As we continued on, we discussed what we should do once we got to the City. We decided to stop at the Grand Canyon, the one place left alone by the Collapse, and take in it's beauty, which could stay infinite for a million years. I thought about a trip I went on with my family in my first incarnation, before the chain of reincarnations begun, and my character was changed forever. It made me want to sit there for years, remembering every little good time I've had, and what will face me in the future. We eventually left and rode on in silence. After about an hour, we got to New Phoenix. It was past midnight. I noticed my fuel was low and told Axon about it. " My fuel is low, too. Alright, land in New Phoenix and we'll refuel," he said. We did exactly that. The ruins of New Phoenix were like much like Old Chicago. Rusty, littered with cars, and so on. When the Traveler touched the area, it became surrounded by plants and wildlife, but the rest of the desert was untouched, for the most part. The strangest thing about the area was that there were green crystals, and it smelled chalky. Every once in a while, I swear I could hear some type of faint shriek... We came across an oil shop, and we used the leftover fuel to refuel ourselves. "Axon, do you think there's someone - or something - out there? I swear that I can hear shrieks once in a while," I said. He looked at me and said, "Aye, I've been hearing them too." We moved on, and encountered a dark cave. Feeling bold, me and Axon went down. As we went on, the shrieks and amount of crystals increased. A past reincarnation was screaming something at me, but I couldn't hear it. As we approached a large chamber, I said, "I have a bad feeling about this." We entered the chamber. I realized what my reincarnation was saying. The shrieks and crystals were from the Hive. And we awoke them.
