Im seeing them... Again!

Ok so sbmm and cbmm have come up again postings and comment threads debating the top are out and about and I only have a few things to say when talking g about matchmaking and connection. Let's begin. 1. With destiny 2 coming to PC, if there are no dedicated servers, most PCs players will not buy it, if any, and will cause a huge loss for bungie. They are not stupid and know this we will have dedicated servers. 2. Connection is not a one way street. Just because there is lag going on, it's not just the red bar God's fault and it's not all of your fault either. The redbar's connection to the host is bad, not bad in general. The only way to fix this is to make sure that you have a populated player base so that lag is at a minimum and an attempted to match people in the same country consistently and not always just casting a world wide net. 3. Your skill determines how tough your opponents are in this game. It is more and more prevalent as the player base dwindle and your true skill starts to come out. You don't know how good you actually are until everything is turned up to 11 difficulty. Stating that people don't learn by being demolished is horse shit and the only way I learned. All through year one it was like this. You think since no one else learned this way? Bullshit. I started in house of wolves and just at the beginning of RoI did I finally get my KD positive only after many of ass whoopings. Now my KD isn't that if someone who is a crucible God but have gotten pretty good and I have experienced most metas. You play someone significantly better than you so you learn faster. If you have no drive to win then you will never learn. It takes tweaks and learning patterns of what good players do to beat them. If you don't learn the patterns and tricks then yeah you will always be stomped. Everyone can learn. Things don't just come naturally to everyone. Get over it. You need a good ass whooping to learn something every once in a while. I only rage about game mechanics and my own play. I.e. I can't hit a shot or a sticky nades flew past me then stuck my back.

    • I'm not worried about any of it. Bungie and those they are collaborating with are making the game - not me. The finished product will be what it is. I'll do some homework and decide if I want to buy D2. I love Destiny but there are some issues I need to see resolved before I will consider buying D2.
Not going into it... just going to wait and see.
• Although I agree with a lot of what you said, dedicated servers wouldn't fix the problems with lag in destiny. Eliminating skill-based matchmaking definitely would help but there would still be the underlying issue that causes many problems in the game. The core problem with Destiny that few realize, is the fact that destiny runs in PVE and PVP on a "shared world shooter" connection that Bungie developed. This means that for every lobby, there are two hosts. One of the hosts is a player machine hosting via peer-to-peer. This is known as the physics host, and is essentially responsible for where we see other players on our screen. The other host is the "Activity host", which essentially is responsible for refereeing the match. The Activity host is what drives the kill feed, and gives the hit points that you see when you shoot another guardian. It's also what allows us to open doors, and pick up ammo crates. The physics host updates at a rate of 30 times per second. The activity host updates at a rate of 10 times per second. The tick rate is not the issue though. The real issue is with the activity host in that it is run on a cloud-based server. It can host many hundreds of lobbies simultaneously, and cloud servers are notorious for processing latency. This results in a whole lot of WTF moments: hits not registering, ammo can't be picked up, invisible enemy guardians that can only kill with grenades and supers, post game carnage reports showing far more guardians that are allowed to be in a match at a time, etc. Although it sounds like the shared world shooter connection can only be bad, it does have some benefits to it. Without it, when players left the match we would be stuck on a waiting screen while the host migrated to a different player's machine. Anyone who has played old CODs is familiar with that. Not good. For anyone that would like to know more about Bungie's "shared world shooter" connection method, go to the following link and hear about it from its creators: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022247/Shared-World-Shooter-Destiny-s

I have a $2,000 PC that I built. In terms of dedicated servers I doubt there will be a need for a PC wise server. Since most PCs made for gaming have the hardware to run their own server. Im pretty sure with the Microsoft implemented network -LAG- will be minimal.
