Strength of the Pack S3 Ch. 11: To the City

"Who was that?!" I exclaimed. "I didn't think she would-- She turned a Guardian into one of her drones!" It was too much for me. We had to get out! Colt peaked out the door. No one was in ear shot. "Okay, I found a gravity lift near the back of the throne room. Guun Ji used it to get to the surface." "Okay, great. So, once we get to the surface... how the h*** do we get back to the City?! My ship's trash, and I doubt we'll find anyone that's willing to pick us up!" I shouted. Colt waved his hands to get me to be quiet, then began praying that Vanessa wouldn't hear us. "We do what we did last time," Colt said. "Which was?..." I asked. Colt grinned. We began sneaking around the Citadel. It was late at night, and luckily even the Technomancer needed to sleep at some point. We tried to keep quiet as the other ghosts-- Ares, Loki, and Walter-- still patrolled the underground fortress. There it was at last, the gravity lift out of this h***hole. "Are you ready?" Colt asked. "Of course I am!" We stepped into the lift and floated back to the surface. I could breathe out here! Fresh oxygen flushing out my lungs! The world was a different place. The stars said it was night, but the sky had an angry orange glow. All of the Fallen factories kept the world awake with fire. "So... how are we getting out of here?" I asked once again. "See that skiff over there?" Colt asked as he pointed in the distance. "I'm bettin' it's going straight for the Wall..." My ghost said. It clicked. When I first became a Guardian, Colt and I rode a skiff from Venus to Earth! I ran as fast as I could to catch it. Back in the Citadel, the SIVA was active again. The Technomancer walked into her throne room, where Sif and Michael waited. "What news do you have for me?" Vanessa asked. "Alan escaped, my Lord. It is likely he is going to the City and will warn the Vanguard of our-- your plans," Lady Sif said after she knelt down. "Shall we pursue him?" "No," the Technomancer said. "Alan will soon learn that his only sanctuary is with us. SIVA is a threat to the Tower, and Alan will be dealt with as such..." the warlock waved her hands, signaling SIVA drones to come forward. Colt was right. The skiff carried us right to the edge of the City. Odd, this was the tower known as Bannerfall. What could the Fallen be doing here? No matter, getting to the Tower was my main priority. We walked to the edge of the tower and looked down. The only way to the City from here... was to scale the ridge Bannerfall sat on. It seemed like miles down to the City. "Does your double jump still work?" Colt asked after making an auditory swallow sound. "Uh, huh..." I knew exactly what he was thinking. And I didn't like it. Colt and I explored the City. It was only a couple weeks since I had been here, but it looked so different. Odd, what being cooped up in a dungeon will do to you. People were still sleeping, but street lights still lit up the roads. Maybe that's it. I have never seen the City at night. Boom!! A building exploded and was now wreathed in flames and pillars of smoke that reached the sky! I ran over to see what had happened. SIVA! Vanessa's drones were destroying a house! A man tried to fight off the nanites as they carried him outside. I looked around, and picked up an iron rod. A bo-staff: simple but effective. I charged in and began fighting the drones! I jabbed the staff into one, then swung the drone into another. The SIVA became swarms that began to surround me. The one drone that held the man stood back and watched. I took the staff and channeled arc energy into it. Now electrified, I jabbed it into the ground which caused an arc pulse to stun the nanites! "Hurry! Get the fire department!" Yelled a woman. The SIVA took the man and formed a noose around his throat! Then, they formed cables stretching between various buildings. They looked like a blood-soaked spider web. The man was hoisted into the air, and was killed. "Uh, oh..." I said to myself. I ran over to the body and tried to get him down, but the SIVA wouldn't let go. The titaness, followed by other City Guard, ran around the corner of the building. They stopped when they saw the body hanging five feet off the ground. "Oh, Traveler..." the titaness said somberly. She slowly tilted her head down... to Colt and me. "I'm sure you get this a lot... but this isn't what it seems," my ghost said as he held his hands up defensively. "Shut up, Colt!" I barked. The three City Guard pulled out sidearms and aimed them at us. The titaness turned on her radio, "We have a rogue Guardian-- hunter class-- in possession of SIVA! Just killed a man!" I began backing away slowly. This could not end well. "What are you doing?! Stop the bas****!" Said a male voice on the radio. The titaness chambered a round and aimed the gun at us. "Run!" I yelled to Colt. Soon, we were weaving through the streets and dodging strings of bullets!
