Strength of the Pack S3 Ch. 4: Guardian Hunting

Dakota walked up the stairs leading to the Tower plaza. Wolf Pack, and Michael and Sara Moores were waiting for him. "The Speaker said that there still has been no ships matching Alan's..." Dakota said, simmering and giving off smoke from his shoulders. "We can make another sweep, but with no distress signal, he's completely dropped off the radar..." Sara was tearing up as Michael held her. "Alan's strong... He'll make it home eventually..." "Get whatever you need... We're leaving ASAP," Dakota walked past the two teams and stood against the railing, staring at the City. Wolf Pack flew out to the Cosmodrome and made several passes. Michael joined the search party, but Sara stayed in the City with Conner. The six ships circled the Russian launch sites, scanning for Light. "We would have been over the Cosmodrome when he entered the blizzard..." Blake deduced. "Seismic scans are picking up a hollow area in the snow just below us..." Kourtney added. The ships all spiraled downward and the Guardians were transmatted to the ground. They all willed their helmets over their faces. Snow still fluttered through the chilling wind. "Where's that void, Kourtney?" Michael asked. The huntress looked down at the holo-tablet and spun around until the arrow pointed forward on the screen. She pointed and led the team forward. The team found a tunnel cut into the snow. Everyone had the same thought-- this was made by whoever was getting in, or out, of the hollow point below. "Monica, could you get the lights for us?" Kourtney asked. "Of course, Dear," Monica flew ahead and became a flying flashlight. Everyone else followed the Guardian in. Dakota stopped when his step caused a metallic ring. Monica glanced down-- it was the hull of a ship. Blake looked up into the cabin of the ship, "D***..." He uttered. Doc and T.C. looked up too, revealing a room of red webs and tentacles going every which way. "What the h*** is this stuff?" Michael asked as he touched a red tendril. The nanites spazzed out from contact, then reorganized themselves. Michael moved his hand away from the stuff. Blake stepped up to Dakota and whispered something into his ear. Dakota nodded and turned to the group, "Recently, there have been accounts of Fallen digging up some Golden Age technology... SIVA... We believe this might be it," Dakota swallowed. "We better leave..." he said somberly. The team left through the tunnel that they entered. Dakota took the bayonet on his Red Spectre and jabbed it into the snowy ceiling, causing it to cave in. "What are you doing?!" Michael cried out as he jerked Dakota around. Blake put his hand on his sidearm instinctively-- he wasn't worried about Dakota, he was worried about Michael. "If Alan were still in there, he would be either dead or some Devil splicer experiment. Let's hope he's neither..." Dakota reached the mouth of the tunnel and gazed toward the horizons. "If I were stranded in a blizzard... where would I go?" He asked himself. Kourtney stepped up beside Dakota, "May I have a look?" She asked. Dakota stared at her for a moment before understanding what she was asking, "Might as well..." Dakota handed her his sniper rifle, which had excellent zoom. "Just don't waste any bullets. They aren't cheap." Kourtney smirked, "I'm not going to kill anyone..." She brought the sights up to her eye and looked around. "Intentionally..." As Kourtney looked at the rusted tower in the distance, she saw something she didn't expect. She looked back through the sights to confirm her thoughts... It was scope glare... Someone was aiming at her! Instinctively, Kourtney aimed to the threat's shoulder and fired. The figure fell out of the tree covered with the new technology, and into the sea of snow. "What are you shooting at?!" Dakota asked as he panicked. "Someone in that tree was aiming at us. I took a shot before any of us were killed... Don't worry, I maimed, not killed..." Kourtney looked down the sights again to see the target jump onto a sparrow and boost for the tower in the distance. "Guardian of some sorts. It went for the tower, so that must be where he/she is hiding..." Kourtney handed the rifle back to Dakota. "Could that have been Alan?" Michael asked from the back of the group. "I doubt it. If Alan were looking at us through a scope, he probably would have recognized us-- we're a unique looking team-- and would come to us, not run," Blake answered. He crossed his arms and waited for Dakota's say. "Let's, at least, make our way to the tower... See what is up there," Dakota spawned a sparrow and waited for everyone else. The team boosted past many Fallen structures and crevices where molten rock seeped out of the surface. "Stop!" Dakota yelled. All of the sparrows stopped as several nanite swarms flew around in the air. Most of the nanites turned into drones, but the rest made a 3D image of a warlock. "Why did you attack my scout?" The warlock asked. "What? How are you doing that?" Dakota asked with amazement and a hint of worry. "You seem intrigued... With SIVA, I can do many things. In this case, I am controlling nanites and having them make a live model of me... Like a physical hologram." "You're in control of SIVA?..." Dakota asked with skepticism. The warlock sighed. "Must I ask again? Why. Did you. Attack my scout?!" The warlock raised her voice. The drones surrounded the team and raised their weapons.
