Reviews - Starting to See a Worrying Trend

So looks like the reviews have come out for the game and before you start flaming me which I know you will just know I haven't read every single one so I'm not saying this is definitive (hence words like starting to and trend). That being said if I was slightly more gullible you could almost convince me of a conspiracy. So here we are again, reviews right after a Destiny release and I gotta say I know a lot of people have incredibly short memories but you could swap out Destiny 2 with Rise of Iron or Taken King or HoW with any of these reviews and vice versa and they would all work. 10ish hour campaign that makes story more engaging? Check. Improvements to the leveling system so it's not as confusing? Check. Grind not so bad until right at the end? Check. Here's a golden quote from a review, "Destiny 1's soul-destroying progression is ditched in favour of a relatively simple levelling up system that involves repeating certain activities on a weekly basis. Bungie has done well to increase the number of activities available compared with Destiny 1, adding variety to the post-campaign game in the process." <--- If that doesn't describe The Taken King then I don't know what does." Still I'm kind of rambling because that's not what I'm making this topic over. It's not what they are putting in the reviews that is the problem it's what they are leaving out. Despite how you may feel about the situation the shader and microtransaction thing was/is a big deal so that means that people who haven't been paying attention but want to read the review are going to be completely blindsided by them and if they are someone who would not like something like it's kind of a bummer they are leaving it out. It'd be one thing if the place didn't have a bunch of articles or pieces on the subject showing they kinda thought it was a problem and then left that out but they covered it. So if you think it's affecting players experience and you know it's a stumbling block for some people why would you leave it out? Don't say because people could just read the other articles or should already know about it because in some reviews they are talking to people as if they have no idea what Destiny is about so they know they might have a naive audience. I don't know there has been some shady stuff going on with Bungie (Bungie not Activision, stop passing the buck to them) and it's just sad to see it. Are the reviewers just leaving it out cause they don't care, they think the anger has faded, or because the devs wanted them to? Who knows either way it's a pretty big omission at least in my book. It's actually kept me from purchasing the game when I was supposed to. Well that and people already talking about things being stale. Really just yelling into the air venting my frustation.

  • It's kind of ridiculous in my opinion that people complained about the single use shaders for only one gun or armor piece. I'll be honest I thought it was outrageous when I first heard about it, but then I played through the game a little more and I realized and saw that it was incredibly easy to acquire shaders and bright engrams. Not to mention that the way they set up the shader system actually encourages people to visit more than just one planet because some of the shaders are planet specific.
