When I ask this question, it will ensue a bunch of hardcore griping and crying in the comments below from the, "SHUT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING" crowd. But that's fine. This isn't a complaint, so they can sit and have their rage party.
I just genuinely want to know the answer to this: Why should we care about Y3 Thorn? What's the point of it? What's going to make ANYONE want to use it?
Deej, Devs, do you know that even with combined DOT, Y1 Thorn is not a kill after 2-hits to the head? I get it, that's the original Thorn, "Two taps to the head, DOT makes you dead." But even a 1-tap to the head, with DOT, doesn't even do enough damage to lower someones shields.
No. Really. Anyone about to call me a liar, go load a private match with a friend, use Thorn, and see for yourselves, right now. Thorns entire exotic basis was the Poison-Effect that lingered over time. Now? That DoT lasts maybe 3 pulses, and does 1 or 2 damage at a time; not enough to drop shields with a head-tap. The DoT is USELESS already.
Oh, but let's not forget, you're also adding in an Artifact that will FURTHER "Nerf" the effects of DoT from all sources, for anyone wearing it. So, what's that gonna do for Thorn? 1 pulse of 1-HP ticks off? Guess you may as well not even have Thorn deal DoT at all. It makes 0 difference.
Oh, and let's not forget that hand-cannons, even with maxed-range like Thorn has, are currently dealing with the infamous "Ghost Bullet" problem. And no, for the "PVP Experts" getting ready to weigh in with their, "It's just lag. Get over it." comments...
Nope. It's not Lag. See for yourself.
So taking that into account, let's look at yet another reason why I, and many other people I've spoken to in Parties, feel "Underwhelmed" by the return of Thorn, when all of us, myself included, WANT to feel excited for it, but just can't.
Bungie previously stated the weapon would perform the same as before, just at a higher Light level. That is not actually the case as the developer is reducing its base range by 25 percent.

Thorn hasn't even made it's "Triumphant Return," yet, and you've already added yet ANOTHER Nerf to it. It's lost its Range, which at this point was the only thing that really set it apart and made it distinguishable from other Hand-Canons, as an exotic. With all of these things in mind, you're asking us, and expecting us, to be excited over something that is LITERALLY just going to become a waste of an exotic slot.
So, WHY? What's the POINT of bringing Thorn back, when it won't even really BE "Thorn" anymore? Aside from doing the quest JUST for the sake of "collecting all the exotics," why should any of us wanna go through something like we went through in Year-1 to get Thorn, when it's NOT "Thorn" anymore?
Again, this isn't to "b*tch". This isn't to gripe, or complain. This is an effort to put Deej and the Developers in OUR shoes, and to have them see this from a players perspective, rather than a "Nerf-velopers" perspective. What makes Thorn great anymore? In fact, what even makes Thorn GOOD anymore?
What should we CARE about, in relation to this hand-canon? You're labeling it Thorn, but it isn't actually Thorn... It's a "Fake Exotic," at best.
So, one last time, Deej. Cozmo. ANY developers who might read this...
WHY... Should We... Care? I'm not being a dick. I'm not being "snarky" or "smug," or even WHINING. I really, honestly, genuinely want to know WHAT about Y3 "Thorn" is worth ANY of the players time?
-
Rename the Thorn to, Nail in the coffin, because this last Nerf has been the final nail in the coffin for the Thorn.
-
I heard Thorn got nerf again........ Friend of mine told me that Final Round got nerf on it.(I'm really hoping that's not true because that would've mean it got nerf for the FIRTH times)
-
I totally agree with you dude, all these legendary hand cannons are 1000x better than the exotic ones. Why on earth is my " exotic " not keeping up when a legendary when it should be better. BUNGIE IT NEEDS SOME KIND OF BUFF OTHERWISE THIS HAND CANNON IS USELESS.
-
DoT effectively reduces your opponents recovery to zero and gives you minor wallhacks. Nobody will use the Anti-DoT artifact when literally every other option is better.

SHUT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING
-
IMO, the pre-April update thorn was good.
-
How do you get it again?
-
As much as I agree with the post, it's not fair to put deej and cosmo in blame when they don't deal with balancing
-
Don't throw Deej under the bus for your thorn related issues. Deej is simply a puppet of bungie and just communicates information from the devs to the players and vice versa.
-
Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Thorn was on my ROI to do list till they announced the range nerf. Maybe it's gotten some type of pve buff we are unaware of. But has anyone been shot by Thorn lately? You won't need the artifact.
-
Hawkmoon and eyasluna can be a two tap.
-
I was using the thorn in PVE just for fun on patrol the old strikes playlist,it was really fun to melt the cabal and shielded enemy's....thorn is fine now but it only needs a damage buff for the DoT in PVE...in grease the DoT in PVE 100%
-
Well, it's not going to be a win button anymore. A 2 tap kill with that ROF was broken, period. So if that's all you want, then I guess you won't care anymore. It will still have better than average range and be very forgiving/punch above it's weight because it will be a 1 head 2 body unlike the others in it's RoF class that need 2 head one body. And the DoT will still stop health regen, give away position, etc. Sure there's an artifact to negate it but to do so will be a tough choice between that and say, infinite sprint or free relentless tracker/third eye.
-
Did somebody lose there crutch?
-
Sorry why would I care? All I heard was: MATADOR HOPSCOTCH PILGRIM ILL WILL WIZARD 77 and some siva stuff too
-
I would like it if it went back to the 6 round mag and really slow reload again. Keep the poison stacking and buff it to 6 stacks. Also buff the poison damage to AI by 200%-400%
-
If you aim the weapon at someone and shoot them multiple times rest assured they will fall
-
Agreed !!!
-
WHINER!! Jk, I agree wholeheartedly. Y1 thorn wasn't that great (or I just sucked with it) Y2 thorn was kinda trash. And now Y3 thorn sounds like it's going to be as effective as throwing a lukewarm potato at an enemy in the crucible.
-
If only I had the words to say for how much I agree with you. I... I love you.. Honestly hope that they read this post about Thorn.

Edited by ThreeDog: 9/19/2016 10:41:45 PMHey i do have a compliant!! Lol. U said u wanted to ask just ONE question !! Lol. I stop counting at 12. Lol. Hope u get your questionssss answered ..

That's for you to find out. Their job isn't to pick your guns for you.

Fully agree, when I first read it was coming back I thought, Great I loved that gun great for all purposes. Then I thought how will it perform though with the horrible Nerf it had before, but was still in an upbeat mood about it. Then the news came of its further Nerf 😬 Now I probably won't even bother with the quest, thanks bumgie.

It isn't supposed to be decent. Or useful. Or balanced. You aren't supposed to get excited to use it. Or do the quest for it. You're supposed to get excited that they're nerfing it again. The entire purpose here in bringing it back, is to nerf it again. It's like Billy Mays doing a commercial. "But wait, there's more, we're going to bring back Thorn just so we can nerf it again!" It's a desperate grab at trying to bring back PvPrs by waving about that the most hated gun ever is getting yet another nerf.
