Defender Titan

Bungie please consider re working the ward of dawn as a super. The modifiers such as armor of light blessing of light and weapons of light are in a good spot and do not require change but the actual bubble is very weak and can be shutdown way too easily. For a super that says it's unbreakable in the description sure does gets two shotted by the raid bosses. It gets no utility usage within crucible either because of how weak it is as well. Every super in the game with the exception of nightstalker and sunsinger absolutely shutdown the bubble with no hesitation or a challenge at all. A skilled player can put it to good use based that defender is the only super in crucible that takes quite a bit of considerable skill, map knowledge and timing but it should be a more stronger option to contest offensive supers. • Defender is amazing. Only wish is that the Suppressor grenades acted like impact grenades. That way it effects the target right away. If anything make an exotic to act like this.

  • Bubble is fine. In fact, if you get real good with it, you can catch nova bombs with your bubble resulting in a sad, very salty warlock.

  • The only change I think that it really needs is a higher health for the bubble. I have seen them shot out quickly in crucible without even taking any supers or heavy weapons.

    • People who think Defender Titan needs a change are obviously bad and don't know how to use them.

Hmmm...I see your point. But I disagree. The defender is already a very powerful class. And the WOD is a pretty powerful super (in both PvE and PvP). I think it would be a bit imbalanced it they made the WOD any stronger than it is now.

    • I think the only people who can enter the ward is allies, making enemy's unable to even hurt anyone inside let alone get in I think that would be a cool touch

      • I'm not sure adjusting the strength of the bubble is the issue for Defenders in PVP. Other supers should be able to break it, and as a Defender I'm always glad to know I've been able to take up a significant portion of someone's super by drawing them in to challenging my bubble - not to mention I often run Gift for 3 extra orbs created every time the bubble is broken. Most of the ideas I've read for Ward of Dawn just sound way too powerful. - Unbreakable wards is too strong. That's why it got nerfed in the first place. - Reflecting supers is too strong - though maybe an interesting idea for an exotic. - Being able to shooting out of the ward, even if it's just the titan, is crazily strong. Challenging us on any capture-based game mode will become a genuine nightmare, even with a super. - Mobile bubble is also crazy. I can't imagine being easily stopped running wild... and you can't shoot me back unless you're in range of my shotgun. There may be ways to make the above work... but it'd take a lot of balancing and messing around. I really don't want my favourite class being butchered that way. One idea I do like is being able to collapse the bubble. Maybe something along the lines of having a 4 second period after activating the Ward where every second drains 25% of your super bar. Within that window, you can collapse the bubble and retain the remainder of your super bar - but you can't redeploy the bubble until you fill the super again. It'd give it an interesting flexibility for emergency defense - without totally crippling your ability to use the bubble strategically for another 3-4 minutes. Of course if the bubble breaks because you blocked a Fist of Havoc or Nova Bomb, then it's gone. I also like the idea of having a bubble that's opaque from the outside. Another interesting tactical application for the Ward. Maybe another one for exotic. My choice for a Defender tweak, if any, would be to adjust Armour of Light in one of a few ways: - Make AoL an intrinsic perk to Ward of Dawn, but maybe a bit weaker to compensate. I've never needed it in PVE, Blessings and Helm of Saint 14 is much better for protection, which makes it strictly a PVP perk for me. But it feels like a bit of a selfish perk as I can't really support the team with it or do anything outside the bubble. It's great for certain game modes, but it'd allow the bubble to have one extra dimension. It'd be a buff that I don't think would be too strong compared to most suggestions I've seen. I don't have a suggestion to replace the node in the tree though. - Make AoL stronger. It's still a bit too easy to challenge and given its extremely limited scope, at least allow the Defender without roaming buffs to truly be a standing fortress. It is a super after all. That's about all the thoughts I have. As a Defender main since the day I unlocked the subclass, I'd rather have it left alone than made too strong and inevitably nerfed.

      • What if the untouchable perk also made the bubble significantly more durable?

      • Buff and already great super yea-no. Only if they dig up Sunsingers from the ground. Don't get me wrong I'm not super salty and I wouldn't mind a buff to Bubble, but they should fix the subclass that the completely destroyed first. Only one subclass build works on SS.

        • You need to be able to shoot out of it. That's all I ever wanted. I'd run Defender a lot more. As it is now I don't even sit in it but duck in and out for the buffs and just use it as a wall.

        • So do you remember the trailer with the moving bubble maybe they could make it do that but it's only a shield around you that you can shoot out of and the enemy can shoot you inside it's like having a huge amount of extra armor and there would be a perk that puts a small bubble around any teammates nearby with the same perks but doesn't last as long as a normal bubble
I don't know if this makes sense I lost my train of thought midway through typing
Supers should be the one thing players can get kills with, not turn the tide of battle. Leave the buffs WoD gives to other players. Buff the effects it gives the user inside the bubble and buff the defense of the ward. And if the ward is broken the effects are gone for everyone, no-one dies if they were behind the ward regardless. This would make the ward a support class but still viable in pvp and.... OMG not upset pve.... god forbid bungie....(stares directly at bungie)

            • About bubble: Should be instant cast, no animation, and no need to hold wide open arms for 2 seconds after casting it... is the only super with NO extra shield on cast Aside that, should knock back anything on its path at cast, on a 9 feet radius (Warlock melee range) About suppresor grenade: No need to suppress its defender, with self dmg is enough. About force barrier: On hit.

              • Id like to see the bubble reflect shots back at the shooter as void damage even at say 3/4 or 1/2 damage, would be awesome for pve and even though a super could take it out in pvp it would also have the potential to take the assailant out aswell.

In the right hands this bubble is probably one of the most deadliest tools one can have. Use it smart. Btw, it used to be almost unbreakable in y1

                  • If a super can't kill a super then is it really a super? That would be completely unfair if an offensive super couldn't beat the bubble

                      • As for a ward of dawn rework all I can say is this there are little options to not make it seem so broken because either way the community is gonna start crying about it my options are this either make ward of dawn so we can shoot from the inside or make ward of dawn instant suppress people that go inside or make an exotic armor piece that do those things or change one the the perks in the defender tree to make ward of dawn more stronger me personally I find the "as ward of dawn takes damage from enemy fire it creates orbs" that perk is pretty f*cking useless so get rid of that sh*t. spike nades need to f*cking go from defender those things are useless unless you're a hunter with "nade extension perk" another that need work is force barrier which needs a huge rework like they did with the titan melee range and striker melee damage for example the "force barrier creates orbs of light from melee kills" is pretty useless unless you're killing thralls or dregs. Another thought that I had would be that each subclass needs a passive. That's pretty much it on my defender rework

                      • The only thing that needs to be reworked for Defenders is suppression grenade. There have been many times where I'll throw one at a roaming super, get a hit marker after explosion and still get destroyed by golden gun or stormtrance.

                      • The better fix would be fixing how buggy suppression grenades are. Too many times has a grenade tagged someone and either A) Not applied the effect. B) Applied the visible suppression cloud but not suppressed It is awful to get supered out but you know that they were suppressed.
