Restriction - Appears to be inconsistent to policy?

I was restricted too, will wait it out.

I was restricted too, I am not coming back.

Unsure what I will do.

****UPDATE**** As my notification said 1 week restriction. I am able to play crucible again no problem. I have been watching my connection and tested in game - looking strong! My Trials gear also works so I shouldnt be restricted with that either! Stay patient friends and see you all when you get back in! Hello all! Like many have been posting over the last 24hrs I too have received a restriction from Destiny. Without getting salty I read through the policy as to why and what may have caused this. I have been "deemed", by bungie, to have an unstable connection and have been restricted from Trials for 1 week. upon logging in I am not restricted from just the activity stated as outlined in the policy. Instead I cannot access any PvP including SRL. I am not posting to automatically have this over turned if they believe it is warranted, but to voice a concern to it not being legit or maybe a glitch in the update? Filter through whining people who may have issues there seem to be some intelligent people with knowledge around connections saying something isn't right... not to blow my own horn but I too have some knowledge as my 9-5 is a PreSales Architect for Network infrastructure, security, and traffic monitoring. I like to think I have my home network and internet configured to allow for smooth gaming experiences - to note I am not using wifi and I am hard wired. I do not have problems in any game online. My only problem in Destiny would be the usual "Red Bars" on other teams which I can ignore knowing I can re-queue for the next match. Looking for some information as this doesn't seem all ok and appears to be many loyal players restricted for little to no explanation. I hope this doesn't continue as more players will go elsewhere... ***Side Salt (haha) - After yet another content drought that we are expected to live through we are then expected to jump right back because there is finally something to do again.....nope you are restricted... this certainly makes me want to remain loyal... For any mentors and moderators that want to blindly post the policy page as a reply let me do it for you below as you are not helping anyone who has a legitimate concern: [i] "In destiny there are bans and restrictions. Bans are permanent, while restrictions are temporary. Bungie will not discuss or overturn bans or restrictions under any circumstances. Most likely got bit by peering issues between you and the players. They've been getting progressively worse this year, and really shot up in frequency shortly after kids went back to school in the fall. The more the ISP's oversell their markets without properly updating networks and peering agreements...the worse it is going to get as we steadily depend on the internet more and more. They are expecting that demand to quadruple again in the next 4 or 5 years. Just crossed another ZB tier in volume in the last year...and it steadily grows. Sounds like you may need to do some snooping around. Sites like downdetector.com, outage.report, dslreports.com, etc. may help you spot some trends. Could give the Blizzard tracert guide and looking glass tools a run to generate some reports to forward to Tier3 support if you spot something suspicious out there. Sometimes they need to be nudged in the right direction to work on these peering issues. Ultimately though, that is where the focus needs to go. After our local network has checked out, it needs to be kicked to our ISP's tier3 support. I hate it for them....they are stuck trying to clean up a mess that took almost 30 years to f*ck up like this...but they need to get a handle on it now before it gets much worse. Gigabit is growing...and will be slamming up against old copper tech like ADSL, and it will NOT be pretty.

        • Update: a clanmate of mine messaged me last night, said that in between SRL matches he received a message telling him he was restricted from Crucible and Trials. Now he plays Crucible with us at times but he has never played Trials. With this restriction coming last night, seemingly so arbitrary and random, he went out and bought Titanfall 2 today. I've been playing it for the last two days and reached out to my clanmates and a clan we raid with: most are migrating to Titanfall and Division with the direction Bungie has taken as of late. I love this game but with Festival of the Cost, not punishing quitters in PVP, and now these random restrictions with no explanation, it seems Destiny has lost its luster. P.S. Hell, I got Titanfall 2 for about the same price as RoI. Could have spent that amount on FoL items and still wouldn't have gotten a Ghost Ghost. Lol.

          • So far, here are the reasons people have given just this week for "unfair" restrictions: They played with a cheater kicking people from matches for an entire card in trials, but didn't do a thing until after their lighthouse trip. Plays on satellite internet (with a ping/latency so high it is in the 4-500ms range before anything else is figured in) Plays over wifi phone hotspot Plays regularly with someone who tells the unfairly restricted person that his connection is really poor and because of it he sees people warping in every game, and neither stop to think how one or the other of them may look to opposing teams or to the people tasked with checking to see if they are restriction worthy Cheating and doesn't think we can check trials histories to check on that. 13 of last 20 trials games had someone booted from match. Plays on an insufficient connection (dsl upload speeds @ or under 1mbps) I mean... Really? Unfair?

            • My favorite part is their explanation of bans and restrictions. I was just playing the game: Q: I just stumbled upon this page and am now worried I might have a pending restriction or ban. Do I have anything to worry about? A: Nope! Bungie will not punish you for just playing the game. Fun is encouraged in many forms; if it’s fun for you to dance on someone’s head in the Tower, spam grenades in Crucible matches, or just climb a cliff and sit for hours enjoying the gorgeous view, go for it!  It’s your choice on how to have the most fun in Destiny. If you’re merely playing the game, then you aren’t doing anything wrong.  If you find an exploit, we want to know about it in the #Help forums. Don’t be scared; we won’t be upset if you found a way to make something weird happen. Let us know about it, so we can fix it to ensure we give everybody the best experience possible!

                  • Same here, just got a week's restriction from all PvP related activities. I have never, nor will I ever, cheat in any video game not to mention I live in NYC with Verizon FiOS connection speeds of 300down/300up 1 Ping. Clearly lots of people got banned unnecessarily. Nice to know bungie's system is about as broken as the game itself.

                    • Hey me too. I haven't played trials in over a year and even took six months off the game completely. Just started playing again two months ago and this ban comes along. I have done all I can to improve my connection. UpNp on and port forwarded so maybe this will fix the issue. The funny part is I thought I was finally getting good at pvp. I guess it was just my connection. Lol bummer. Don't mind the ban it may well be justified. I don't know enough about this stuff to really argue the facts or couldn't if Bungie would provide some. Hopefully I'll get some SRL in before they ban me permanently. I am worried it may be my ISP because I get randomly disconnected on any device I am using at least once a week. I mean at the modem no little flashing Internet connected light once a week for an hour or so. I call and they just say it must be every one of my devices malfunctioning. Sorry Bungie and any players out there who feel I was cheating. It was most definitely not intentional and I hope the changes I made in my connection are sufficient. I welcome you to one-shot me with any sidearm from a mile away while your back is turned toward me and my whole team is hitting you with heavy. Three sticky nades on your head a hammer in your face and a Nova Bomb to the skull. After you walk right through that and kill me at my res a second time I may get a little salty but that's OK my ISP is a pile of gooey boogers and I will be.permabanned soon anyway. Just kidding. Anyway not sure the ban is fully justified for everyone but it at least got me to make some changes in my network. If these changes aren't sufficient and it's my ISP then that's a real pity if I can't ever play Destiny again. I mean I love the game but I'm not moving to another town just to play a video game. Good luck Guardians and have fun racing sparrows maybe me and my green bar will join you next week. Nuttin but love y'all!!!

                      • Funny how bungie is "looking into" all these people getting error codes, yet bans people based on their connection speeds. Maybe fix your servers first??

                        • So you say you have your network properly configured, but you didn't post your up/down latency and packet loss while playing destiny. Run some tests while you're sitting in an activity.

                          • The same thing happened to me. After spending so many hours playing this game, i feel like they are treating us like garbage. It almost looks like they cant deal with the number of players in their servers. So they just decided to restrict a certain amount, in order to unsure better connections to others.
