PVP has no casual appeal

After about a week of playing PVP in Destiny 2, I have come up with a few improvements that I would like to see in the future. My first and biggest concern is that there is no longer any casual appeal to PVP. In Destiny 1, many players would look to Crucible matches as fun ways to play alone or in pairs when their friends might not have been online to play team based PVE content. Also, every Destiny 1 player has known the joys of jumping into a crucible match with your raid team just to have fun and compete with eachother for better stats. In Destiny 2 this is no longer the case. The outcome of ALL games has become completely dependent on the teamwork of players, which is extremely difficult for players looking to jump into a casual game, as well as players new to Destiny. The advantage to full fireteams that know how to communicate and play in tandem is too great to allow casual players any chance of winning, much less winning any gunfights, or even enjoying the match at all. This could be fixed by a new playlist returning to the 6v6 Crucible style of Destiny 1. In my opinion, although the gameplay might have been more hectic in Destiny one, it was also a better way to blow off steam or just have mindless fun altogether. Now I can't even hope to try out a less competitive PVP gun or ride solo for a few lives without dying within half a second to the infamous teamshot. I would say a 6v6 playlist with clash, control, and even larger map game modes would be a great addition. This would also allow players that like to play different styles to have fun and remain competitive. For example now if you have one player on your team that likes to sit back and be stealthy and pick people off from a distance with precision shots, you will more than likely lose no matter what you are playing. The same is true for players that like to play fast paced and rush the opposing flags. If their teammates have a slower playstyle, the player and his team are doomed. My next issue stems from the fact that all playlists are 4v4. Already, I have run into the problem that I will have 5 or 6 friends on that want to play crucible together. This leaves previously made fireteams of 3 or 6 from PvE to have to figure who makes the cut to play in a full crucible team together, and who gets to go play alone and grind public events. It just makes sense mathematically to have a 6 player game mode for people trying to play with multiple friends or coming from PVE content. In addition to this problem, I feel there has to be better ammo balancing of power weapons. The simple fact is it is very rare for someone to pick four fusion rifle, sniper, or shotgun shots over one and done launchers that can kill multiple people from a distance. Especially in group based game modes where teammates move in close proximity. I feel like giving the previous secondaries of destiny 1 more ammo capacity, or the ability to retain ammo after death would fix this issue. NOT REDUCING THE POWER OF LAUNCHERS. Another annoyance I have encountered is the game mode supremacy. It is an extremely team based game mode with 4v4 teams, and many casual gamers would agree that it is just not fun to play team based kill confirm. The nature of the game is meant to promote players rushing lanes and staying mobile, rather than sitting in your team and getting occasional picks until someone gets a super and wipes the other team to pick up all of their orbs. One final note to consider is that supers play a much larger role in team based PVP, and for the most part players are only getting their supers once or twice per game, and then using them all at the same time. There is very little exception to this, so finding a way to vary the super meters of players would make games immensely more enjoyable to casual players that want to get a few multi kills with their supers without having to wait for minutes with a full super bar. One final final note is that no one wants to see a kills AND assist to death ratio. Players can't even tell how well they are doing in game, and then it is still unclear after the game is finished. Streaks and power plays are cool, but bring back the old fashioned KD ratio with an additional assists column. I think Destiny 2 is a great game with a lot of potential to keep players interested for years. There are just a few things lacking for players that don't want to be collaborating and strategizing with others at all times, which at some point or another, is every one of us. This push to make everything team based is a good concept for teaching skills, and getting people to make new friends, it just takes away from how special raids and night falls used to be. Intense teamwork has become the norm, and combined with the increased ability to collect all of the exotics in weeks, Destiny 2 is making the weekly grind to level up for end game content more pointless to Destiny players everyday.

  • They saw competitive overwatch and thought to themselves, "we can do that with a couple of changes." without regards to what the base of the game wanted.

I've been trying to find a match not against an entire clan for 30mins this matchmaking is fućked. Teams should play teams and solo player against solo. Why the fučk are full teams not forced into competitive?

        • Just remember. Complaining about PvP and weapon balance has gotten us here. The recent bitching about MIDA and Trials is heading us towards more of the same. STOP complaining about weapons and git gud.

            • Easy fix, remove crucible because it is horrible and spend the time they spent on that on PVE content.

              • I've always hated pvp in most games, destiny included. Halo on the other hand... ctf and infection made me love it there. They need a destiny version of those. I like those game types and would actually play pvp if they had one or both. Just my opinion though.

                • I think the competitive queue is more casual than anything they've done before and quick play seems to be where all the sweaty try-hards are. Competitive games make faster too, I saw the Thursday update and laughed when he said quickplay was getting faster make times.

                  • Having played since launch day I can only think two things: Either this game wasn't finished when it released or It was designed for the kind of people I've never encountered that like Destiny. It looks good but doesn't play that great. I'm not trying to be an A-hole, but coming from an avid D1 player, I think it needs a lot of work.
PVP has no casual appeal
The funny thing is that the competitive side says the same thing. Meanwhile, people obviously still play the Crucible. I just find it confusing... Or, could there be a third subset of people? Are there more than just Republicans and Democrats... er, Trolls and Burgens... er, I mean... Competitives and Casuals?

                  • Pvp has no appeal to anyone anymore. I could barely matchmake with people last night for my milestone quest. 5-10 minutes between matches

                  • On the one hand most D2 PVP deaths don't feel cheap compared to D1. On the other hand it's slow and boring as heck. And Competitive is mostly really long matches where you know after the first game or two which team will win. First to two wins would be just fine for Competitive playlist. Finally one way or another let us choose what match types not to play. Don't make the only way we can avoid Countdown and Supremacy to be not to play Crucible at at, or to bail out once the match type is known which is just bad for everyone.

                    • I don't think the problem is the crucible and its changes, I think the problem is us and content creators. We have been all over the destiny hype and consuming as much information as we can get. A significant amount of that information comes from people that play destiny well and in teams. They play trials and when they aren't playing trials they are practicing for trials, so that is how they play. They are the ones that told us all that to be successful in D2 we needed to play like them. So we have. We have turned crucible sweaty because we were told that's how it is supposed to be played, by sweaty players. Here's an idea, don't play like that. Sure, you'll get pub stomped some - but didn't you get pub stomped sometimes in D1. I like to roam around the map, sometimes I run into a team of players and I get vaporized. Sometimes I am able to draw the other teams focus and allow my team to get some kills. Sometimes I jump on peoples heads with a shotgun and take out a couple of people. But whatever happens, I'm having fun because I am playing the way that I like to play. Instead of lamenting the nostalgia of D1, figure out how to have fun. Don't do what mtashed and True Vanguard tell you to do. Those guys are fantastic players, but you don't have to play like them if you don't want to play that way. It's only sweaty if you allow it be.

                      • That much was predicted after the DRE when it was announced that loadout would be 2 primaries + power, that recharge timers would be slow, and PVP would be ALL 4v4.

Heh this game is ALL about casual appeal: weak guns, weak abilities, weak movement, EXTREMELY generous hitboxes, strongest aim assist in the industry. Bungie put all these kiddie wheels on Crucible to compress the skill gap tremendously so it's barely a hairline crack now, coming down to a single thing: who can hit more headshots (aimed at huge baloon size head hitboxes that stick behind cover) wins.
