A New Approach to How Raid Armor Works - Destiny II Suggestions

Raid Armor, in addition to its standard ammo bonuses, should implement a “Gear Bonus” system that rewards players for outfitting multiple pieces of the armor set by supplying additive bonuses. Here’s an example: Cuirass of the Hezen Lords *Pulse Rifle ammo *Shotgun Ammo “Hand of the Hezen Corrective“ Set 1: Increased armor while holding the Aegis 2: Increased agility while holding the Aegis 3: Critically killing a Vex enemy generates an Orb of Light 4: Increased Super gained by killing Vex 5: “Vault” weapons you fire deal additional damage to all Vex enemies *This is just an example to illustrate my idea. Keep that in mind.* So, with this example, you can see that the first few bonuses are specific to the raid, but as players add more pieces they get more general bonuses that apply to any PvE enemies based on the raid encounter the gear comes from (raid gear then becomes more useful for strikes and Nightfalls, instead of just the raid, as you "invest" your armor slots towards the bonuses). This approach rewards the player for “sacrificing” the use of an exotic armor in order to obtain powerful raid/PvE bonuses to compensate. Players would need 4 raid armor slots and a raid class slot to gain all 5 bonuses (weapons don’t count for the set bonus). Raid armor set bonuses don’t hurt PvP either because all of the bonuses would be specifically tailored to PvE gameplay. So, why bother with this suggestion to future content? Well, exotic armor still remains the “go-to” for armor choices in endgame and I feel like the raid gear should at least be competitive with exotic gear, not strictly less powerful than it. It makes sense, too – being completely outfitted in the raid’s gear should award you with a string of useful bonuses for tackling the challenge modes and more difficult aspects of the raid. What do you think? This type of implementation could be added to future raids in D2, maybe not the first D2 raid given the timeframe, but perhaps the expansion raids.
Moderator edit: This thread has been updated with tags that are more appropriate. Feel free to private message the moderator who moved your post, link to topic, for further clarification about why this topic was moved.
EDIT: Some people have mentioned that this change would harm "armor diversity". Please keep in mind that the introduction of ornaments allows for a more varied look. Bungie could add more ornament options to gear so that endgame gear can be visually distinctive but still be a powerful option for its associated raid.

  • I would love to see gearset perks like this.

  • I think Wrath did it almost perfectly. The heavy gauntlets were 10/10

    • I love the idea of set bonuses. I would also suggest maybe guns that make sets as well. Use "A" Primary with "B" Secondary, you get the idea. Could add a whole different level to customizing your gear/weapon choices. Unfortunately though, as long as we are able to bring anything and everything into the crucible, these set bonuses would be extremely limited which sucks. I mean really we have seen it about a thousand times with different guns, gun perks, exotic armour pieces, etc. in Destiny 1.

    • Could have it just be like raid set pieces in MMORPGs; where the set bonus perks are small, but extremely useful modifications to already existing stats/perks/damage/whatever.

      • How about a raid exotic armor piece, one that matches the other raid gear as well.

        • So basically each piece of armor should have a perk that are useful in the raid where they are earned, I'm pretty sure that's how it already works (I know for certain that how it worked for WOTM armor).

          • I hope if they add set bonuses they also add some way to have stats from, say, the raid gear, while having the appearance of other gear

          • I always felt that if your whole team had full raid gear equipped, that you could just pass the first encounter. Like not having to fight over the sync plate on VoG, or not having to fight the taken on KF

          • I've been saying this for some time, but not just Raid gear but all gear sets should grant some sort of bonus for wearing a complete set including faction giving a reb bonus in addition.

          • This is a really good idea. It worked well with Division and I could see Bungie hopefully implementing a similar idea.

            • I would honestly prefer a socket style system. aka ALL legendarys AND exotic armours would come with a "raid socket" whenever you are awarded a raid armour peice the armor stats would identical with any other legendary of the same tier, but in addition you would ALSO receive a raid token, which can be placed in any armour peice of the same type with a slot, for example if you were playing kinfs fall and Darkhollow Treads dropped, before you would get them and barring the changing perks you would have the additional perk of RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. now instead they would NOT have the run for your life perk and you would receive Darkhollow Treads minus the run for your life and a "run for your life token" place the token in the Darkhollow Treads and boom they function exactly like they did before...OR place the token in your Days of Iron Boots boots and now THEY function like darkhallow treads, for their raid perk, but you get to keep your own armor look. furthermore you can actually combine this system with yours, make teh tokens a set, and you receive a set bonus for each token currently equipped. but now you can make ANY armor your raid set. sorry this is horribly explained, if someone with better eloquinces is willing to give it a shot at what i'm trying to explain, please, go ahead.

That means that one bonus won't work if you don't equip the complete set, which kills armor variety.

                  • This would force you to choose between exotics and some set bonus which I don't believe you should have to. I think raid pieces should offer specific perks, but set bonuses? Nah.

                    • Bumped, everyone else should bump to. However, instead of just raid armor it should be pvp and other sets of armor that gives bonuses. Ex: iron banner gear will have bonuses that give increased armor when taking a zone or something else useful in the crucible even if it's not iron banner. Trials gear grants increased agility after a revive and increased precision damage when you're the last man standing, which would be helpful in nightfall and trials. Also exotic gear would need to have better perks to have players actually need to choose to go with the full set perks or the one op perk this exotic grants.
