Leviathan Raid is frustrating, here's why.

Hey all. My first post in a long time. So basically, I played the raid today. OH BOY, WHERE DO I BEGIN? So firstly, the revive system is complete crap. Really bungie? revive tokens in a raid? Ever stop to think of how soul crushing it is to get so far in an encounter, then wipe because no one can revive a guy? OH, AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON WIPES BECAUSE OF THAT. The 30 second timer that causes a wipe if a teammate is not revived? I legit wanted to smash my xbox after the 27th try at baths, getting to the last rotation, and having someone die in mid. I AM FURIOUS WITH YOU, BUNGIE. I could understand choosing one or the other, between these two mechanics, but BOTH? How is this even remotely fair and balanced? I could do it with a team that is good, but when most of my friends are casual players and my clan is filled with mostly my friends (Reminder, mostly casual players), I have to get a bunch of randoms, and my social anxiety goes on overdrive when I do that. Seriously, my team was decent, but we just couldn't get past garden in the end. I love the visuals of the raid, and the music is good, but the death related mechanics are completely and utterly TRASH. Go back to destiny 1 raid death systems, and it might be less infuriating to do. I just can't enjoy the raid like this, and as my titan is at 295 as of raid launch, I felt like I would be able to handle it. I really did. I was hopeful for this raid, bungie. I was really hopeful. I should have known better. If anyone ever wants to try to run the raid, and will be willing to put up with my anxiety around new people, please feel free to message me. I just need better teammates than my friends, no offense to them. I just want to get things done and I can't do that with the people I play with normally. Again, I don't hate the raid itself. I really enjoyed the visuals, and the mechanics. The only real complaint I have as a long term player is that the death mechanics are too punishing for a normal mode raid. EDIT: All of this is referring to NORMAL MODE MECHANICS. Please relate my post to D1 Normal raids, not hard raids. EDIT 2: Thank you all for your replies. I really want to specifically mention that the raid didn't feel [i]hard[/i] for me, but it felt too punishing for the players who did end up dying. each run, one player at least would die, and I died significantly less than the others on my team. I was frustrated at the time of the original post, causing my phrasing to not be very clear about what I meant. Yes, this raid is a challenge, but I could beat it with a team that actually could coordinate better than my original team. I need to be able to trust my teammates to play well, but both teams I ran with had people I couldn't really trust, as I had played with them before and they were really bad.

    • Firstly the raid is not difficult. Its about team work yes the revive system is awful but there is sense in its design. Guided games were crested for the raid so that experienced clans could take new people tgrough the raid itself. You do know that each area can be glitched so no ads (enemies spawn) right??? Guantlets is easy have 1 person stand on each plate and stay there no rotation needed. Punch your own psyon when it spawns in jump back on the plate. For example teammate 1 on dog plate shoots top top arrow teammate on axes shoots bottom arrow. Teammate on dog shoots right teammate on axes shoots left.

    • The biggest thing to me isnt the death tokens or the ads, but the mechanics, it seems like no one I jump into a raid can get them and execute them all. Call outs at calus, cross shooting psions, and the bathers have killed so many of the randoms I invite into the raid and don't get me started on the prestige and the added mechanics for that, it's frustrating when you don't have alot of time to play all the time and you have to quit after an hour or two of wipes and get nowhere. It's why I've spent so much time lately on CoD WW2. No list of mechanics there.

    • Honestly I wouldn't mind it so much if they were actually giving us gear to level up. Being underleveled is fine if there is a reward to bump you up to the same level as the enemy... but I don't see myself beating my head against the wall and doing these marathon raids for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in terms of a bump up in level. They also need to bring back the f'king ammo synths. The ammo drops in this game are abysmal! The number of friends I have simply not playing Destiny 2 anymore is surprising given it's only been out just over a month. I might join them because the fun of the game is basically gone now.

    • What the hell does everyone mean when they are saying there are no checkpoints? Everytime my team wipes, we begin at the start of the encounter...just like every other raid in Destiny. I actually can not think of any game where a raid gave you check points so that you would start mid encounter.

    • I agree I hate the raid and the mechanics are action based, so it basically becomes a monotonous, do a and b leads to c, instead of actually playing the game and shooting Aliens. You have to do all these stupid things to not wipe. I absolutely hate it for opening raid. This kind of raid would be better as an end game raid after all the easier raids have been beaten. The whole thing feels like a way to frustrate and annoy you instead of being a fun little activity you do with your friends.

    • The raid itself is far too unforgiving. If 1 person messes up its a wipe. This in turn leads to people seeking fire teams with other players who have already beaten the raid. So in addition to the raid itself being unforgiving there is the gate of finding people who are willing to team up with new people. It happened in D1 too but not to this extent at least not on normal raid settings... on heroic setting yeah you should expect it to be unforgiving but not the entry level of the raid.

    • I feel the same at 296 i don't seem good enough for the raid. I do fine in pvp, strikes, publics and nightfall but the raid is beyond me as a player

    • I dont understand what all the fuss is about, its a raid. Endgame content. Its not suppose to be easy, if you want easy play a strike. The death mechanic is something that makes it challenging, it was a great add because in d1 raids were just longer strikes. Just stay focus and try not to die. I understand about the bugs that cause wipes but those are pretty rare now. Bugs happen in every game, look at WoW those raids had alot of bugs and WoW was a huge hit. Probably still is. I know its normal mode but its still a raid and it still needs to be challenging.

      • I agree 100% you have a match making system but the raid just is too for a pug some of us have families and cannot commit to a 5 hour run due to wipes cause the silly one revive system. That should be for hard mode but not normal mode I feel I cannot play the full game cause my team has trouble hearing due to lag or a crazy bug happens. Removing the revive system will make this so much more fun

          With these mechanics who will ever be willing to bring a raid virgin on the trip? I thought D2 would be the time that i finally went into the whole raid thing. Imagine making the whole team wipe. And no checkpoints? Id be so nervous id probably screw up on things id normally could handle. Ive played Destiny since year 1 so Im not bad at it but i might have to reconsidder this and stick to PVP and normal PVE activities per usual.

          • Most of my friends play for fun. Raiding in the past has been tedious enough to turn them away and force me to raid solo or pug it. It's not fun to have to ditch your friends or split the group because the content is half baked and not conducive for newer players. Out of 40 people playing destiny 2, on my friends list, only 6 were raiding today and they're still at it 8 hours later because of the whole checkpoint system in place (or lack there of) I'm sure.

            • Bungie: We want to make raids more accesible to casual players. It's some of th ebest endgame content and only a few people ever get to enjoy it. Bungie: Let's make the worst possible death penalties of all time! Intern: In Hard Mode right? Bungie: What? No! In Normal Mode! Keep in mind people, Luke Smith said that Prestige mode will be more punishing! EVEN HARDER DEATH MECHANICS!

              • I've got to admit I don't like it. The aesthetic is soo cool (very Warhammer 40k / Roman Empire) but I just don't like the raid itself. It's over-complicated and simply isn't fun to play. The gardens / pool section alone had our fire team bashing our heads against the wall for like 2 - 3 hours. Of course we didn't finish it. I seriously don't understand how Guided Games is going to work with this. I thought Bungie wanted to encourage people to play the raids. That's not going to happen when it's as convoluted as this. IMO no-ones going to want to show people through Leviathan and explain it. It would take forever. Especially when it's on Normal difficulty - it feels too punishing for a single mistake. I'll keep trying. But I just don't see my opinion on Leviathan changing anytime soon.

                  I just find pleasure gardens to be extremely boring. Whole lotta waiting around, stealth in games is not fun imo. Raid shouldn't be nerfed though, however the dogs are glitchy and do need to be patched.

                • How about the whole story behind it? Like wtf haha.. So a big giant ass cabal ship (and I mean planetary sized) is heading towards a planet (Nessus) to freaking 'eat' it and you're sent a challenge by the Emperor via an Adventure Mission on Nessus itself (pre-raid) and I'm sitting here thinking that when this big ass ship arrives known as The Leviathan, we're going to have to kill ALL of its negligible inhabitants that mean us harm, probably fight a few bosses then the big bad in charge of the ship and then either destroy it or capture/redirect it.. But.. instead, we are LITERALLY challenged by The Emperor Calus and our stupid guardians accept this challenge and just start doing puzzles attempting to prove themselves after EVERYTHING to this random ass Cabal leader that is threatening one of our planets in our star system, not to mention we killed Ghaul, you know the person who exiled him to the imprisonment of The Leviathan in the first place and that wasn't proof enough of our worthiness. The story of this game was incredible, however the story behind this raid is so incredibly far fetched in this type of event it's past laughable. The past raids were about eliminating a threat, a major threat, but apparently us guardians don't take a ship that's capable of eating planets serious and instead of destroying it or killing its inhabitants, we accept a challenge of the person piloting it in an attempt to prove ourselves so that he decides not to eat our planet with his ship. Maybe we'll find out more when we beat it idk, I honestly hope we end up allied with Calus for The big endgame or endseries fight I should say with The Darkness themselves in Destiny 3 most likely.

                    • This Raid is clearly designed for the players with a high skill level. My team and I did well once we figured out the mechanics but what if people of a lesser skill level want to complete the Raid and reach Power cap? Let's face it, they're utterly fûcked. They go down twice and the whole team fails. There are certain mechanics in this Raid that need a serious re-think because right now, it just doesn't work and it's hugely frustrating. All this Raid is doing is making players feel like that can't enter it out of fear of holding the rest of their team back.

                        • It would seem bungie did not listen to any positive feedback they got from D1 with raids. I observed that most of the player base really liked the vault of glass raid, so you would think that bungie would do something similar for d2. What we got was a single boss encounter, a stealth section, and lots of holding plates while grabbing banners. The only fun thing I experienced was the bath section. The entire game feels a lot like a step forward with a step backward. I hope in the up coming patches and updates they can start to mold the game into something more enjoyable overall.

                            Hate this raid. 1. What the hell, no boss battles? 1 final boss is crap. This is a direct result of changing up the weapon system. 2. The theme, what the hell does this have to do with the Cabal and anything in Destiny? The challenges were like a ripoff Mario Party, but less fun. 3. The dog park challenge...felt like I was in the reject version of Hunger Games. Who thought up this challenge? They need to be fired. 4. The Royal Pools is the only fun encounter but still makes zero sense. No boss to fight. Why are we playing in the Cabal baths? 5. Check point system...lame. 6. Loot drops...pathetic. 7. Final boss, the closest example of a raid encounter. But it was spraying bullets at a bullet sponge and weapon loadout doesn't seem to matter. A direct result to the weapon rebalance with Power Weapons. Final Verdict: D - This raid is a complete failure. After seeing VoG I was expecting the 1st raid for D2 to be equally amazing. This raid felt like PoE. And most agree that PoE was a huge failure.

                            • Hardcore veteran player here with my team I started playing with Crota and we all hate it. I have never wanted to stop playing destiny until I played this raid absolute joke the revive system is in normal I could understand it in hard mode but normal wtf. Too many mechanics not enough fun. Absolute joke. Gave up on the dogs after spending 3 hours 30 mins on it of the same bs. The dogs don't turn for ages ans everything
