"Powerful" Gear dropping LOWER than my current Power
Just got my 2nd hunter to max level, currently sitting at 289, and so far every single "Luminous" Engram I have received has dropped at 281. Did I miss something? I thought the point of "Powerful Gear" was to drop higher than your current level, not at the same level as every other legendary.
In addition to this, I previewed the Luminous Engram to see what I could get and all the items within it were at 290, but then the items I got were at 281.
It should be noted that plenty of other people are having the same exact issue with alt characters.
How did this game make it past QA with so many bugs in it? Don't even get me started on how bad the drops are for the Raid.
Bitching aside, anyone else having this problem? Please use the Poll above so we can get an idea of what's going on. Like I said, I've seen other threads about it on reddit, but none here.
EDIT: So after reset, all of the powerful gear I'm receiving seems to be at the correct light level. I think it may just be a case of that happening for the first luminous engrams you receive on the week you make the 2nd same-class character.

It is because you have duplicates of the same class. Apparently bungie is punishing people for having duplicate classes

I saw in TWAB this only effects ppl with 3 of the same character. Cause I run all 3 classes and never have this problem. So it sounds like a cap to stop ppl from working the system.

Got this problem on my main.. Everything 268, even powerful gear/ milestones, its not the mods(tried without, goin back up from 268 gear only nothing worked) for some its definately a bug.. Bungie ignoring

1 ReplyI feel like this is a sneaky thing the intentionally put in to prevent people with say 3 warlocks (me) from grinding powerful gear on all characters. Which is dumb, its not like we're glitching or breaking the game in any way. We're legit just grinding, I still am ding the strikes, Clan XP, nightfall in its entirety. Also this screws the people who have one of each character. What? Are they supposed to chose which character will get the powerful gear that week? I think this may just be another lazy tactic by Bungie to artificially add more life to the game. Or am I just paranoid?

Currently having similar issue. 3 Warlocks running at 303 (297 excluding mods) powerful gear is dropping at 292 the same as all the other gear that is dropping.

I made 2 hunters to level faster, sorry not sorry, and have one at 300 and the other at 298. Opened a luminous today and it was 291...👍

If you have mods on all of your weapons and gear they don't count.

Someone was telling me this is something they did on purpose for people that make characters of the same class. That if you make another character in the same class, powerful gear will be capped lower than if it was on a different class.

I never made an alternate. I simply have 1 of each. 284 light. All my drops are 274. My highest light item without a mod is 274. Idk what to do. Play something else?

1 ReplyI have the same issue, deleted my account to get a second set of powerful engrams only for them to decrypt lower. Same with exotic engrams. I smell a stealth patch with 1.04.

Cuz mods don't count towards your power level for engram. Its your base power cuz a mod is just something you added to the gun or piece of armor not the base power of it.

I had this problem, too. Even exotics were dropping low. I deleted the alt, because it wasn't fun, or even productive it seemed now, but if people have 1 of each and this STILL happens, its a big problem. I'm still pretty angry there's a soft cap at all... this doesn't help. Did anyone ever explain why or even acknowledge them implementing a ridiculous weekly soft cap on progress?

I have this same problem but I have a hunter a Warlock and a titan. My hunter main character at 285 and my titan at 283 but nothing drops higher than 274 for my titan and 276 to 283 for my hunter.

Maybe it's possible they knew people would have multiple characters and did this purposely. 🤔

don't worry about that the first set of powerful gear is the same light level before you transfer your gear
