What Ever Happened To...?

Hi there! This might be a common or a one off thing, depending on several factors. Anyway, with "What Ever Happened To", I aim to look at games, specifically sequels that either were in the works or rumoured to be started upon very soon, and what happened to them, be it abandonment, legal situations, financial trouble, that sorta thing. No, I probably won't do one on Red Dead 3 (Or RDR 2), because it's still a strong rumour. Anyway, lets take a look at a very successful game, and it's disturbing lack of sequel. Announced in 2013, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor looked very promising, and was said to be a "cross between Assassin's Creed and Rocksteady's Arkham Series", with a brand new feature in gaming; The Nemesis System. Shadow of Mordor (Or SoM for short) was released in 2014, and was received quite well. It had epic combat gameplay, a decent story and an awesome Nemesis System, and was awarded Game of The Year. Shadow of Mordor had 3 major, widely available Expansions released, with many more smaller add-ons available. SoM's DLC release consisted of: "Trials of War", "Lord of the Hunt" and "The Bright Lord". Each was a decent addition to the game and only made it better. People wanted a sequel, so what happened? WB Games had never confirmed a Shadow of Mordor sequel, yet story elements and Lore left much more to be solved, so it was only natural to assume another addition to an already fantastic game. A year passed and no word on a sequel, and very few leaks. There was one, though, and it was an Actresses Résumé that sparked a light in the interest of avid fans. The actress had allegedly worked on a Motion Capture for a "Shadow of Mordor 2". This made many a fan excited, but with no word from WB, no leaks or teases either, any hope was all but vanquished. E3 of 2016 was quickly approaching, and the rumours started swirling again. WB would have a presence at the show, with rumours of a sequel to one of their IP's in the works, which they would show. Games Media was very excited, die hard fans were pumped, but what WB revealed was not what we were expecting. It was a good surprise, Injustice 2, but it wasn't what many had hoped for. So Games Conventions were being analysed to see if a SoM2 reveal would take place. Gamescom in Germany was the next stop for a game reveal, but alas, a reveal was not to be. That leaves us here, nearly 2 Years after the original games release, and we are in the dark on whether a sequel will happen or not. It can only be wished and hoped for, but as time goes on, it starts to seem as though Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was a gem that could not be repeated, and that we could treasure it as being the piece of brilliance it was. Now it's up to you. What do you think happened to Shadow of Mordor's sequel? Stay tuned for another post of "What Ever Happened To", in which I will cover a very low key project, that looked extremely promising.
