Fireteam separation issue

I'm trying to play with someone, but it keeps pulling the Fireteam into two instances. From both ends, it appears the other player left and any queuing in progress continues as though the other had simply left. There is no error code returned, it just furiously refuses to let me play with my friend. I've never encountered a Fireteam implosion error that didn't interrupt matchmaking before so I'm completely baffled. I don't even know if this would be a networking thing on one of our ends or if it's Destiny itself losing its shit. If it helps, he's on WiFi, but in the same room as his router (he's going to see about getting an Ethernet cable tomorrow), I'm hardwired to my router and my Xbox One is DMZ'd and we're both using Comcast XFINITY as our ISP. Anyone run into this and found a solution?
