Into the Hellmouth, Part 51: Tell Them

Hello, everybody, here's Part 51 of Into the Hellmouth!! As usual, if you like it, give it a bump, and I'll get more out soon! Here's part 50 if you missed it, or, if you're looking for a different part, here's the Master Post! Stay classy, Guardians! “Raaaaaaah!!!” Eriana’s cry resonated through the chamber as she unleashed another blast from her fusion rifle upon the Hivespawn. Three thrall were immediately vaporized in a cloud of solar energy. Then, she grabbed a nearby acolyte, and unleashed her light upon it. The acolyte disintegrated into ashes, which fell to her feet. Then, she grabbed her auto rifle, and began to spray the crowd of Hive. Sai’s hand cannon fired, and a knight went to the ground, a steaming hole where it’s third eye should have been. Eriana grimaced. Their plight was grim. The two Guardians were low on ammo, and Eriana’s ghost was too weak to synthesize anymore. “How you doing?” Sai asked, her voice barely audible over the clamor of the Hive. “Not good,” the warlock replied. She loaded another clip into her rifle. “Not good at all.” She proceeded to burst-fire the auto rifle in order to conserve ammo. Sai grimaced. “We’re not making it out of here,” she said. “I know,” Eriana said as her magazine clicked empty. “But we at least we can take a bunch of these bastards down with us!” “You don’t understand,” Sai said. “We’re not going to make it out of here - but one of us might.” Eriana turned towards Sai, confused. “Excuse me?” she said. Sai fired off another several rounds from her hand cannon. “You need to go back,” she said. “We won’t be the last to come down here, Eriana. Not unless someone who’s been here tells them not to.” She fired again. Eriana swore, and resumed firing. “Dammit Sai!” she said. “I’m not leaving you here!” “Why not!” Sai retorted. “I’m dead either way. At least this way, we can do some good.” Eriana gritted her teeth. “Sai -“ she began. “I saw Sylvia today.” Eriana was confused for a moment, before she realized to whom Sai was referring. “Oh, Sai, I’m sorry,” she said. Sylvia had been one of Sai’s closest friends - the exo even suspected that they might have been romantic. Of course, Sylvia had died on Luna. “When did you find the body?” “I spoke to her.” Eriana frowned. “Sai, Sylvia’s dead.” “I know,” the hunter replied. “But she still talked to me.” Eriana gulped. Has she gone mad? she wondered. “You don’t believe me,” Sai said, “but it’s true.” She carefully reloaded her cannon, and then continued to fire. “After the fight with Sardon - when I was unconscious - I saw her. And she talked to me.” Eriana took a deep breath. “You were dreaming, Sai,” she said. “Sylvia’s dead.” Sai chuckled. “What did Toland say?” she asked. “‘We all died once, and it did not prove insurmountable.’” Eriana grimaced. “Toland was mad,” she said. “But he was right,” came the reply. “When I saw Sylvia, she told me that she was dragging me down - that I had to let her go. And eventually, I did. And then when I woke up, I could see again.” “So?” Sai sighed. “Don’t you see?” she said. “The weight of our friends dragged us down into this pit - now we have to make sure that no one else gets dragged down here because of us.” She looked back towards Eriana. “You have to warn them, Eriana,” she said. “They’ll listen to you - don’t let me keep you down here.” Eriana was silent. Even if she didn’t want to admit it, Sai was right. More would come. More would fall. And with every Guardian that fell into the pit, Crota’s power would wax until he was once again able to invade Earth. And then maybe there would be no one left to stop him. Sai looked over at her. “Go on,” she said, “I’ll hold them off as long as I can.” Eriana sighed, and then nodded. She clasped Sai’s hand. “Promise me one thing, Sai,” she said. Sai frowned. “What?” Eriana met her gaze. “If you have the opportunity to make it out of here alive, take it,” she said. “Fight the hive if you must, but please. Don’t resign yourself to death.” Sai nodded. “I promise.” Eriana nodded. “Then Traveler’s Light, Sai Mota,” she said. “Traveler’s light.” And with that, she ran off into the caves. Sai turned towards the mob of hive, and grimaced. “Alright,” she said, “bring it on.” The army of Hive screeched, and ran at her. Slowly, Sai holstered her hand cannon. “For the Traveler,” she whispered. The Hive drew closer. “For the Light.” The screams intensified. “For my companions!” They were now almost upon her. “FOR MY FRIENDS!” And with that, she drew the knives from her belt, and felt the arc energy course through her body, and lightning danced on her skin. Her blades humming with the charge, she leapt into the Hive. Her blades cut through their ranks like a water, as she flowed through the ranks of thrall and acolytes. Every blow she landed turned the Hive into a column of smoking ash. And as she danced, she felt her body hum, as though it were an instrument in a song. Suddenly, she heard a loud roar from behind her. She turned around, and saw an ogre advancing on her. The massive beast was even crushing the Hive that couldn’t move out of the way in time. Sai grimaced. “Well then,” she said. “I suppose I’ll just have to kill you too.” And with that, she did the last thing that the ogre expected. She charged it. The ogre swept at her with it’s massive hands, scattering Hive to and fro. However, Sai dodged the blows, and grabbed onto it’s haunches, and began to climb it’s back. The ogre reached behind it, roaring with frustration as it tried to pluck her off, but Sai evaded it’s clutches, and soon reached it’s head. Grimacing, she took out her cannon, and placed the muzzle directly on it’s skin. Then, she emptied the magazine into it’s fleshy hide. The ogre let out one last defiant roar, which gradually trailed off into a whimper. Then, it fell to the ground, crushing a good portion of the Hive beneath it. Sai nodded, and stood up, rolling off of the giant corpse. Then, she looked around her. Everywhere she looked, she saw green eyes, peering out of the darkness. And no matter which way she turned her head, she heard the screams of the Hive. She was surrounded. She ejected the empty magazine from her hand cannon, and reached for another from her suit, only to find none. Sai blinked. She was out of ammo. Then, she sighed, and threw down her cannon. Then, she drew her knives, which immediately sparked with blue light. Same as before, she could feel her body humming with the tune. But now, however. . . she could hear it. Playing in the back of her head. Sai shook her head, and took a deep breath. “Alright, you bastards!” she shouted. “Bring it on!” The Hive screamed in unison, and Sai replied in kind. “RAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!” And then, they charged at her, firing their boomers and shredders. And Sai Mota met them in kind. Edit: Part 52
