One aspect I love about Destiny is the military perspective. Although I know you don't hear much about the Guardians having different ranks, I like to imagine the Last City has a military force as well.
After learning about the Forces of the City, it just makes me think that the citizens have another body of soldiers that guard the city walls and carry out smaller missions. And as they do so they view Guardians as the elites or super soldiers that perform more dangerous missions and help out the Forces in times of need. (Like Halo Spartans)
What do you guys think? Not sure if this is just my imagination filling in gaps or not so I wanted to ask the community.

With the release of Destiny 2 I think it's safe to say that story plays out the existence of the city militia. I'm happy this is a thing because it adds more of a military background to the destiny universe, explaining how the vanguard work together with the FOTC to protect Earth's last remnants. Thank you all for answering with your opinions!

New monarchy maybe?
where they at tho?
I always assumed the bulk of the city's defense force was made up of frames, given how they seem to be almost everywhere throughout the tower.
-
Well a city militia/police force exists. There's an uncommon/rare shotgun described as used by internal City patrols
-
I bet the regular human forces are VERY limited. Mostly police and logistical support. Humanity is recovering from the brink of extinction. The guardians do the dirty work and take the risks.

I like the idea that our Tower houses the Guardian Special Forces, since we only ever go on strikes of 3 or, at max, 6 person raids, while the main force of Guardians may reside elsewhere, fighting in actual full-on battles. Like the battle of Twilight Gap, or the Iron Lords' conquest of the original plaguelands, with 100s of Guardians together in a full on assault. I like to think that our forces are like Delta Force or other SF detachments.

I thought the vanguard was the military.
-
I allways pictured we having combat frames and maybe a volunteer militia that helps guard the wall.
-
Combat frames are the main source.
-
Think of it as you have the Spartans (Guardians) and then you have the marines (possible city military)
-
Makes sense. Lore-wise, Guardians number somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 (I don't remember exactly where I heard this), so it would make sense that the City would have a military of its own to patrol the walls and surrounding area to alleviate the Guardians.

When you're in the Tower, and those big ships land on the edge that everyone jumps off of, those are gunships, more than likely manned by people of the city and not guardians. This is an actual spoiler
in the gjallarhorn quest, in bannerfall, these Hawks, as their called, help you defeat that giant fallen captain That's the only time I can think that we've seen the city military forces in action
-
Well, in terms of non-Guardian city militia, I think Shaxx's Redjacks are about the closest thing
-
We are basically Z fighters.
