My (personal) #1 tip for doing the Raid

...or any raid for that matter; Take initiative. The biggest difference I see between a good raid group and a bad raid group is the willingness to take initiative. In a good raid group, if someone dies or for some reason cant do what needs to be done, someone else will take over or help without hesitation. In a good raid group everyone should be willing to say "I will do it". Even if you dont know what youre doing... Do it. The best way to knowing how to do something is failing at it until you get it. So dont be afraid to take initiative. Edit: Great responses. If you also have any proactive simple tips, please share. Edit: Better said by Nuggitz
Maybe instead of "I'll do it", try something more like, "I haven't done this yet, but I'll give it a shot!"
• My favorite line: "Oh crap, oh crap, I'm about to diiiee." I dislike people saying this. It usually results in a *Guardian Down* If you're about to die, there's no reason to announce it, and your best course of action, as in any raid, is to not die. A couple of times I've heard Guardians say this when talks of empowerment and/or servitor talk should be top priority. Next thing you know, someone misses their slam because the communication was misheard.

    • I would add talk less and listen more. I ran the raid for the second time Sunday. Great group of guys, it was clear they'd raided together many times. I don't think it took us an hour to get to Aksis phase 2. I missed the slam a few times resulting in wipes. I knew they had a time limit, so I told them I'd leave so they could find someone else and finish. Later that day I joined another group that had the phase 2 check point. Four of hadn't finished the raid yet. Completely different experience. Instead of having one person who knew what was going on doing call outs, they were all talking over each other, so we never got to damage stage. There's nothing wrong with being new, but if you're new, you should be talking less and listening more.

    • Totally agree. Along with that I'd add "Have fun". Its OK to wipe. Its OK to take several tries at an encounter, especially when you are first learning the raid. Its OK to ask "what exactly am I supposed to be doing here?" Somebody screws up on a boss and you have to wipe? Instead of raging at them, tease them good-naturedly. Crack some jokes. Fart into your mic. Whatever you gotta do. Because the worst thing for a raid group is tension and frustration. People stop communicating, people stop encouraging each other and pretty soon you get people dropping out without saying a word, then you are stuck looking for new players. Its a game. Have fun. Try each job of each boss. Laugh at yourself. Explore. And you might be surprised at how far you get.

I find the thing I stress the most in my groups is communication. I can't tell you how many times in Aksis Phase 2 people just don't talk so to get the point across and get people opening their mouths I say something like "don't even take a -blam!-ing step or fire a -blam!-ing shot without letting everyone else know you are doing so". This usually results in people having a bit of fun in the beginning by saying their gamertag followed by "is reloading" or "is taking a step backwards" for the very beginning part and then people start communicating. Serves as a way to kinda' lighten the mood a bit and relax everyone and also get them communicating. Feel free to try it out without groups who seem to be softspoken. Also if you don't hear a call out do as OP said and take initiative. If I'm on left (or anywhere for that matter) and only hear 2 empowerment call outs I will look at the guy I'm with and I'll call it out whether he is empowered or not and then tell him either stay put and I got cannon or whatever needs to be done so there isn't a scramble.

      • Definitely. I've raided with so many people who are scared to try some of the mechanics. Also - Stay alive - a lot easier said than done, sometimes, but I've wiped hundreds of times because of simple deaths that could've been avoided.

        • I'd rather someone admit they don't know what there doing instead of saying "I'll do it" and having absolutely no idea to what's going on.

          • And owning up to your mistakes. Trying to blame your -blam!- up on someone else is just bad form.

Once you try the job position you will never learn to be good in all aspects of the objectives. I love it when my raid group instantaneously says what side? Ill help out. Hell cant tell you how many times my raid group has said shit right is unprotected I got this. I watched as the gatelord on vog was 2 manned in utter amazement. Because they stepped up to the plate we won. Iniative is truly the key. Dont be afraid try something your completely new to. You just might be a beast at it.

            • This is very important. I'd like to add that being properly equipped in your loadout is a very overlooked aspect of success. Even if an item may be a little lower light level than your max level item, if it provides more of an advantage in a given situation, use it.

            • Don't die. When you think killing those last 2 enemies will help the team but u might die instead, just drop back and let your life rebuild. There is always plenty of time to get goals accomplished. If you die most likely it's a wipe

              • Play smart / tactical - or even cowardly. I'd rather have someone having half the kills of everyone else but not dying than someone getting most the kills and dying twice on each encounter. After I hear "Guardian down!" my initial thought after locating the ghost is usually "What are you even doing over there?!".
