Mansions of Madness

My fiancee and I are quite fond of board games and tend to play them frequently. However, playing the same games over and over again can get predictable. Recently, two new board games caught my attention, but I'm not sure which to invest in. Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness both look similar and very interesting. Arkham Horror seems to be the original game that spawned Mansions of Madness and other Lovecraft themed games, which makes me think that I should play this one first. Mansions of Madness seems similar, however the second edition has an app that allows for multiple player games without the use of a "Keeper" (basically a DM from the sounds of it) and also allows for single player games. I wouldn't mind being a Keeper, but I don't think my fiancee would be willing to play that role, which makes me lean towards the second edition. If anyone has played these games, I would appreciate your input. What has your experience been like, which of the two do you prefer, and are they worth the price.

 • Arkham horror is fun but has there are 2 concerns you may have with it. 1 you normally need a lot of players it's best with 4-7 having just 2 is not really enough. 2 it is long. This is not monopoly it's not a 45 minute investment it takes multiple hours to complete. For example one time when I was playing my friend got banished to something like the shadow realm meaning he had to skip the rest of his turn. He decided he was going to lay under the table and play with it until his next turn. 45 minutes later he finally got to take his next turn. He got to roll to see if he escaped. He failed the roll. Needless to say he did not get to do anything for over an hour and a half which was hilarious for Everyone else but not for him. He was out for over 2 hours and he did not even miss half the game. So if you are ok with a really long game and have the people it is worth it.
touch me bby
