This is why Destiny's story sucked.

Here is why the in game story is one of Destiny's major shortcomings: The long time Bungie writer, Joseph Staten quit after the Bungie co-founder, Jason Jones didn't like the story Staten had shown him, because he thought it was too dense and linear. Since Jason could call all the shots at Bungie, he wanted Staten's story scrapped, and so it was, causing Staten to abandon Bungie. After this the team that was in charge of the story didn't had no lead writer so they literally wrote the story "without writers" (which explains a lot). And apparently, the original story was connected to the Dreadnaught, the European Dead Zone and Osiris' Temple on Mercury, which is why none of them were in vanilla Destiny. This all happened way before Destiny's release, in early 2013 and the game was meant to be released in September of the same year, but after all this happened, they had to rewrite the story, make new cutscenes and new missions, causing the game to be pushed back to March 2014 and then to September. I wrote this not just to inform more people about what happened, but also to show the potential the sequel has, these mistakes won't be made again, they've learned from them. All those info leaks that happened a few months ago show that Bungie has hired a new writer and the game's story will be completely new, so don't be so skeptical about D2, it might just be a pretty amazing game.

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again. The story sucked (and continues to suck to a certain extent) because no one ever dies. Tevis is the only character we see die in the present. In the end, the game just lacks that kind of tragedy and depth.

  • Fun fact: The shitty vanilla story is where a majority of the complaining stemmed from.
