Why didnt the Leviathan stop the sisters the first time?

He knew the worms were down there and what they were capable of so why in travelers sake would he allow them to continue into the deep after they ignored his warnings. The sisters had no power then and he could have easily stopped them from unleashing the evil of the worms. Instead the sisters go on to become gods and the Leviathan gets eaten. Been studing the lore alot more as of recently and this kinda bugs me. Maybe i missed something

The same reason God and the Angels (different metaphor) allow people to make deals with the Devil. Free Will. The Leviathan was willing to intervene to the point where he tried to reason with the Sisters and convince them not to go further. But he was not willing to destroy them, or physically restrain them from their chosen path. The Light wants you to CHOOSE your allegiance with it. While the Darkness is willing to "take you" and compel it from you, if it can't SEDUCE you into it. The Sisters didn't "fall" when they accepted the Worm Gods offer of power. They fell to darkness and evil when they swore their blood oath of revenge....and were willing to go to ANY lengths to see it done. The Darkness was simply a "tool" by which they could achieve the evil acts they had already committed themselves to. The Worm Gods simply seduced the Sisters with a tainted offer of power. A hook-in-the-bait as it were.

    • Because the leviathan needed a proper exit to his story arc.

      • My opinion? I think it's something having to do with the nature of the Light. The Leviathan is described as the greatest disciple of the Traveler and an old priest in the fragments. I believe that there's some component of the Light that compels him to allow them to make their own choices. There's no in-game explanation, but this is my best guess.

        • Don't worry it's all getting retconned and probably never actually happened in Destiny Canon.

        • I believe that the Leviathan may have been against harming others so didn't kill them. After all, he favors the Light over the Darkness and the Light is peaceful. Plus he clearly doesn't like interfering judging by how, up until the sisters dove towards the core, he only ever observed what happened around him on the planet. So maybe he wasn't willing to interfere more than he already had and decided to let the events run their course (which he clearly regretted after the Hive started taking the moons and killed him)

          • Because, he isn't evil like that. He sticks to his morals, even if it means the complete destruction of the universe. He might be able to kill that arsonist who is about to set his house on fire, but then he would be a killer. He instead chooses the path of peace, and you can be damn sure that he will be watering his tomato garden when the support beams give in to the flames.

          • My thoughts being a huge fan of lore, the leviathan couldn't touch them as they weren't from the same plane yet.. Once the sisters became ascendant they were able to enter the plane of the leviathan.. And destroy him.. Turning that plane into their "Throne" world.. The only plane in which they themselves can be destroyed.

            • As others have said, I always took it as the leviathan couldn't physically stop them, just very seriously suggest they stop.

            • Are you serrious? Are you that ignorant? They do not even know what the darkness is and you are complaining about the lack of logic in their lore? You gotta be kidding me. Just move on dude. Your lore is on a shelf.
