• If it hasnt already been posted: "Ima chargin mai.... Belt Blaster?" Belt Blaster I'm considering making a Halo Reach promotional display stand for my A2 graphics project over the next year. I think i will include an assortment of Limited Edition items to go with it, not unlike an alternative Legendary edition of the Halo titles. Such items will currently include: full size foam block model AR replica, and metal castings (Possibly a dog tag or a keyring logo). Comments appreciated, and i will post pics somewhere when finished. [Edited on 06.29.2010 2:12 PM PDT]

 • Ah, the N1N73ND0 Zapper... Innovative at its time, and still useful today! Who ever knew that little gun could do so much... Funny thing is, they're using it to make a game perfect, by making someone go through actions that are recorded, so basically pretend its a real deal, the same thing that so many little kids did back in the day... without the whole 'making a game' deal

 •
Posted by: Russian Box I'm a computer animator with a first class degree in animation. i am against mo-cap! its killing people like me! but it does look really cool! i suppose its time to get a new skill! can't mo-cap do colours? you'd thing the balls on the gun would be diffrent so theres no problems in editing with the computer thinking its an arm
I remember the days when Bungie was against mo-cap as well. Bungie had (and still has) some of the worlds best animators, and it really showed back then. My view is that you have to be a good animator to know how to use mo-cap well anyway. And don't worry about mo-cap stealing work away from you, As far as I know, you can't mo-cap a tripod (war of the worlds), or a centipede on rolla-skates yet.

 • mo-cap animators are the bomb especially bungie ones. And as for those AR specs how about 343 industries gets a DECENT* manufacture to make some of those puppies for launch when reach comes out. I mean It's a win win situation we get AR's Microsoft gets more of our cash. The gears guys got Lancers so I think we deserve a AR now.

 •
Posted by: SILVERxxWOLF
Posted by: Crashkon The toys look good. However honestly, I think they are a waste of money.
I doubt scrap metal and that gun cost that much and it is important so they can see how the charecters would really hold the gun.
But having the weight at the end of the barrel is pretty inaccurate, to be honest. I hate to be 'that guy,' the the AR is designed as a bullpup, which means the gun's balance point is actually toward the rear. This oversight showed itself with the famous image of the Chief resting the AR on his shoulder for Halo 3. With the way a real bullpup would be balanced, that just isn't feasible. Again, I'm not saying this to be a jerk or that super nerdy guy, but if Bungie is after absolute realism, they should consider such things next time around (as I'm pretty sure it's too late to do anything about it this time).

 • Yeah the blueprints are cool. Probably any vehicle/weapon/object in Halo can easily be set on blueprints because I would think everything modeled is built to scale as determined before hand.(except the cars in ODST) That is not a big deal but a very nice touch and is great for transfering the info to someone to use as in this case. Anything I build in Maya has the scale predetermined especially if it belongs to a group. I would imagine Bungie has so many objects in their library it is sick. Of course you can resize things in a snap but they are surely built in relative size to start. Like if you were doing a small scene you would be able to enlarge the objects needed for that scene. Ok enough info no-one needs or cares about. Sweet pix!

 • What I want to know is how do you guys determine how much an assault rifle from halo would actualey weigh? But then again you Bungie guys probably have all of that top secret information locked in the back of the pantry. As for the wire gun, that's a magnificent idea. Now the wrist movements of the spartans will look very realistic. I wonder will mouth movments be dreadful like in Halo 3: ODST,or will motion capture be used for the movements of the mouth as well? What wonderful toys What wonderful Urk What wonderful Bungie.

 • Very nice. I was particularly impressed that you guys gave us a full scale sheet for the assault rifle. I would love if we could get information like that for everything in the Halo Universe, from the Plasma Pistol all the way up to High Charity and even all the alien species. I know we have something similar for some things, but it seems limited in comparison to that scale sheet. [Edited on 06.03.2010 8:55 AM PDT]

 • As a long time Halo fan I personally demand that Troy go and show us all these badass props that he's been making for motion capture. I remember in the Vidoc where one of the guys was holding (what I assume to be) a prop of Jorges giant machine gun. I wanna see that wireframe next.
