Trying my hand at writing a story...

I always hated dying. My team warped through the Vex time gate and instantly I knew it was a mistake coming here. The temperature, it had to be nearing absolute zero. My boots stuck to the ground on every step. The heating elements that usually warm the suit in space were doing me almost no good here. I called out to the other Warlock and she was just as confused as me. I heard our Titan come over the comms. “I’ve got a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Hurry with the research you two.” Rieta and I quickly got to placing sensors. We had to resort to placing them on stands because there was no way of getting them in the ground. In the distance was a huge mountain range, seeming to shift as we spent more time there. My ghost was having a hard time placing us on a map, which was typical after time gates, but he was telling me this time was different than usual. Just as he was about to pinpoint our location, we would move. Far. Xietm-3, the Titan of our group, had earned the complete and total trust of Rieta and I. Enough to where once we got working on data collection and experiments, we never bothered to check our surroundings. He stuck close by on this trip, setting up a close perimeter on the permafrost. We were there for what seemed like forever, but it was just the cold making time go by slower. Every now and then I could hear Xietm talk to his ghost about something in the distance. The conversation didn’t bother me too much. It was typical for them to talk. Then, out of nowhere, the air began to sparkle around us. It crackled and hummed with energy. We all knew what this meant. Vex. Guns came to the ready, Xietm’s Ward of Dawn ripped through the air, Vex hit the ground, and everything stopped. Some Vex stopped mid teleport, others stopped as soon as they hit the ground. “Do we have all the data from the sensors?” I asked Rieta. “We have enough. Let’s get out of here.” She replied. Our ghosts gave us the all clear and we tossed our grenades to destroy the sensors. Void, Solar, and Arc light erupted before us, destroying all the equipment. We stepped out, still on edge, ready to pounce on anything that moved. Xietm broke the silence. “I’ve never been this close to a Vex before. They’re always dead before I can actually look at them.” He said through a chuckle. I pulled out my ghost and told him to collect everything he could about the Vex frozen in front of us. Rieta did the same. I heard the crack of a gun shot and spun around before I even realized what the sound really was. What was before my eyes I’ll never forget. Rieta had shot one of the Vex in the exposed part of its stomach, trying to collect the Radiolarian Fluid. The Vex unit had exploded as usual but the fluid froze midair. My ghost scanned what it could while Rieta’s ghost did its best trying to secure the fluid for transmat. “Let’s go.” I ordered through the headset. We turned to head for the gate, and that’s when the unbelievable happened. A Hobgoblin Line Rifle shot came through the gate. Time slowed to a crawl. I could see the energy surrounding the bolt, the way it tore through the air, and I could see it was heading straight for me. I knew there was no escape, so I relaxed as much as I could and let it hit me.
