The issue with current armor: New Pieces, New Drops, Exotics, and why they all feel irrelevant

Edit: I wrote a thread about A way I think that this could be solved using systems that already exist in game In Destiny, armor was a huge part of the end game. Not only did they have different appearances (at least once infusion was a thing) but each piece could be chosen for the purpose of making yourself more powerful in a particular part of the game. For instance, a single set of gauntlets could have multiple different ways to improve your gameplay: you could have one set of Marvaux Type 0 that would both reload pulse rifles faster, as well as give an option between throwing grenades further or getting bonus grenade energy on melee hits. A Raid raid armor piece like the Spliced Cosmoclast Gauntlets might have the same benefits, plus another situational PvE bonus that made them worth trying to get. All of this was on top of the bonuses to bring specific ability cooldowns lower and allow use of your favorite class defining abilities more often. In Destiny 2, those bonuses are gone. The only differences between armor now are cosmetics and whether you want to heal ever so slightly faster, run ever so slightly faster, or be able to withstand a tiny bit more damage. Even the raid gear has no special perks that make it worth chasing for easier raid completions later. There are now just a single mod slot for each piece, and those mods can go into any piece that fits that armor slot. This means that your armor is basically the same as every other piece of armor. Instead of chasing new drops that will be bascially identical to your current gear, you might as well just grind for glimmer to grab your favorite 5 armor mods. You can now choose 5 weaker versions of the reload speed perks, 5 weak versions of the Strength and Discipline stats (or cooldown reduction for the new class abilities), or a slight increase to weapon stability for one of your two primary weapon slots. Exotics are actually more significant in Destiny 2. While they tend to do less or be weaker than those of Destiny, they are now the only pieces of armor that have intrinsic perks. If you choose not to wear one, you are missing out on the only thing in the game that makes you different from the base model. That said, they are pretty easy to get (except the one that you want), and do not feel like you have been blessed with a great new opportunity upon receiving one. The way things are in Destiny 2 make chasing anything or making an effort seem like a waste of time, as no new gear that you get or anything that you do can make you feel more powerful. You can build up one single number to say which area you are qualified to go shoot some lads in, but your abilities and mechanics are basically one size fits all, with now way to improve them
