The ammo system should be reworked for Destiny 2.

I agree and like one or more of these ideas.

I agree, but do not like these ideas.

I disagree.

I personally think the current ammo system (in PvE, particularly) is too inconsistent, especially for raids where you might need a particular ammo source at a particular time. I've noticed far too many times that when throwing a grenade into a group of cursed thrall, the ammo outcome is rather unpredictable. Sometimes I'll get a decent mix of primary and special ammo, and other times I'll get an abundance of heavy ammo. While this might seem a blessing to others, I think the inconsistency is a nuisance and a bother. Sometimes I'll experience sudden droughts of a particular ammo stock. It's especially bad when I run low on primary because then I'm forced to waste precious special or heavy ammo on minor enemies like dregs or acolytes. I'm suggesting ideas that will give you sure fire ways to get any ammo you might need at any time. 1. This would be the most elementary way to fix the unpredictability of the ammo system. Rather than random chance, give each ammo type a set number of kills needed to drop a brick of the ammo. Something like two or three kills for primary, ten for special, etc. 2. This would give you the option to get any ammo type whenever you needed, but would only provide bursts of ammo rather than a constant stream. Essentially, special and heavy ammo would be tied to your abilities. Primary ammo would drop from weapon kills, special ammo would drop from grenades and melee ability kills, and heavy ammo would drop from super kills (or kills while affected by supers). 3. This would be the best way, in my opinion, to fix the ammo situation. Ammo would drop based on which enemies you killed. Killing enemies with red bars (minors) would drop primary ammo only. Killing shielded enemies like Captains or Wizards would drop special ammo. Finally, enemies with yellow health bars (majors and ultras) would drop heavy ammo. So, what do you think, and which is your favorite? Feel free to comment any of your ideas.

  • Just give us our damned ammo reserve capacities back like we had in Y1. Anyone remember people being able to carry 450 rounds of Corrective Measure? Or 400 rounds of VoC? How about 28 rounds of Patience/Time with the field scout perk? Shooter games are fun when you can SHOOT stuff. And you need ammo to shoot stuff with. If your trying to balance PVP based around ammo economy, you done -BLAM!-ed up all other aspects of balancing to begin with.

    • Disagree with all of this. Bring back Field Scout perk and reverse the other PvP based nerfs to ammo. Any and all problems solved.

    • All ammo problems in this game come from pvp nerfs. Plain and simple they need to separate the pvp and pve sandbox. That is the solution.

      • I think it can be even more simple. Certain enemies or enemy variants have chances to drop certain ammo types. Example: minotaurs have a chance to drop heavy, goblins have a chance to drop primary and special, harpies have a chance to drop special, etc.

      • I don't know, I never really have problems with ammo scarcity.

      • Make primary, special and heavy ammo synths permanent fixtures that function on a tiered cool down system (same as melee and grenade). In addition to perks which grant extra reserve ammo, there would be perks that decrease cool down. Primary ammo can be used once a minute. Special once every two minutes and thirty seconds. And heavy ammo every five minutes.

      • I think each brick should give ammo for that type and for the type below it, for example, pick up a heavy and also get special/ primary, pick up special and also get primary ammo etc...

      • Yes, we demand our ammo back to year 1. Especially pvp.

      • I got a better idea, leave the current sandbox and PvP gamers that cry for nerf stuck in D1 until Bungie shuts it down. This way they can continue to nerf everything until their little hearts are content and no one will give a flying hoot. Let D2 Live a little and let gamers enjoy the time on the rewords they have acquired. This means, don't nerf ammo in every aspect of a weapon Bungie. P.S. Do everyone a favor and get rid of having to go into the menu just to load a synth...

      • Things I'd love to see Bungie try: Infinite Ammo! Maybe infinite primary ammo and then regular special and heavy ammo refreshes at checkpoints. Let's face it, looking for ammo isn't fun and the current will refill your ammo when you run out so we're not talking big changes here. Respawn from a wipe with full ammo. Waiting for the Heavy Ammo Synthesis cooldown sucks donkey balls. It's just not fun. Consistent ammo drops. Have every enemy drop a tiny bit of all 3 kinds of ammo for each weapon held. When you think about it, it's kind of gross that you reload your gun with Thrall droppings, but that's Destiny for ya'. OP's idea. The problem of course is kill stealing bastards like myself.

      • What if Destiny 2 became more like fallout and you needed to either purchase ammo or scavenge materials for it? I really want Destiny 2 to be more like an rpg rather than what we have now

        • I think 1 or 2 would be best. 3 I don't like, because certain activities would be without heavy (such as raids), and others (such as strikes with an abundance of yellow bars e.g. black garden) would give only heavy. It would be predictable yes, but still way too inconsistent.

        • As somebody said before me. You've -blam!-ed up the design of the game when you have to balance it around ammo. They just need to restore ammo to what it was at launch/HoW.
