his point to Edward. "Was it the warlock?..." He asked after leaning forward, almost right in my face. "No," I said while shaking my head. "It was a titan...ess..." "Huh..." Haxx sounded mildly disappointed. "Organic lifeforms are absolutely absurd..." Edward hid his blushing, angry face in his palms and shook his head from side to side. Gale rubbed his back.
