Destiny 2 Thoughts, Hopes, & Expectations

I would like to start by saying that I intend on playing Destiny 2. I love Destiny, I've made some great friends in it, and I look forward to continuing my adventures in its strange beautiful worlds. I also understand why what we've seen from Destiny 2's reveal looked like essentially more of the same; the first Destiny had a lot of issues, and Bungie is making Destiny 2 as a clean slate to do everything correctly this time. I get it, and I'm alright with this. That said, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed by how tame everything looks so far, and I understand why a lot of people weren't blown away by the reveal (yes, I know the reveal only likely scratched the surface). For me, I think the slight bit of disappointment comes from expectations I've built up from the great lore in the Grimoire. Wish-granting dragons (Ahamkara), giant worm gods (Yuul, Xol, Ur, Eir, Akka), Vex gates connecting points across space and time (meaning we don't even have to be in the Solar System or in the present). The lore opens a window to so much crazy amazing things that surpass what gameplay has actually presented to us so far, so when I imagined Destiny 2, I imagined fighting dragons and worm gods. I don't just want to read about these amazing things, I want to experience them. Seriously, imagine an exotic quest where you have to travel through time to hunt a Ahamkara to use its bones to craft a sword. Another aspect of the disappointment is the desire for novelty and change. We've seen a few (maybe 2) new Cabal units, but I want new types of really freaky Hive abominations created through dark magic, new types of Vex models built in strange new forms (didn't notice any in the Inverted Spire strike), etc. I would even like to see entirely new enemy species after we wipe out an existing one (though for the Fallen, I'd rather unite them under House Judgement and make them allies), but I don't think something like that could happen until Destiny 3. I'm hoping Destiny 2 will have much more wild unexpected surprises. I can be okay with just the same stuff being done better like the reveal suggests we'll get, but I hope for something more than that.

  • From watching the reveal and searching sources I have to say I am slightly disappointed in what Bungie as implemented or should i say not, however I remain optimistic that Bungie is holding main features close to their chest till closer to release which is still months away so plenty of time for new stuff to be developed. My main negatives are: The lack of information that has been released about the crucible and PvP content. Yes 4v4 will be a new take on many of the modes and I am sure the new S&D mode will provide some new experiences, but given that many players focus on PvP compared to PvE would have thought more information will be given. No dedicated servers on PC one of the main reasons I was so hyped to get Destiny 2 on PC was that i could look forward to high frame rates and dedicated servers. I remain hopeful that servers will be produced but i feel that until this is done Destiny will take a hit on the PC platform. I know that 3 of my friends have cancelled pre-orders because of this. Having watched gameplay of new strike and reveal there didn't seem to be that main new enemy units that were faced, again I hope this is because Bungie don't want to give away to much as of now. There are a few other points I could make but feel that this is getting too negative. That being said there is many positives things that Bungie has done. The new guided matchmaking for raids and nightfall will be a huge success I feel especially for players that are lone wolves. It will also save time for players looking for say one last guardian to fill team as they will not have to use external sites. The new weapon systems while I am slightly concerned for PvE as I love my sniper and rockets for bosses, the new system will make PvP far more varied and tactical instead of just a guy runing round with a shotty. I also love that fact that we no longer have to go to orbit when switch locations can't say how many hours I have wasted in orbit
